We ate/drank whatever we wanted- a first time review!

We really like it there too! Even though it is smack in the middle of Fantasyland people tend to forget about it. It was nearly empty both times we ate there!

Looking forward to more reviews! popcorn::

Oh, even better if it is close to empty! It is on the list for next time no doubt. Thanks for reading!

OK, we were headed to Epcot on the 20th, Epcot happened to have all 3 of our favorite restaurants this trip(not really that shocking), we all had different favorites, but this review is of MY FAVORITE!!!! San Angel Inn!

We came here because DD6 loves mexican food. I was hesitant to book this as we are from Houston and are accustomed to a lot of very good Tex Mex. I am glad I decided to book it anyway.

So you will notice I titled my review "We ate/Drank whatever we wanted", but I haven't mentioned too many drinks yet. Well, we got some yummy drinks here, first is DH's:
IMG_3876.jpg

He had a frozen Lime Margherita, he ordered it with no salt, you can see it came salted (this happens to us alot). Thankfully DD6 loves salt, she scraped it all off and munched it. Dh was not pleased it came salted, but we were in too good of a mood to complain, and the drink was great!

My drink:
IMG_3875.jpg

The fiesta, a layer of lime, the strawberry, then mango. YUM! All flavors were great, glad I got this one to try them all.

They started us with chips and salsa:
IMG_3874.jpg

Surprisingly nice spice level. I like spice, I am glad when a restaurant that should use spice does, this was good. Not too spicy, but if you are adverse to spice you may not care for it. We loved it!

Now, DD6 love nachos, and this place has an appetizer called Tostados Tingas which are basically loaded up nachos, so I ordered them for us all to try:
IMG_3877.jpg

Essentially fried tortillas covered in pulled chicken, black beans, tomatoes, avocado, onions, queso fresca, and lots more good stuff. DD6 gave it a try, but I think it was too much stuff for her, she likes plain nachos (beans, chicken and cheese). DH was scared to try with all the stuff, so I gobbled them up. DH admitted later he wished he had tried them. My opinion, they were heaven, I want more!!! I did not feel guilty at all enjoying them all myself, the rest of my crew missed out...

Now onto the food, DD6 went with:
IMG_3878.jpg
IMG_3879.jpg

Kid's Chicken Tacos with a side of black beans. She is a huge fan of black beans and she added them to the tacos and ate every bite. I asked her is she liked it, and she said "I didn't like it, I LOVED it!!!"

Now I was torn on what to order, so I ran my choices by our waitress and she said one of my choices was her favorite:
IMG_3882.jpg

The Pollo Las Rajas. Now honestly, not my favorite entree. It was quite bland, especially given all the lovely food I had enjoyed so far. I would not get this again, I wish I had ordered...

...my DH's entree:
IMG_3883.jpg

The Tamales covered in spicy red pepper sauce served with a side of black beans. I dream about this entree it was sooo good. My poor DH loves me so much he let me eat at least half of this even though I know he wanted to enjoy it all himself. I gave him some of my bland chicken in cream sauce which I know wasn't an equal trade. Now it should be clear how much I like spicy food, if you are like me, go for the tamales, you won't regret it. My DH loved them as well.

So why was this my favorite of the trip? Honestly so may great unexpected flavors, from the great chips/dip, to the wonderful tostadas tinga app, and as mentioned the unbeatable tamales. All topped off with a great drink! We all loved this meal, I did kindly let the waitress know that the Pollo Las Rajas was not the best dish, but rather the tamales:laughing:, but I get not everyone wants the spicy!

And now for the bottom line:

Would we recommend to a friend? Without a doubt. Even for those from Texas or any other place with good local Mexi-favs.

Would we eat here again? OMG yes. I want to try the new Mexican place as well, but in truth I am worried I will kick myself if it doesn't compare. This was so good, and I am not kidding about the tamales, fantastic!

Cost: $85.01 (pre-TIW discout), TIW food/drink discount $13.80, total paid $71.21 (great value considering all we enjoyed)

TIW savings tally (running total): $79.00 - We officially passed break even on the $75 cost of the TIW card. I will fully evaluate how we did on the season pass upgrade plus TIW when I finish my reviews (I haven't added up, we are in this together).

Great reviews!! Love your picture of the fire dancer at Spirit of Aloha! :goodvibes

Thanks so much. My husband snapped the pics of the show, which you may notice are better quality then my food pics. Next time I will have him do the food pics too. FYI, the fire dancer was awesome in case I didn't mention;)!

Oh thank you for the info on pizza at MK, this is great news for DH and I next time we go!

The TIW card is great, glad we got it, works well for us! But here is the problem, now that I have APs I am thinking of planning 1 more trip, LOL!
yeah, it wasn't bad. we ate there last December and actually enjoyed it, plus it has those few seats overlooking the Small World ride!

having APs really demands another trip- i agree! We got our first APs this trip too and going back in October. i mean, you have to, right? :rotfl::thumbsup2

I am loving reading your reviews and especially with the pictures to show what you are describing. Thank you so much for all the effort!

Thanks so much for following along. I tried to get all the pics, missed a couple! Glad you are liking the reviews:goodvibes.

Subbed! Loving it so far, waiting for more!

My wife and I did Spirit of Aloha last time we were there, but it was raining (I think that might be an understatement, it was torrential rain) so I think they cut a few parts out judging by your review. I think we might have to give it another try this year.

Yum! That margarita looked wonderful! I wish I had gotten that instead of my icky passionfruit one!

I liked San Angel, but the rest of my family was disappointed the last time we ate there, so it hasn't made it back on our rotation. I have also heard mixed reviews on the Hacienda, so we didn't try that one either.

Wow, we had been so worried about the rain possibly causing the show to get canceled. Fortunately for us that day the weather cleared up early, I can imagine they do less in the rain, I am shocked they perform at all!

Thanks for following along, my next update will be tomorrow as DD6 started Ice skating lessons tonight which took up my evening time, but coming next is DD6's fav!

Oh, really, we must have hit is just right. But like I said, I disliked my meal, but loved everything else. My margarita was really good, so if you ever make it back I recommend it. I am really torn on whether or not to try Hacienda...

What do you like at MK? It seems to be the one place I haven't found that good meal at, I have just gotten used to it being not good. I am sure I must be missing something...

And we will miss each other in Oct, we are going over Columbus Day weekend, busier then most Oct time frames, but less busy then we have seen in the past (I hope), we have thus far done Spring Break and the latest trip was the week before Christmas! So we are good at busy... BTW, how is BLT? We rented points there for Oct, any advise, I see you are an owner there...

OMG, I just wrote a blog of our Nine Dragons experience just to have my computer flip out on my and not post it. I will re-write during my lunch break tomorrow, in the mean time, I had forgotten to mention:

Disney Vacation Christmas 2010 by Kristian Weber, on Flickr

Draft beers from Canada, DH's "home and native land", I had Moosehead Light, he had full fledged Moosehead! DD6 found it unfair, so we ventured through Epcot and eventually she had:

Disney Vacation Christmas 2010 by Kristian Weber, on Flickr

A Kaki Gori (think I spelled it right), basically a strawberry snowcone with shaved ice!

I don't have the receipts handy, but all were very much enjoyed!

Tomorrow my awesome blog of Nine Dragons is coming, it is not to be missed!!!

And as long as I am mad my review got stolen by my mean computer, I have another distraction, we had opened oysters in Japan, DD6 got twins, I got a big pearl!!!

Disney Vacation Christmas 2010 by Kristian Weber, on Flickr

They made a Mickey with them, we made matching necklaces and DD6 got the big one for a ring, lucky girl! Back to the food tomorrow...

And here I am, finally reviewing Nine Dragons, so sorry for the delay. Now, this place is what DD6 choose for her favorite of the trip, here is here photo at the end of the meal…
AinsleyWhiteTeeth.jpg

But beyond it being her pic, we all give our waiter, Jun Pei, the best CM of the trip award; I hope my review does his wonderful service justice.

We booked Nine Dragons with the Candlelight Processional package, thought Chinese food would be nice, and it’s something we all like. Now when you book with a package you get an appetizer, entrée and dessert. Adults order off the adult menu, kids off the kids (uh-oh). DD6 is pretty set in her Chinese ways… hot and sour soup, egg rolls, fried rice are the norm for her. I believe her app choices on the menu were pot stickers or vegetable spring rolls. And entrée she had the choice of sweet and sour chicken or lo mein meatballs. I was prepared to let her order some fried rice a-la-carte and just pay for it along with my alcoholic beverages on the TIW discount, this was after all vacation, no need for any unhappiness!

We were sat very quickly after checking in. Our waiter was quick to show up, DH was all alcoholed-out so he got a coke, DD6 had her usual ice water, and I can never be alcoholed-out so I went with…
IMG_3892.jpg

A Jade Beauty, and it was a beauty! Had a great flavor, I did enjoy this beverage!

I also let Jun Pei, the wonderful CM, know that we would be ordering some alcohol and possibly food to be billed separately. Now, he was quick to point out that the CP Package included A LOT of food and we likely wouldn’t be able to finish it all so he doubted there was a need for extra food. So I explained the DD6 situation, and the best waiter ever said just to let him know what she wanted and he would make it work for us. I told him I really just thought she wanted fried rice as her meal, the rest should be fine, and we went on to order apps, I ordered DD6…
IMG_3895.jpg

Pot Stickers, I know, I know, she likes egg rolls which were her other choice, but DH and I both got…
IMG_3893.jpg

…hot and Sour soup, which she LOVES, so I tasted a bite of mine and then swapped appetizers with her. I like pot stickers so this swap worked best for all of us. We had also alerted the best CM ever (our waiter) that we loved out food spicy, so he had brought out red pepper sauce for us to spice up our food, which I did with the pot sticker sauce (it was then perfect) and DH and DD6 did with the soup.

Jun Pei stopped by to see how we liked the apps and noticed the switch; this is where the fun began. He could not believe DD6 was eating the soup, and loving it. He made her feel so special to be eating the soup, it was so nice to see! The pot-stickers were very good, and the soup was fabulous!

As requested, DD6 was served not one, but two bowls of…
IMG_3898.jpg

Fried Rice! Was really nice that he did that off menu for us. Usually restaurants can be so rigid; Jun Pei gave us no problems at all and just made magic happen! She ate every bite of her fried rice, so I know it must have been great.

I went with…
IMG_3900.jpg

Kung Pao chicken, hold the peanuts. I love Kung Pao but peanuts in my food just are too much for me. This Kung Pao was really good, nice flavor, not too spicy but he make sure they added extra spice for me! DD6 had some of this as well and she kept asking for more. I also was ready for another drink and went with a Tsing Tao draft beer. It was a beer, I like beer, but don’t do well at distighushing one from another unless it is something really dark or hoppy, this one was just a nice light flavored beer, refreshing!

Finally, DH went with…
IMG_3897.jpg

The Canton Pepper Beef. He said it was fantabulous! As a non-red meat eater, I took his word for it and did not have a try.

At this point we are all stuffed, there is no way I could eat a dessert. Our wonderful waiter had stopped by several times to joke with DD6 throughout the meal, and we were all in good spirits, so I felt ok asking him if it was at all possible to “pool” our 3 desserts together and forgot the menu, we just want a mango milkshake to go. Jun Pei said we will have to see, then a few minutes later he re-appeared with 2 to-go cups filled with mango milkshakes and said he had a deal for us, 2 milk shakes in exchange for DD6! We gave her the chance, told her we’d pick her back up in Oct when we have a return trip planned, told her it was the chance of a lifetime to stay and work at Disney, but she choose to stay with us! Jun Pei was disappointed, but gave us the milkshakes anyway!!!

And now for the bottom line:

Would we recommend to a friend? Certainly, we liked all the food and had a great time with a wonderful CM.

Would we eat here again? I think it will be a must for DD6, she loved it, and if we get lucky enough to find Jun Pei there again it would be a bonus.

Cost: $117.12 for the CP Package, we also added a large tip on top of this for the fabulous service, $17.12 for my drinks (including tip) TIW food/drink discount $2.79, total on drinks $14.41
TIW savings tally (running total): $81.79

What a fun experience at 9 Dragons. For some reason, that's one restaurant we've never really looking into eating at. May have to change that next trip...

And I HAVE to try that Fiesta margarita. Wonder if I could get a to-go cup of that! :rolleyes1

We liked it, so if you are looking to try something new I would say its a nice choice. And I wish I had one of those Margaritas now!!!
