Kids got all excited when they heard the Ice Cream truck go by today and dh just said " nope thats the music truck, his job is to drive around and play music for everyone! Isnt that nice of him?" he stuck to his guns for awhile but finally gave in. ;)

We told our old babysitter about that one and he said " Dang! I read about parents like you in my Psych classes!"

LOL
Hey, it worked on Cameron for 3 summers!! :)

So how have YOU been a mean parent lately?

I sure have!!

J.C. got signed papers yesterday and had a -0- on something. He said he ""forgot"" but that doesn't work in this house. His cell phone is taken away from him until we see the next batch of signed papers.

We took DD to the circus when she was about 2 years old (doesn't even remember it). At intermission we told her the circus was over and it was time to go home. We came clean with her a couple of years ago. She had taken her nieces to the circus and she was talking about how it wasn't the same since she wasn't 8 or 9. When we told her what she did, she laughed and said she wished her nieces would have been little of enough to do that too.

That's a good one!! I had to put DD's tricycle in a time out today because for some reason it kept taking her into the street. At least that's her story and she's sticking with it  .

Awww....

To explain to Maddy that we have to leave WDW (she LOVES the Haunted Mansion!) at night, we tell her the ghosts are going to bed. So, anytime it's dark outside, she tells us:

"Oh, ghosts are sleepin'. Fish are sleepin' (Sea World). Cat-a-hat is sleepin' (IOA)."

She's pretty darn cute :)

I think it was the year before last.. A day or two before Christmas my granddaughter (who was 4 then) decided that she just HAD to have this one particular toy that she saw advertised on television.. Only problem was you COULDN'T buy it locally - you had to order it via the number on the television.. She was 100% sure that "Santa Claus" was going to bring it for her so rather than have her be disappointed I asked if she had put it on her list.. When she replied that she hadn't, I went to the telephone (with her sitting right there) and pretended to call "Santa" so I could make him aware that she had left something off her list..

Well - I went into this elaborate discussion (with nothing but a dial tone on the other end of the line) about how I was calling for my granddaughter - gave her name - and asked if it would be possible to add something to her list..

Then I started in with the - "Um hmmm.. Oh, I see.. Yes, I understand - and I'm sure it won't be a problem..." - blah, blah, blah..

I hung up the phone and then told my granddaughter that there was a little problem because the particular item she wanted was reserved for 7-year-olds - but that "Santa" would be sure to substitute some other wonderful surprise that she hadn't included on her list..

She bought it - hook, line and sinker - and there was NO disappointment on Christmas Day....:teeth:

Sometimes you just gotta be creative....::yes::

When my son was 1-3 we would buy lots of Dollar Store toys for his birthday. We thought at 3 that we had gotten away with it again. When his 4th birthday was coming around we asked him what he wanted. He said he did not want anything from the Dollar Store because the toys are cheap and they break. :p :p

He had been to the Dollar Store off and on and I guessed he figured it out on one of his outings.

Here's another one we still get away with. He's 10 now. There are two kids on the block that are pretty bad. It's heck keeping an eye on them. They break everything they touch.
When they ring the doorbell, we look out and tell my son it's a salesperson. Works every time. He knows we can't open the door to sales people and he never gets up to look out the peephole. LOL!

One of my dd's lost a tooth and as we were going to bed I realized we hadn't put anything under her pillow from the "tooth fairy". Well neither DH or I had ANY money in our wallets. I searched the house and found nothing. So I went into her piggy bank and took out a dollar bill to put under her pillow. (Yes, I felt very ashamed....and Yes, I did replace it in her piggy bank!)

When my oldest was 2 and 3 , I told him that all of the stuff by the checkout counter at the grocery store was bird food.. and we gave the birds nice bread crumbs so we didn't need to buy and other bird food... he believed it until he got to pre-school..:teeth:

When DS was young he was probably 5 before he actually went to bed on Xmas Eve knowing that the NEXT day was Christmas.

When he was really little we had a Nintendo that was DH's and mine. DS became heavily addicted to it and it became a real issue. HE whined to play it, whined when he lost, whined when he played too much and was generally miserable. So we took it away. For months ans months. But I still had the original box and we wrapped it up and gave it to him for Christmas about a year later!!!! He never knew until very recently.

we told the kids that when the ice cream guy rang his bell that means he was out of ice cream.

My friend told her kids that it is illegal for kids to chew gum until they're six!

I can't remember anything "mean" my parents said. I'm sure there are several. But I do remember my aunt, who is only about 7 years older than me, telling me that Santa Claus got run over by an ice cream truck down at the boardwalk (my grandparents used to live on the Jersey Shore about 6 blocks from the ocean so we walked the boardwalk all the time) I was so distraught and my parents were so mad at her. Looking back it's hilarious.

Hey, at least the 'tooth fairy' put something there!

Our oldest had to try 3 nights in a row one time.

She lost the tooth while I was in the hospital with baby #2. I didn't find out about it until I came home and DH claims he missed that page in the official daddy rules!
My youngest just lost her first tooth this week and I heard DD #1 telling her: "sometimes the tooth fairy gets really busy and it takes more than one night - but don't worry, if that happens - thats when you get the big bucks for your tooth"

New to the boards... but I had to post this story ... It is too funny!

When my sister was about 3 years old she had pet ducks that lived in the backyard. She loved them and would go out and feed them and chase them around. Well pretty soon the ducks started destoying the yard and getting on my parents last nerve. They decided to donate the ducks to my sisters preschool. The preschool had a fenced in pen where they had a bunch of ducks and chicken that the kids could watch and look at. Anyway so my parents went ahead and donated the ducks to the school. A few days later my Dad was dropping my sister off at preschool and my sister looked in the pen for the ducks. They were no where to be found. My sister looked and looked and was starting to get upset. So my dad pointed several ducks out to my sister and said that they were her ducks, and that the ducks change color when they get older or something when they are in a new home. By sister of course, being three bought it hook line and sinker and never thought anything different, that is until oh about 3 years ago, when my sister was 22! The ducks came up during a conversation and she said " Hey Dad remember how my ducks changed color when we gave them to the preschool?"... and my Dad laughed and said "Oh yeah, about that..." "It turns out when we donated the ducks to the school the owners ATE THEM!, I didn't have the heart to tell you."
Now if that is not being a bad parent .... I don't know what is... first you give the kid's pets away... THEN you lie to them about their sad death!

Oh my gosh! I did this too---3 times! DD will be 3 in May (and I may do it again). She got Bitty Baby from American Girl for her first Christmas from Grandma.

When I had DS, I bought a "newborn" outfit, dressed Bitty Baby and gave it to DD when she came to see me at the hospital. (This was in August)

2 days before this Christmas, she "got" the Santa deal and wanted a baby doll, that's it, nothing else!

And the last thing we need in this house is another baby doll!

So, you guessed it, I dressed up Bitty Baby in the original Christmas dress (She hadn't seen the dress for a while), she opened it first and was THRILLED!

So, even though Bitty Baby was overpriced, I think I've got Grandma's money out if it!!

This is TOO funny! :teeth: I'll have to save this thread in case I ever have kids and need some tips.

My youngest DS was almost potty trained at 3 years old when he suddenly announced that he was never using the potty. I let him slide for a few months. We had a WDW trip planned about 6 months after his announcement. About a month before the trip I told him that Mickey Mouse didn;t allow diapers at Walt Disney World.

He was completely trained in 3 days!
