Just wondering what you consider the best resource online to track emerging weather patterns? We are heading down Sept 18 and I would like to keep an eye on things just in case.
Click on "tropical" and then chose which active storm you would like to track. It has the public advisories, meteorologist discussion, predicted tracks, and the computer models.
we use weatherunderground here too. It's the most realiable online weather I've seen. I used to work for a radio station doing morning news and I wish I had know about it THEN!
weather.com has tropical updates. Type in Orlando for the local forecast.
Also, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association has a website that tracks hurricanes, but I don't know the name of it - NOAA.gov maybe? Google it to make sure.
Just keep in mind tho that NONE of these longer range forecasts may even be close to "accurate". One look at Katrina indicates that predicting hurricane paths is a long, long way from being an exact science--if it ever can be an exact science. Even what you see one evening can be completely wrong the next morning.
It's pretty heavy stuff, not always an amateur area, but it keeps me more abreast of tropical weather than the Weather channel or weatherunderground does.
If you're worried about hurricanes, though, you won't know even close to sure until it's within 1-2 days of landfall, and even then it's pretty unsure. Last year Charlie turned sharply at the last minute, as I was rushing the heck out of Gainesville, and I ended up driving right into it.
