We are supposed to close on a resale contract for OKW points in mid-January. The contract (our first) has a March use year and it will transfer many unbanked points (over 350) to us which will expire at the end of February. What is the likelihood that we will be able to secure reservations at any DVC resort with so little advance notice? Are there any other alternatives available in light of the fact that it will likely be toward the end of January before Member Services acknowledges us as owners of record? Your thoughts are appreciated.

The next to last week is President's Week and it's very crowded. The last week is school vacation for some but not as crowded.

CGregoryJr, a few weeks ago I attempted to get a studio at any of the DVC WDW resorts for Presidents' Week and there was no availability for that week. If I would have asked for the week prior, there were a few days at one of the DVC resorts (maybe three days, tops, but I think it was for a one-bedroom villa only). I did not ask to be placed on the waitlist (that is sometimes an option).

I called in Sept. for a studio for Pres. Week and there was no availability. In Oct. the waitlist came through, and we have a stuio at OKW now for that week. I am still on the waiting list for BWV or BCV. In the past I have had a lot of success with the wait list.

If they are current points imply not banked, you have a couple of options. First, ask the current owner to bank what he can. Then you can either consider a short term deposit to II, rent the points, use them if you can or you can ask MS about the one time double secret special banking option. For that many points, I'd do the latter.

Dean, the "one-time double secret special banking option" is apparently living up to its name. I'm not familiar with this option. Please advise. Thanks.

P.S. Naturally, the Seller has already banked all their eligible points.

DVC will allow a once in a lifetime per contract banking option that is outside of the stated rules. I personally have taken points too late in the use year to bank and actually in the holding account and taken them out of the holding account AND banked them.

I'm far from an expert on this, but if it turns out that you have all these pts and need to burn them up or loose them, you may not be able to get a ressie for any of the DVC resorts but you could use the pts to stay at the other regular WDW resorts (i.e. the GF concierge or Y & B) and go in style. Although there may not be availibility at the DVC resorts there is usually availibility at the WDW resorts somewhere.

You may not reserve and stay at one of the Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection or Concierge Collection resorts in the last 60 days of your use year. With a March use year, that means you will need to make the reservation on or before 12/31. If you do not close until January, this option for the banked points will not be available to you.

See that, you learn something new every day. This is why I said that I'm far from an expert. Sorry I couldn't be more help.:( Hope everything works out for you though.
