Is mid-August as bad as July 4th week?

I remember the sweltering afternoon heat in July...
is mid-August as bad? Anyone who's been there
in mid-Aug...I'd appreciate some feedback!

How did all of you plan your days around this?

Thanks...aDVCguy

Yes, the heat is the same if not a little worse, generally in the mid-90s in the day, high humidity, and not any real relief at night as it goes down to high 70s to low 80s even at the "coolest" part of the night -- you can sweat standing still outside at midnight. Usually two to three thunderstorms in the afternoon to evening that last about 30 minutes each. It is also the heart of the hurricane season and thus you risk one of those -- not every year but one can result in an all day rain although by the time they reach Orlando they usually have lost their high winds.

Crowds are better. Time around July 4 is most crowded part of summer. Large crowds through about mid-August and then better (crowded but manageable) for last two weeks of August.

As far as planning, it is just a matter of choice. Early mornings are good. Afternoons are very hot but you do spend a lot of your time inside in the air conditioning. Pools are generally very crowded in the late morning to late afternoon.

Agree with drusba...you won't see much difference in Florida heat at any time during the summer in our experience. How to plan for it?

A lot of people get up early and hit the parks using EMH. Double benefit of lower lines and cooler time of the day.

We tend to sleep in, use fast passes and generally are able to do everything we want during a typical one week stay. We also make judicious use of the various air conditioned areas and attractions throughout the parks.

We're used to it and find it to be no big deal. If you've been in July, it will be similar and you can plan accordingly. Enjoy!

If anything, the weather in August (and especially in September) may be a little worse than early July.

It may also be, however, that it's just my impression from living here. In June and July, it's just hot; by August and September, 4-5 months of the heat and humidity really starts wearing you down.

But if your question is whether it starts to cool off a bit...NO. That doesn't happen until October-November usually. Through September, you can expect heat, high humidity, and daily thunderstorms.

Our strategy for summer visits is hit the parks early and late, go back to the resort for pool/nap time in the middle of the day, and focus on indoor attractions or meals during thunderstorms.

We also start sipping water on the way to the parks and never stop sipping all day. Hydration is very important in high heat and humidity. The summer heat here is not like the heat up north, and heat illness is nothing to play with.

Another caution is to wear hats and use sunblock liberally and often. The sun is hotter here than you have up north. For example, the UV index in WDW today is 11 out of 16, so you can get a bad burn in a very short period of time.

;)
Thanks for the input everyone...evidently there's not
much difference between my July stay in '04 and what
I'm to expect in this August.

Either way, I'll still be "Hang'in with the Mouse!"
