We are booked for Feb!

We will be there Feb 25-Mar 5 (Mar 2-5 on the Wonder). Be advised, this week is Mardi Gras week so WDW will be filled with New Orleanians trying to escape the madness!

We were there during Mardi Gras '04 and didn't think it had that big of an impact on crowds.... other than DTD was mobbed the Monday night before Fat Tuesday! A really cute family all decked out in the MG colors was selected to be the opening ceremony family at MK on the morning of MG. :goodvibes

That's a cute idea! Fat Tuesday in '06 is also my daughter's 3rd birthday, so I am trying to think of a way to combine WDW, Mardi Gras, and her birthday all in one! Can you imagine the hotel decorations?!

Not just New Orleanians escaping Mardi Gras madness, but lots of So. Louisiana folks in general taking advantage of the Mardi Gras break. I also believe Mobile may get a break this time of year as well, since they celebrate at Carnival time.

Fingers crossed that we'll be part of that So. LA crowd headed east on I-10!

I am taking my honeymooon in Feb. 06. We are going Feb. 5-12. We are from New Orleans and wanted to make sure we did not interfere with the Mardi Gras crowd.

CAn't wait

I went to college in Mobile, and we always had a Mardi Gras break. You are correct, there probably will be an influx of people into Orlando from all of these areas. There was always friendly fighting between Mobilians and New Orleanians over the origin of Mardi Gras! Finally, it was agreed that Mobile started it but New Orleans perfected it! Seriously, I enjoyed it when I was in college but now with 2 kids I love to escape it. My DH had to be convinced to leave, though, since he loves Mardi Gras.

When is Mardi Gras for '06?

We just booked for Feb. 4-11 2006 with AAA discount. Taking down my DF and her 2 DS who have never been down there. Can't wait!!

:cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm thinking that MG week will be less crowded than Pres. week, don't you? I've never been Pres. week though so it's just a guess since tons of northern schools have pres. week off. Our teachers haven't settled their contract yet so I have a ressie for both weeks just in case! :confused3

WOO HOO! Just booked day #2 of 6. BCV look out here we come!

Why are you only booking one day at a time? :confused3

I'm using SSR points and my 7 mo. window for all the other DVC resorts is just opening up. I could wait until next Mon. and just book all 6 days then, but I don't want to chance it that they won't have a 2 brm at BCV for all the nights I need. It's really very simple to call them and say, "Add another day please!" :earsboy: Only takes about 2 minutes.

Hey!!! Yes, it did originate in Mobile and we get out of work for Mardi Gras Day and the kids get out all week. The last 2yrs. we have been in Disney World during Mardi Gras week and it's not too bad. We would be going the same time next Feb. but Mardi Gras Day is so late and the value rates go up Feb. 16th, so we are going Jan. 13th.
Have fun!

Thanks! This thread has been great. I have been trying to figure out if the crowds will be heavy during Feb 27 thru March 4. We live in New Orleans and wanted to go during Marti Gras week since the kids are out. But I was really worried that it would be super crowded. It sounds like it won't be too bad though. Anyone else have experience with the Marti Gras time?

We just booked our 2006 trip through AAA (Carolinas) for January so they are booking now for next year. Great rate too. Can't wait!!!

Hi, I see that you live in Mobile. I am a Spring Hill graduate and I loved living in Mobile. Do you try to escape Mardi Gras in Mobile like a lot of New Orleanians do?

Booked day #3 this morning, Valentine's Day at BCV's! Monday I will finish booking days 4,5 & 6! :cheer2: We're goin' to Disney World!

HOT DOG!!! We are now fully booked in a dedicated 2 brm at BCV for Feb 12-17th!
:flower: Yipee!!! :flower:

:wizard: Let the MAGIC begin! :wizard:

Spring Hill is a great school!! I actually love Mardi Gras but we've been going to Disney World the last couple of yrs. during that time because of the time off we get and it's value season. Last yr., it was cool because we wore our beads and brought extra to give to the characters and everybody walked up to us to get some. You see a lot of people wearing their mardi gras rugby shirts. A lot of people from LA!!!! The lines are not bad at all.

I am so glad to hear the lines are not too bad during Mardi Gras break. We went to WDW in 2003 during Thanksgiving and it was so crowded! We did not nearly get to do everyhting we wanted to so I am hoping to make up for it on this trip! I hope you and Mobile fared well with the hurricanes...when I was in school there I remember 1 hurricane in 4 years. Now it seems like they all head for Mobile :sad2:
