**Wearing PJ's in the theme parks**

Ummm...Calling people tacky and lazy certainly is suggesting something about their personality. Suggesting that people who might wear sweat pants to the grocery store don't have pride in their appearing is reaching.

Your first post reeks of classism. I know many people who would love to drop $125 on a pair of shoes for themselves but simply can't.

I am disheartened by all the judgement being passed here. Wow.

Honestly, I don't think people are being judgemental here. I think when most people see older teenage girls and women wearing pj's to a theme park, department store etc., does scream laziness. Now, in my opinion if you are going to the laundry mat or running a quick errand who cares, but when you go out in public like that with your pj bottoms on it does say "I dont' care what I look like."I wouldn't want to see men in their boxer short pjs and t shirt on either, it's just not the norm. This has nothing to do with classism, I see all types of teenagers with this type of attire on. Also, you can buy shorts and a t shirt at walmart for under $15.00 - $20.00, the same amount if not less then those pjs. Regarding the poster above that suggests that people can buy a more expensive pair of shoes, pants etc which would last longer than the cheaper counter parts, is a great tip. Yes, maybe some people can't do this but he is only suggesting this. I don't think he was trying to separate people in various "classes":confused3. I thought his suggestion was a good one because you can save money in the long run. Someone on here mentioned that sweats aren't figure flattering, yes I agree the old time sweats are not, my mistake for my interpretation. But they do have some really cute yoga pants (mentioned by a poster above) and really cute capri like sweat pants that are more figure flattering and more fashionable. As a matter of fact Target , Walmart and JC Penny carry those under athletic wear for under $20.00.

With that said, I believe most people would like to look their best when going out for hours at a time in crowded places where the public is, no matter if it's a department store, Disney Park, restaurant etc. See you at the parks!

I understand that appearance doesn't make the person, that its what inside that counts..But really ..If people think it doesn't matter to the world around them they are kidding themselves..There are WHOLE studies done about how people that are dressed or look a certain way get better treatment, higher salaries, better jobs..IS it right or fair, no.But reality is APPEARANCE does matter.I see serious difference in how I am treated by others if I don't have makeup on and am schlepping around in my sweatpants VS I am dressed in nice clothes and have makeup on.I am still me, but people don't see whats inside, ,most get a 60 second snapshot if that and base a person on their looks. If people say they have never looked at a person and formed an opinion on that person they aren't being honest

Your post is full of judgment. You said, "I think when most people see older teenage girls and women wearing pj's to a theme park, department store etc., does scream laziness." You are judging the people wearing pjs to be lazy. The fact that others share your opinion does not change the fact that you are being judgmental. I don't mean to pick on you, either. This thread contains many similar posts.

For all of those who think that wearing pajama pants in public says that the wearer is lazy or has no pride in personal appearance, do you like to be judged by the quality of the composition and grammar of your posts? Would you feel irked and call me judgmental if I posted that I thought sloppily drafted posts "scream" that the poster is lazy or inferior in some other way?

Humans are judgmental. It's a primal instinct. We should at least be honest when we're doing it and ask ourselves if that judgment is really warranted or helpful.

I was in line behind a lady in Wal-Mart the other day that was wearing a hospital gown. I sure wish she'd had on PJs...

:lmao::lmao::lmao: your post made me think of that Wal-Mart email that goes around.. seems they are the "best dressed" :lmao::lmao::lmao: with their body parts hanging out.. and yes, I am being critical here. While I don't care what a person wears, I don't care to see their body parts displayed.

.

It is not right or fair as you have stated, but can you figure out why this happens? It is because of the attitude that people have about looks. If the attitudes that the better dressed (and thin) person is "better" and "smarter" are forgotten, then things will change. Just because that is how people are, doesn't make it right.. and you yourself have said that.. it isn't right or fair.
Yes, I do admit I don't appreciate seeing one's private areas hanging out in public, call me judgmental for that, but I could care less if a person is thin/heavy... or it sweats or a formal gown.

nope - I have wore PJ pants to run errands - but I sleep nude ;)

Ok..TMI....TMI!!! :lmao: I was more thinking do people actually get up in the morning and put on the PJ pants to go out - then change into something different for bed. Like they have "outdoor PJ's" and indoor PJ's or something. You know - a closet with the dressy Pj's on one side and the bed Pj's on the other.....

Most of the teens/twentysomethings I know do have two different sets of "PJ" pants for outside and inside. Personally, I don't have a problem with it for anything that could be considered a casual outing---and vacations are included!

I'd much rather complain about women who wear UNDER wear as outerwear! :lmao: I long for the days when an exposed bra strap was a faux pas. :hippie:

I used to do that in HS but ONLY on PJ day. Or i only wear them to the store if i am like super sick. I think its just laziness.

Do people wear them to sleep in then just say "Hey lets go!"??
I know some "outfits" do look like pj's thought.

Had a pair of shorts I later decided was too fancy to wear during the day so it became night wear along with worn out shorts and jorts and jeans.

Anything with unfixable holes between the waist and crotch is discarded immediately.

Excellent point! :thumbsup2

The PJ bottoms alone don't bother me but usually they are combined with the furry animal slippers and uncombed hair pulled into a messy ponytail. You can tell they just rolled out of bed. Honestly, I know you're just at Walmart but you don't have enough pride in your appearance to comb your hair and put on shoes???!!! I think that's where all the lazy comments are coming from.

Times have really changed-when I was a teenager we wouldn't have been caught dead out of the house without being fully dressed, in full make-up and with our hair done. :lmao:

That may be true, but not nearly to the extent some people tend to believe.

I don't have any quibble with presenting the best version of yourself when on a job interview, making a sales call, or asking for a date. When you want something from someone, of course it's sensible to make yourself as attractive as possible.

But at WalMart? A theme park? In those situations, I don't have anyone to impress. If some store clerk treats me shabbily because of the way I'm dressed, I can choose not to reward that by patronizing their business.

If an acquaintance wrinkles her nose at my Crocs, she's just saved me from spending any more time and effort on her since I know we don't share the same values.

People use "appearances matter" to justify all kinds of vanities and rudeness. In reality, it's not nearly as important as people imagine, especially in a casual context.

As I look out over some of my co-workers now dear I assure you they can get jobs and do. With thier underoo's hanging out and all. Saw a girl (lady isn't a good description of her even though she is 40+) last week in her bathing suit cover up, masquerading it as a dress. No joke, my MIL has the same one. I miss the good old days when we required people to dress up for work, even semi casual. At the ripe old age of 29 I miss those days, how sad is that.

I do, also. We are supposed to be business casual, but way too many don't have a clue as to what that entails. Some have been known to work in yago type pants with a polo type shirt and thought it was business casual since it was not blue jeans. :rotfl2:

You're correct when you say that we all tend to judge others. I find that you are being judgmental in your own post in fact. :thumbsup2

As the mother of a 14 year old girl, I see this constantly! There are times when I literally have to peel those pj bottoms off of her!

For an adult (18+), I find it to be super tacky and lazy. For a kid (<18), I see it as a fashion statement. Not my style, but then I remember rolling my jeans in the 80s and wearing my polos with collar up...and now I can't think of very many things that look sillier.

And then I think back to the late 70s, very early 80s, when girls wore nickers! Yup...I have a picture! STUPID.

And what about mall hair?

It's a fashion statement. Not one I think looks cool by any stretch of the imagination, but a fashion statement nonetheless.

It's not offensive to me, but it just screams laziness or no pride in how you look. Most of these girls and women look disheveled and unkempt. As if anything goes. I think this goes along with the pants guys wear that are about 20 inches BELOW their waist. You know, where you can see their underwear hanging out. :confused3 Now I am far from a prude, but I don't think you could land a job looking like this, IMO.

Brunette
But they're not trying to land a job in low-rider pants or PJ bottoms. They're just hanging out (literally and figuratively ...)

If someone is comfy in PJ bottoms at Animal Kingdom, then who cares? If they don't care what they look like, why should I? And, as has been mentioned ... I'd rather see someone in PJ bottoms than too short shorts.

Wondering, though ... to those of you who said it was "tacky" or that you couldn't understand it ... if someone was walking up Main Street USA or around DHS wearing PJ bottoms with Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse on them, with a red t-shirt and mouse ears, would that make a difference? In other words, is it PJ bottoms in general or does it depend on the "outfit"?

It is just as likely that you BEHAVE differently when you are nicely dressed vs. when you are schlepping around in sweats with no makeup.

I know that I dress very differently depending upon whether I am singing at church, working in the church nursery, or going to the grocery store for a gallon of milk. I can sing just fine in yoga pants, but I FEEL differently when in a skirt and heels. Even back when I wore a choir robe and no one could see what I wore, I'd 'dress' up, because it was part of the package.

People are on vacation mode----unless they're dining at V&A or the like, I can't see why they'd need to dress to impress.

I work for a forture 50 company in the customer service division. We have about 800 employee's onsite. You would be shocked at what you see here often, but when a company has had litigation brought against them for harrasment for disciplining employee's on their violoations of dress code, its not suprising they let them get away with that. It takes something extreme to get coached on. I believe the last time I saw it happen was when a lady wore her panty hose as pants with a baby doll t-shirt. NOT leggings, panty hose. The shocking thing is our location is 'stricter' than some of our other 20 so in the US and I see that here. Ironically our international locations are much better in the dress code areas, seems if you live in a poverty stricken country your APPRECIATE your job more and take pride in how you look for work. But that's a whole other story.........

WOW! Thanks for answering.
