We survived Hurricane Charley at the Poly Concierge

Hey Dutch-
I too lived through Hurricane Charley and being from the northeast it was really something. We arrived on Aug. 10 as well and we left just last Friday, Aug. 20 and still many people had no power.
I had been to the Poly the past 2 years and feel very bad for Ivette and Dick, they are great people. I am glad that they are all okay though.
This trip I had met some really nice CM's at the Swan who also either lost their homes or sustained severe damage and I just couldn't imagine them coming into work, I gave them so much credit because I don't think I could report to work the next day.
The storm was really something. In our room we had 3 balconies and I couldn't even see out of the glass and I didn't even want to be near it since the wind was coming in that direction and I was so afraid the glass doors were going to blow in. We actually left the room and went downstairs to the lobby where everybody else was. I even had the severe pressure in my ears from the high winds.
The next day when we woke up and I looked out my balcony window all I could see was the skins from the palm trees strewn all over the grounds. They were even all inside the pools and they couldn't open up until after 12:00.
It was really something to see and something we will never forget.
My DH and I were celebrating our 25th and management had upgraded us to a beautiful grand suite because he said he wanted to make our 25th memorable. When I arranged to meet him to thank him for everything I even told him I know you wanted to make it memorable but you didn't have to give me a hurricane.
Everyone at Disney was amazing with the cleanup. They worked diligently for hours to make it look like nothing had happened. They surely wanted to make sure the tourists were taken care of and it gives me a whole new perspective on them.
This definitely was a trip to remember.
