hi we are staying at the portofino form Janurary 4th till 10th..i was just wondering if the NYE and xmas crowds will have left by this time and how busy the parks will be (...we also will go to disney for some days perhabs anyone knows how the crowds will be there). And furthermore what will the weather in january be like.....

thanx a lot

crowds should be a LOT better. I remember going in mid-January and the longest line was maybe 15 minutes...? The weather is still cool enough to not be dreadful. Rain chance is MUCH less during January (since heat is usually one of the factors of Florida's infamous popup thunderstorms) so weather is no problemo!

January is my favorite time to go, but don't expect to go on Popeyes or Dudley-Doright's!! ;)

As for Disney crowds, well, I haven't been in a while, however I can say crowds at Disney are going down in general (I think we all know why...same reason Disney is making movies for their rides...hehehe!!!). So I doubt Disney should be a problem either, however I know about US/IOA for a fact.

thanks a lot for your fast reply, i'm sure now that i made the right choice conserning the time of our visit.
Since you are living in FL could i ask you another question....after our stay in orlando we are going to miami for a week hoping to get a tan...to you think the weather in miami is a lot warmer then in orlando and sunbathing on the beach is possible?

thanx a lot

Well it doesn't get much hotter than Orlando during January but the daily low doesn't get as low. So the average in Miami is actually warmer by about 7 degrees I believe.

So if you think you can handle it, give it a shot...lol. At least, that's my thoughts, it's hard for me to say because I burn easily...in fact I got a sunburn when I was visiting family up in Chicago!!

My uncle created a fake news story that read "Floridian gets sunburn in Chicago - wearing long pants!"

January weather is very hard to predict. It can be quite pleasant or it can dip into the 20s at night.

But aren't the 20s quite RARE?! I haven't witnessed it being that cold quite often...and I've lived here all my life!

I mean, basing off the information weather.com has gathered, temperatures in the 20s are records. Average low is around 50...

20s are quite rare. 40s is about right. High of 58, low of 40 is a common day in Jan. And the crowds should be thinned out when you go oelpa. Though last year the crowds stayed longer than expected...

Whoa whoa whoa!!! weather.com says average high is low 70s and average low is the upper 50s. Are they messed up then?

Anyway, the crowds stayed longer? So in January it was "busy"? Because when I went in early January it wasn't busy at all! I know it was before January 19 for sure...hmm...guess I'll have to check it out again.

well, thanxs a lot for all your replies.....well the weather at least seems to be better then where i come from at this time of the year (Vienna...Snow and ice in January) so we should be ok :-)
I don't mind if the parks are not empty i just want to avoid the masses from NYE and xmas........last year we were at the studios the second week of december and the crowds have been perfect.........

so thanx again

Our experience of Orlando in January is that it can be variable from day to day. I would go expecting it to not get much warmer than 70 but possibly getting as cold as 50 (during the day). So we bring enough clothes for a change in the seasons!!!

Just a January weather warning:

We were at USF/IOA in mid-January this year for a long weekend.
Now I admit that this was a freaky weather weekend but our HIGH was around 34 degrees for two days! It was FREEZING.
Will this be your weather? Probably not but be sure to pack lots of layers so you can layer up or down as the temperature dictates. The good news was that there were NO lines. We decided to take advantage of special January Annual Passholder benefits that were in effect like being able to have three express passes going at one time. We never even needed one. The rides were basically walk-on the whole weekend. Would I go in January again? Absolutely. We practically had the parks to ourselves! Just be ready to bundle up if need be; and don't expect to go swimming. You might get lucky in that department but probably not.

Have fun!

Can I expect the same temperatures in February or does it start getting a bit warmer?

I will be in Florida from 8th Feb for 2 weeks and hoping it will be nice and warm - well better than the cold winter in England!
