We Are the World Debut!!!!

While I do have a soft spot for the original (I was 17, a huge MTV/music fan, very moved by it all...) I find the criticism of the new version overly harsh in many ways.
I still am a music fan as are my 2 "tweens"; I recognize most of the artists. In comparing the 2 videos, I don't see the "different vibe" or "lack of heart". While I understand that hip hop is not everyone's cup of tea--how can u honestly say the group of artists singing on that particular verse displayed anything other than heart? Same w/ Wyclef--not that I am a huge fan, but he was singing/(yelling) from his heart about the people of his country, who are hurting. And Celine--doesn't she always sing like that? How, really, was she doing anything different than her normal performance?
The original was a coming together of a variety of artists--MJ, Willie Nelson, Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Warwick--all very representative of the 1985 music industry. My understanding is that the new version is supposed to be a coming together of a variety of TODAY's artists-and I think it was: Young--Bieber, Fergie; Older-Celine, Tony Bennett. Not everyone that was invited to perform on the original ended up actually performing-same being true for the new recording; a lot depended on who could show up on the designated day.
The only way I think it could have been a more accurate reflection of today's music is if there were more of the major Country artists-Tim/Faith, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, etc.
There are so many "ugly" things that people do in the world today. I simply find it unnecessary to criticize so harshly the artists involved in this charitable event.

I agree with you also!!!:thumbsup2

loved it! Watched the 2nd time and loved it even more! Buying it on I tunes!

FWIW-- Fergie isn't NEW music. She is in her high 30's-- been in the in the industry for a very long time. She put out her first album with a trio back in 1991 and the first Black Eyed Peas since 2003-- almost 10 years!

I consider Fergie more middle music-- not brand new like Beiber but old enough to have song set to Musak!

Aww, that's sweet.

I still found the whole thing very poorly produced.

Just wanted to add that I am by no means a Jennifer Hudson fan, but I thought she was the best thing going on in that song.
