Wedding gift amount

Under normal circumstances I would have ordered a gift (I have a go-to gift that runs about $40-50, but appears much more expensive, but takes about 2 weeks to arrive....custom item).

Would you mind sharing what your go-to gift is? I need to buy a wedding gift and would love something like this!!

I have gifted this item multiple times. Each person I have given it to has it hanging in their home, and I have even had two couples ask where to get this so that they can gift it to their friends. If you hunt around Etsy you can find them pre-framed for about $50, if not I have ordered & bought a frame at Michael's with a coupon & it still turned out beautiful.

LOVE that! Wish I had seen that this morning .... I just ordered an Etsy gift to put with a gift card. That is a great gift and being custom seems very expensive.

I should have invited you to my wedding back in December :duck:

if there's so much drama then DH should have declined the invite even if he lied as to why you couldn't attend to spare the co-worker's feelings.

now that you've said you're going i would go but make an attitude adjustment first!

my rule of thumb is $50 per person.

if you can't afford what you usually give at the moment then give what you can.

if you feel you can go to macy's and find something NICE and PRACTICAL and stay on budget of $50 or less then go for it but if not cash is always nice and practical no matter the amount.

OP you are doing the right thing. I too have generally found that the trend of bringing a gift to the wedding is passing and that people are back to sending gifts again.

However, it is my understanding that if you receive a wedding invitation you are obligated to send a gift whether or not you attend...? I wouldn't mind if that rule changed lol!

OP - I love your "go to" gift. Definitely get that and let them know that it is coming.

Whether your DH should have accepted the invitation is a moot point now. I hope you end up enjoying the wedding!

All is well. We had a nice time at the wedding, which I knew would happen. They had a live band, which was amazing. Food was decent, and an open bar never hurts :rolleyes2

In regards to the gift, I wrote a note in our card & will be ordering their gift to ship later today. There were two large boxed gifts on the gift table & then a card box, so I just slipped our card in with the rest.

Thanks so much for all the help!

Glad to hear it! I don't believe in the 'cover your plate' idea you mentioned in the OP. There's really no reason you should give more to friends who have a more expensive wedding. Plus, we are paying for the reception for our DD, so giving her & her fiancee a gift amount to cover the cost is not relevant, as they are not paying for it.

I love your go-to gift!
I've been to a few weddings. Mostly my sorority sisters. A few happened while I was still in college. If they were having a $60 a person dinner, can they really expect their college friends to afford that much of a gift?

I ended up buying a few things off their registry, but spend no more than $20.
