The kids and I have been doing work as Extras this summer on Friday Night Lights in Austin. We wwere booked today for a church scene.
Today was awesome!!!!! We got up really early. Last night, I did not sleep well at all. I was up half the night wondering what if. I have this morbid fear of getting lost with the kids and I was just a bundle of nerves at the thought of driving into Austin alone with the kids.

Then we left at 7:30 this morning. The traffic was horrible. We got to Austin, got lost, turned around, got lost then got turned AGAIN, then finally found the church.

When we signed in, I asked the man if Kyle was going to be there and expalined about Benji wanting to meet him. He said he would see what he could do. Our scene that we filmed wasn't with Kyle. It was with Landry and we were sitting directly behind him.

After they said it was a wrap, the extras director called our family aside and took us to the trailers and lo and behold, Kyle came out. He introduced himself to us, commented on Grace's name, said it was his g'mother's name. He then told us this story about how his g'ma inlaw had cancer, then fought it, then got her drivers' license when she was like 80. I told the kids that in the olden days, proper ladies didn't drive just like their g'ma. I asked him if he was learing his way around Austin. He said that he has to use a GPS and his wife is better with directions. I said I'm directionally impaired I make a better passenger than I did a driver. At that point I was starting to worry about getting lost leaving Austin, so I quick changed the subject. He had his motorcycle parked there and I told him it was cute. He said that he brings his dog on the motorcycle. I then told him about our car sick cat(yeah, I know, can anyone say dork?) And he said he'd never bring a cat on his bike.

We then got pictures. He took a pic with all of us and when he took a pic with just me, he sort of growled and squeezed me so hard, I actually fell against him.

He was absolutely precious. A real gentleman. It was literally 102 in the shade and we weren't standing in the shade, and he just kept talking to us. He had to tell josh to zip up his fly, and i told Josh yeah, put your horse back in the barn and Kyle laughed. Hi has a little bitty chip in one tooth and his eyes are the same color as mine, kind of greenish with gold and brown. What a sweet heart he was!

OMG!! Jealous!! Kyle Chandler is my TV boyfriend! I LOVE him! You're so lucky!

Do you watch Friday Night Lights? I love that show. I hope it stays on.

You lucky girl! I'm a big fan of Kyle Chandler's, happy to hear he was such a great guy. Fantastic pic!:thumbsup2

I met him back when he was doing Homefront. I was really bummed when that show was canceled.

He's a cutie, that's for sure!

Oh, how lucky!!! Your photos are wonderful.

He's been my secret crush for years... ever since that WWII show he was on (Homefront- was that it?)

Oh my. I would have DIED. I've had a thing for him since I saw him in Early Edition. You lucky girl you! :faint:

ETA: Exactly how does one go about getting parts as an extra? Do you have to have professional acting experience or training? Where do they advertise, or do you have to have an agent? Sorry, full of questions as this is something I've always wanted to do and I never knew anyone who did it.

How exciting for you and your family! I've never seen his new show, but used to watch im on EarlyEdition.

Nice to hear about an actor that's a decent guy.

herc.

OMG!!!!!! I am so jealous I could die!!!! I love Kyle Chandler!!!!! And your post proves that he is a nice guy! So cool!

Like everyone else...I am so jealous and happy for you. I would love to meet him. He seems so genuine. I've loved every show he is and now my daughter and I just love Friday Night Lights!!! Great pictures for great memories!

That is so awesome!!He sounds like he is a pretty nice guy. I have loved him since he played Jeff on Homefront!! He is a doll:) You are a very lucky lady!

Lucky duck! Though I probably would have stood there frozen. I have loved him since Homefront.

Woooo....that is one good looking man.

Would you believe I was on a ski lift with him about 5 years ago (he was with his wife) and didn't realize who he was until I got off? I could have kicked myself! He was so down to earth and normal I just didn't take him for a star.

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sure this is one day you will remember always. And those are GREAT pictures! :)

Extra work is pretty easy to get. DD and dh just did extra work on a movie called the Happening (M. Night Shamylan film). I have done about 3 movies and the last one I was a featured extra in and got to play a nun for 7 days. You have to see if anything is filming in your area and see who is doing the casting for extras and send in a picture and info. or they may have an open call. Look in your phone book under casting agencys and you can call to see if they have anything coming up. It is fun and it is addicting.

What a wonderful day you had! Thanks for sharing such a happy moment with us :). We need more "good news" threads like this on the CB.

Yeah, I know all you ladies are swooning. But he's also a great actor.

His performance as a coach (& as the father of a HS sophomore) is spot on. Also, the scenes with he & Mrs. Coach are so believable (& sometimes so nice) that you forget that they are acting.

FNL is the best drama that has been on TV since "30 Something".
