Wearing All Black Today

There were at least three moments where Julia DeMato lost track of her steps and bumped into the people next to her, adding to the demented charm.

ROTFLMBO....and I thought after years of dancing that I was the only one who caught this....THIS was the best sentence in that entire article....thanks Jas...;)

I just think they did that to increase the competition and ratings and the $$$$. Maybe they think the R&B gospel edge will make more money. Who knows.

It doesn't necessarily mean the most talented one won, just the most marketable.

Certainly didn't change my opinion. I picked Clay from the start and my support never waivered.

Thank you, Miss Jasmine, for that article. I agree with most all that was said in that article.

The bottom line is that what's done is done, decision has been made. All of us Clay fans will have to live with this decision. However, that fact remains that I am still dressed all in black, something I almost never do.

And maybe we can close this post on that remark. Thanks to all of you for your comments and thoughts. I never thought I would be spending the day with you guys. :) My boss sure wouldn't be happy about it...............

One more thing, since I have spent the day here talking to you guys, I haven't had the radio on in my office. I understand that on talk radio here in Raleigh that it seems that a discussion about "an audit" of the votes has really hit the proverbial fan.

While I would truly love to learn that Clay won and Ruben did not, I don't wish this on either of them. I honestly don't. I think Clay would not want this to take place either.

I doubt the results are fixed. Last year when Tamyra was booted EVERYONE was shocked. They thought it would come down to her and Kelly in the final 2. If they were going to fix it they would have taken Nikki out a long time ago. The judges hated Nikki.
Also it was written in last years contracts that the runners up couldn't release an album before the winner. I think that because the music types between this years top 2 are SO different they really aren't fighting for the same fans.
And also I think people are really not taking into account that what they are dealing with is the recording industry. Even the judges admit they favor one contestant over another if they think the results might come out "wrong", they would play up one persons negatives and play down anothers. Which is why I don't get why everyone is so upset. Yeah, so your favorite didn't win...you weren't voting for who gets to live and who should be executed! Both Ruben and Clay had been signed to record deals before the show was over so there really isn't anything to be too upset about. The term "American Idol" means absolutely nothing in the recording industry so really it doesn't matter who "wins" the title. It's so shocking to hear grown adults talk about how they were crying when they heard the results. It's a TV show, for goodness sakes! We have millions of reasons to cry now and days and American Idol is definitely not one of them.

Sorry....gotta add my last .02 in after reading the last 4 pages and just shaking my head in despair. After all, knowing what we know about them, Clay and Ruben both would be very disappointed in US if they read this thread.

What's done, is done.

one last thing-------------

from another post

Ryan never struck me as the sharpest tool in the shed - I'll bet he read the number wrong.

Think he read the name wrong, too?

See - now I thought Tamyra was aweful and I loved Nikki's harsh sound...guess it all goes with that *difference of opinion thing* huh?

It's a TV show, for goodness sakes! We have millions of reasons to cry now and days and American Idol is definitely not one of them.

Although IMO - you are 100% right - THAT is not the issue here...I could say the same thing to people who are all upset because they didn't get Cindy's reservations, didn't get a cheap flight to Orlando, had to switch resorts because of construction or that their favourite attraction was under refurbishment when they visited....but I NEVER would because no one has to the right to comment as to why or why not someone get's upset over something...perhaps for some (such as myself) on the contrary - a television show such as AI is a temporary escape from the gruesome thoughts of every day life...

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but I heard someone on tv say that Clay should be on Broadway and that he sounds as though he should be singing for The Lion King. Well, I'd take that as a compliment. I think Clay has a beautiful voice and would sound great in a Broadway show or singing one of our favorite Disney songs.

I spent some time searching AI websites today and I haven't found a single one that has Ruben as the winner. About half are close to 50/50, but the others have Clay ahead by a wide margin.

Has anyone found any sites that have Ruben ahead by a wide margin?

I think the difference is in the casual watchers, not the ones who would visit AI websites. I watched the show every week, and my hubby would pop in here and there and watch an occasional performance. He watched on Tuesday night with me, and couldn't understand why the audience went wild for Clay. In his opinion, "do they think he is marketable?" I'm not saying he is or he isn't, but for people who just watched the final couple of weeks, Clay was nervous and probably didn't make a great impression. Ruben seemed much more relaxed. I felt sorry for Clay, there were a few times he looked like he was going to faint!

I would guess that many people who didn't bother voting before did for the final vote. And I would also guess that many of those people had a better impression of Ruben.

Nope, Ruben just had more phone lines set up. Fixed.

Clay looked nervous? The guy was as cool as a cucumber. Did we not all see how he just walked up to the mike so smoothly and wailed away.

Nervous? Ruben was always sweating, one could say he was the nervous one.

I didn't just look on AI sites, but at polls on non-AI sites which I'd think a casual viewer might vote in (probably more likely than they would actually dial up and vote).

It's so funny how two people can look at the same thing and see it completely different. With all the sweating and the look on his face after he sang, I always thought Ruben seemed much more nervous. He just seemed like he had less energy in general, but more nervous.

I tried to vote for an hour (for Ruben), and never could get through. I hit redial a couple of hundred times. I don't see a phone conspiracy at work.

Think about it. If Fox wanted Ruben to win, they would proclaim him the winner regardless of the real vote. By the end, even Simon realized that both were going to be money makers for him. No one had any reason to fix this.

I don't see sweating as a sign of nerves. I thought that Clay had a deer in the headlights look quite a bit. He was my favorite for the first several weeks, then I switched to K. Locke. Frankly, I would have been happy if any of them had won, so long as it wasn't Josh.

Do you want to know what I was really wanting to happen? As we were sitting in the RBC center waiting for the show to start. I told my husband that if the voting were to come close, I thought they should declare both winners, not announce the vote tally, and give them both the same contracts. How could the producers not come out on top with that scenario.

Yes, I know, this would have let in another lot of challenges/opportunities, but it was what I was hoping would really happen. I honestly didn't want either to lose.

I was hoping for the same thing.:D

Oh I'm not suggesting a conspiracy theory or anything like that. I'm just looking to see what fan base Ruben captured.

Sharon--I was combining my responses to a couple of different posts. I know you aren't a conspiracy theorist. :)

Would any of this be going on if Clay had won? Would it have been a "rigged" outcome then? I'm not saying that you shouldn't be upset because Clay didn't get the title, but enough with the Ruben bashing already. Both guys were equally talented & there could only be one crowned as the "American Idol". Both will have recording contracts and have great futures -- I just think it's very disappointing that a television show has brought out the worst in people.

Yep - then the Ruben fans would be Clay - bashing...:p

IMO - AI should find a better way to *poll* the votes. Just like what was mentioned earlier - someone can vote for their idol 50 times, but is that person going to buy 50 copies of the same CD....I don't think so...

That way Josh would have gone out long ago when he darn well should have...:o (what was up with that Josh sitting on the couch thing while Ruben was sweating it out in the bottom 2?) a PERFECT example was set that evening on why people shouldn't be able to vote for the same person more then once!

Ok who's the idiot that wrote that article?!?!

It wasn't Julia who was out of step it was all the other contestants who were screwing up. ....sigh.....not my Julia.....
