I have been reading some people's signatures and some refer to staying at WDW Villas .

Are these villas owned by Disney?

Are they on Disney property?

How do I find further information about them!!!????

This planning is so hard, .............:confused3

Asusming you mean Disney's "Beach Club Villas", "Boardwalk Villas", "Saratoga Springs Resort Villas"... then they aren't true "villas" as I think of them - they are basically condos instead.

I think of a villa as (normally) a detached property with generally it's own private pool. Disney's "villas" are actually condos in a block with a shared pool. It is definitely a better option than a hote room I think (if pricier) - because you get more living space and a kitchen. BUT it doesn't have the same room ot privacy that you get in a proper/private villa...

Most of the 'Disney Villas' are DVC (basically the Disney version of timeshare) and you can rent points from owners but you will most likely find it dearer than a private home rental. There is a DVC forum on the DIS boards which you could check out for further info.

Tracey :)

you can also just book them directly with wdw (central reservations)...
but they are a great deal more expensive than a private home rental...
for a 2 br 'villa' inside WDW, you might spend as much per night as you would per week on a private home...

Well almost ..... Old Key West and Saratoga Springs are condo-type; the others - Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club Villas and Boardwalk Villas are hotel type with internal corridors. The studios are like normal hotel rooms with the addition of a small kitchen area whereas the 1 and 2 bedroom and Grand Villas have separate living rooms, bedroom(s), full sized kitchens and laundry areas.

They might not have the room or privacy of a private villa, but they are all on Disney property and are either set in beautiful landscaping or are appropriately themed. They are also definitely not cheap ;)

Condos can have internal or external corridors... A "condo" is just a bedroom/livingroom/kitchen/bathroom type combination.

So all of them are condos.

That's interesting. On the US DVC boards (where I usually 'hang out') they frequently distinguish between the two types of DVC resort as 'condo' style or 'hotel' style. I'm no expert in such things though so I am happy to be corrected :)

Maybe that is what they call them at Disney

Maybe it is a "hotel style condo", rather than a "condo style condo". I always take a condo to equal a flat/apartment type set-up in the US.

Maybe I just look at it differently, I always think of a:
- hotel as rooms & suites, and
- condos as apartments/flats (even if they are serviced)

I suppose that really all DVCs are basically "condo hotels" (i.e. condos, but with the full facilities of the Disney Hotels that they are attached to...). Whatever, don't think of them as "villas" as such (even though they are called them...). They still seem great, though - and offer a great option to those who wish to stay onsite :)

It is all semantics anyway - we are both completely right :thumbsup2

Kev,

If you are looking at booking a villa, is it worth considering booking your own independantly and not going through Virgin?

Personally feel it's a much better way as you choose where you want to stay.
