**Wearing PJ's in the theme parks**

In regards to the topic of wearing pj's in public ...

PJs have been popular in Shanghai since the late 1970s, when Deng Xiaoping, then China’s leader, sought to modernize the economy and society by “opening up” to the outside world. The Chinese adopted Western pajamas without fully understanding their context. Most of us had never had any dedicated sleepwear other than old T-shirts and pants. And we thought pajamas were a symbol of wealth and coolness.

Shanghainese began wearing them to bed — but kept them on to walk around the neighborhood, mainly out of convenience. At that time in Shanghai, people lived in crammed, communal-style quarters in shikumen — low-rise townhouses in which families shared toilets and kitchens. Through the 1980s and ’90s, the average person had less than 10 square meters of living area. To change out of one’s pajamas just to walk across the road to the market would be too troublesome and unnecessary.

Besides, as a retiree told a news reporter: “Pajamas are also a type of clothes. It’s comfortable, and it’s no big deal since everyone wears them outside.”

Mr. and Mrs. Wang, who lived on the street where I grew up in Shanghai, used to stroll after dinner in their pajamas — nice matching costumes for a loving couple, now that I think about it. Then Mr. Wang would go out to buy cigarettes. In the mornings, Mrs. Wang, still in her pajamas, would dash to a street stall to pick up sheng jian (fried buns) for breakfast.

My own family, a little particular about clothing and slow with fashion, happened not to be part of the pajama troupe.

(The above is an excerpt from Gao Yubing's article in The New York Times.)

As you can read, this is not such a new trend afterall ...

I say, to each their own. If it is not hurting anyone, what's the problem? We can't be the ethics police for everyone (Yourself and your children. Yes.) Would I wear pajamas in public? No. But, that's me. Sometimes, you just need to worry about yourself. :flower3:

:goodvibes Jennifer

Agreed, we should worry about ourselves, lol.

I plainly stated that I did not mean to pick on you. Many posts in this thread have the same tone as your post. But your post happened to be the most recent in the thread at the time. I was trying to stay on topic.

By the way, I did not judge *you* by your grammar and composition. I merely pointed out that if I were to judge *posters* by their composition skills, it wouldn't really be any different than judging someone based upon their attire. Many posters rant and rave that judging a person by the composition of his or her internet postings is wrong, wrong, wrong. Yet judging people by their choice to wear pajama bottoms to the supermarket is fine?

My intent was to give some perspective: how would "y'all" feel if someone judged you by ... ? I'm sorry that my post was perceived as some personal attack.

Y'all...are you a former Pittsburgher? Everyone always ask me if I am from/around Pittsburgh because I use, "y'all," and "yins."

Hon, can you get my bag, I am ready to go sit on the dirty seats that everyone walks on over at the PoC in the MK... oh, get the bag with all the pockets so I can take in my water bottles and snacks.. have no money left for them since I purchased this outfit especially to go to a theme park...You don't think my hat is too much, after all, I do so want to block the sun but doing so with style and class.

Let me just offend the majority of you by saying I think it can be very cute and imhop "smacks" of comfort. It's a trend for young girls and I think many apparel companies have caught on to it and are making lounging bottoms that actually can be indoor and outdoor wear. I bought my 12 year old dd's the cutest mickey micro fleece lounge bottoms specifically to wear in the parks during December last year. They got tons of compliments and none of the judgemental looks I would expect from some of the folks in this thread. They wore them with uggs and long sleeve shirts. They were warm and comfortable during those really cold days we spent in the parks. They did not sleep in them, or roll out of the bed and go out in them, so laziness was not a factor.:wizard: Young folks do a lot of things that us older folks can't understand. I can't stand much of the music or television shows right now. Guess it means I'm part of a different generation. My mom couldn't stand much of my music or fashion when I was younger.:wizard:

How do you multi-quote like that? lol

It's a nifty little trick!

Right next to the "Quote" button, there is another button with quotation marks. That is the one you use to multi quote.

When you see a response you want to multi quote, hit that button. You will see it turn red. Hit the same button on any other responses you want to multi quote.

Once you get to the last message you want to quote, go ahead and hit the regular "Quote" button. The reply window will then pop up with all of the messages you had selected to multi quote. Add your comments and post your reply. Easy peasy!

If there were ever an appropriate place to wear some cozy pj bottoms with a sweatshirt, I would think that a chilly morning at an EMH park would the be it!

For me, park touring is all about COMFORT!! As longs as all the "naughty bits" are covered, who cares?? :confused3

Although personally, if I were to choose that outfit, it wouldn't be one that I slept in and I would definitely have showered (I can't do ANYTHING without my morning shower!) and fixed my hair...but if I didn't have a TS breakfast planned and was just going to hit some rides before going back to the resort to change for lunch, I would have no problem hitting the parks in some comfy PJ/Lounge pants!

It's funny...either I've been extremely LUCKY or maybe it's just the way I was brought up, but I've never been offended by anything I've seen anyone wearing at WDW. Of course, I've seen plenty of stuff that I myself wouldn't be caught in!!!! :scared1: But, to each his own.

I see this at my job quite often and I think pure lazy!! Now I love my pjs and have some really cute pants. If my husband has the guys over for cards, they may be allowed to see me in them. But only the friends I have know for our entire marriage. Otherwise they are not for wearing in public. As far as the parks are concerned I really don't take notice of the comfort level some guests choose. I enjoy my vacation and don't get too excited about others. I see it as pure lazyiness but I see the clothing that reveals the underwear as silly.

Wow, hard to believe I'm in the minority on this one. :confused3

It saddens me that so many in this country have taken the attitude that I can do what ever I want and if you don't like, it too bad. What ever happened to class and manners? I believe it is rude an in bad taste for grown women to be out in public in the clothes they wore to bed. Posters have said that it has become "acceptable" to wear pajamas in public. Just because some are doing it doesn't mean it is "acceptable." It is not. Too many people think that it is ok to go through life doing what ever they please as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. It is not. It is tacky and boorish. Please put your clothes on before going out. I can't believe that people have to be told this. :headache:

no one ever stated they were worn to bed :confused3, in fact, some here have stated they put them on PRIOR to going to the parks.. after showering. How is that lazy? Wearing lounge pants to the parks (no I do not do it) is not showing a lack of manners or class. It is a theme park & you go for comfort. If the lounge pants are clean & your privates are covered, that is not showing poor taste.. What is in poor taste, a lack of class as well as showing poor manners is judging others by what they wear, especially when you do not even know them.

Here is a perfect acceptable pair of PJ's/lounge wear that can be worn on a chilly day...You cannot tell me that this shows bad manners, lack of class, or laziness... this is a cute outfit (again, no I would not wear it because of the lack of pockets on the pants)

Too many people think that it is ok to go through life doing what ever they please as long as they aren't hurting anyone else.

Possibly because it is?

At any rate, I'm going to wear what I want. It isn't anyone's business but my own. I'm going to be comfortable and happy.

If you choose to get in a snit over it, that's your business.

But let's recap the score here: I'm comfortable and happy and you're in a snit.

I don't think I'm the one who needs to be told.

and here is another..

Some of the lounge pants remind me of the funky bell bottoms I wore in the 60's & 70's... just a different material, but the patterns are alike.

I am wondering if some of you who have not seen the PJ's/lounge wear are thinking real PJ looking types... :confused3

hmmmm.....that makes even less sense....get up, shower and put pjs on to go to the park. I am all about comfort in the park, but there are clothes that are comfortable and appropriate. Sorry, but it is rude to wear clothes intended to be worn in private in public.

If all that matters is covering your privates, maybe this year I'll wear pasties and a thong! ;)

Pj bottoms at church? Isn't that the least of the places where you should be judged by others? I know if I was elderly, and had a difficult time getting myself dressed, and sweatpants were the only thing I could get into, or had accessible, I'd be at church in those.

I agree. I've seen people dress a lot of different ways in church. I have never seen PJ bottoms. But, you never know other people's circumstances, so we shouldn't judge. Maybe she didn't have anything else to wear, or maybe it was the most appropriate thing she had for church but at least she was there, or maybe she had a recent procedure that made the pj bottoms the most comfortable for her, or maybe she just wanted to wear them. Either way, while I wouldn't personally wear them out in public, to each their own. Who are we to judge what others wear, espeicially if it's modest?

Just because your are being tacky doesn't mean I am in a "snit." :thumbsup2

I have to ask this of those who think it shows a lack of class to wear lounge pants/sweat pants into the parks.. do you wear complete make up on your face & hair done to the hilt with a ton of hairspray too? Only to have it melt off your face & your hair turn flat & sticky?

LOL, and I'm lounging around in Figment right now as I catch up on the latest drama!
