Hard time deciding when to purchase

So my husband said he kinda likes the idea of going to VDH in June 2027 instead of waiting until June 2028. That would mean we need the points by July 2026 to book. We were thinking we could just buy in person in June, like I mentioned earlier, since we don't really need the extra points we'd get by purchasing before June (our UY is June.)

But...does that seem stupid to purchase in June when we could purchase in May and essentially get an entire year of points for likely the same price? I mean, if we don't want them, we would just rent them and get around $2800 or something.

So if waiting to purchase in June basically like throwing $2800 away?

100% buy in may and do MB

The thing is, even doing MB on 2025, we don't need all those 2026 points. So fDo I just rent what we don't want?

I'd do MB on 2025 points, use 2026 points and bank whatever is left forward. Like a savings fund for a 2 bedroom or extra days or use towards an annual pass. I'm loathe to rent out points as I don't want the tax hassle.

Well, we will only be going to VDH every other use year. So anything we would end up with left in 2027 points that would end up needing to be rented out.

Best to get as much when you can, if you can. Sell them the 2025. Hold the 2026 (use in 2026 UY or not), banking 2026 points when start booking 2027. Bank any left over 2026 by end of 8th month.

Use all the banked 2026 in 2027 UY. Then bank all or what’s left of 2027 into 2028 in same way. Will get to a point will use some each year or do a giant point pull every two years.

Not paying anything on those 2025’s. $0. Free Gift Bonus. (Use extra VDH points at Aulani, use them at Hilton Head, or Vero, or any spot at WDW.)

We will likely be going to VDH for a week in June 2027 and then in June 2029. It's 306 points.

So I guess it would look like this....

2025 - MB
2026 - Bank all to 2027
2027 - 160 + 160 = 320 - 306 (1 week in June) = 14 leftover

And then I suppose it would basically look like that every other year, at least for a while.

Our VGC points would look like this....
2026 - after our June trip, we have 77 points leftover that would go unused.
2027 - bank all points into 2028
2028 - 160 + 160 = 320 - 291 (1 week in June) = 29 leftover

Does that seem accurate? I always wonder if I'm doing the math wrong. Ha!

If we waited and did MB on 2026 instead...the VDH stuff would look like this....
2026 - MB
2027 - Use all 160 and borrow 146 = 306
2028 - 160 - 146 = 14
2029 - 14 + 160 = 174. Borrow 132 = 306

With this method, we would be using a bank, current, and borrow strategy that would put less to 'waste' over the years than the bank an entire year strategy above. At least, I think it seems that way.

@ClaraOswald point mapping, charting, grids, shuffling, planning, is both sure exciting & frustrating at the same time. (All that looks pretty good to me).

However when you analyze your points use, never want to show any “waste”. All used someplace by you. No point left behind motto.

You will start with an advantage on those 2025 points. Will give you more points to play with taking MB on those instead of the 2026 points. (Especially if no 2026 UY plans with them).

Only paying the increase of an extra one month of prorated 2026 dues amount, for all those 2025 points!

If you have no wish to upgrade your room choice for the trips, then getting the 2025 points to do MB, then using a different year's points to buy two annual passes to WDW might be a way to do it. That would cost the $100 for MMB, but hey, it's free tickets to WDW for when you stay there.

Yeah, that's why when I started talking about maybe buying this June...I caught myself and thought...wait, shouldn't I do it in May, instead?

The best way would probably be to wait until May 2027. And wait and take our first VDH trip in June 2028. So then our trip this summer and our trip next summer would both be VGC.

However, I think my husband and I are both getting a bit more antsy and wanting to try out VDH which is why we are now strongly considering a 2027 trip there instead of VGC.

I don't think it's enough excess of points to upgrade the room type though. At least not if we want to to stay at VDH every other year. Unless I'm doing the math wrong. And at VDH and VGC, a 2-bedroom is really too much for us. However, I would like one at BRV, just to get us a 2nd proper bathroom. So I could push some of the excess points each year over to our yearly WDW trip.

I didn't know you could use points to buy an AP at WDW. How does that work and what's the cost exactly? Does that even make sense if we would only be going to the parks for 6 days?

Pushing the points over to use at BRV would be a nice treat for your family! That would have to be at the 7 month window however.

For the AP, you have to buy the Member Magic Beyond (available for direct owners) and it's 75 points for a new annual pass. If you are going to WDW every year and can do two trips within a 12 month period, that would save you money on tickets. Like do one trip February 15-21 and the next year do February 7-14 (or whatever). Using the points on annual passes might be easier than renting out the points. The MMB does cost $100ish, but you also get a photo pass benefit for 30 days at WDW and other things.

This exactly!! Don’t wait until June. Free Stuff Good! Not Bad! No need to purchase in person unless some on site added discount.

If pass on buying this year..yes wait until at least January 2027-May 2027 to get the free year points! (Place won’t sell out by then). 😃

Just buy it before your uy, do magical beginnings and get better rooms if you have leftover or sell some and have more spending money for your trips. My advice is always buy, its better for you. Lol!

Thanks. I'll have to look into that and run the numbers. I have a feeling buying hoppers with cash and renting out excess points might be the better deal though. Not sure.
