We are new DVC members, and have reservations in Dec, and March. We have enough points to go again in Aug. However, we know it will be Hot and Muggy. I would like to hear from you all on stratigies for enjoying our time there. We will have AP's so we do not feel the need to "See everything" like we would as a one time guest. Also what are the crowds like? We are thinking of the 13th -19th of Aug.

Thanks.

go early - leave - come back in the late afternoon - early evening.

in between park time - go swimming, relax, go shopping, read a book, take a nap (so you can go until EMH ends), etc.

drink WATER - lots of water!

We just had our first Disney Vacation in August (5-15) and loved it. We did find that it got busier at the end of our trip because of the free dining plan but because the Florida schools had gone back our first week was much quieter than expected.

As someone else suggested, we mostly went early, left the parks around lunchtime. We then enjoyed a leisurely afternoon at WL before setting out again in the early evenings. On the hottest day, we were at Epcot and we concentrated on Land and Sea, lots of air-conditioned areas! I also found the water fan bottles were great for giving us all a little cool down.

I had been a little concerned about the heat especially with a 5-year old (and me!) who don't handle it well. However, I have to say that it was nowhere near as bad as I anticipated, there always seem to be an air-conditioned ride or shop when you were flagging.

Exactly!!!! We have gone for 3 10-16 day trips in August. Just plan your days as Spicey said.

Thanks.

I had to laugh at the dates.... I have ressies for Dec, March and I'm going August too!

I've done the last week in August for the past 3 years and LOVE it! We do the parks in the morning, swim in the afternoon and either head back to the parks at night, or I head out to Jellyrolls! The parks are so empty the last week. We rode Buzz Lightyear 5 times in a row without a wait  The temp. ave was around 90 during the day 80ish at night. The humidity didn't bother us at all.

Have fun and maybe we'll bump into each other one of these months :wave2:

I am another poster who TOTALLY agrees with spiceycat.................She has it nailed!!!!! That is definately the way to go!!!! Just a bit of info, the points decrease around the middle of August and so do the airfares.

I am relieved to find someone who felt the wait was not too bad in August. What dates did you go? and also, was it worse on the labor day weekend? or the days leading up to labor day? thanks

We just did the last week in August and I wouldn't say the parks were "empty". Sure, they're not at peak, but they weren't quite empty either. I compare it to the first 2 weeks of December, just much, much, much hotter! I agree with the early morning, back to the hotel break. But don't expect it to be much cooler in the evening - it's still usually in the 80s. My other strategy is to seek out the air-conditioned attractions - they are great for cooling off. Drink plenty of water and take lots of breaks. Good luck!

I agree with all above. The free dining does bring the people in for August, but it is targeted this year to the UK and bounce backers from the Nov/Dec 2006 promo. Lots of water is the way to go, and taking it slow. Two in our group almost passed out on our last August trip due to dehydration.

Sound's good to me.

We love the last week of August the crowds are lite and the heat isn't that bad just take it slow. Last year we did Universal last week of August and the front of line pass waits were longer than the standby lines. Most rides we were third or fourth in line.

did august for years...hear is what effectively ended that for us

-two summers ago, third week in august was the hottest on record with temps above 95 each day.

- three summers ago....Hurricane Charley....for those of you who have not experienced a hurricane, the novelty wears off quickly!!!!

- four summers ago it rained so much my family returned from orlando in an arc rather then a plane, and i have the three dozen Mickey ponchos to prove it!!!!

All that being said, there are plenty of great memories and fun times during those trips, and i wouldn't trade them for anything....but we have now switched to february vacation....see ya in 3 weeks!!!!!

DS & I have been to WDW the last 2 wks of Aug for the past 2 years.

This year we're returning in Aug for a wk
I'll also be there in April and Nov this year for a wk solo

ITA, Florida rain can be intense.

We are actually doing our first August trip this year. Kids getting older... already pulling them out a few other times...

I am worried about crowds (we usually do Sept). Especially after what people posted last year as a result of free dining. Then again, we visit so often that we really don't spend alot of time in the parks anyway. I just don't want to have to fight for a chair poolside. I will be very happy if they leave the free DDP to the UKers & bounceback people! (Yeah, I know, don't count on it!)

Besides what everyone else said, PACKING IS A BREEZE!!! Besides the "necessities", all you need are shorts, tanks, and bathing suits! No jackets, no sweatshirt, no long pants!!! EASY, EASY, EASY:banana:

Hottest time we were at Disney was July 4th - and crowds were bad. August is hot - but we do the same - arrive at the opening, leave for a swim and nap and go back in evening for fireworks. April and Oct are nicest months.
