WDW in August - How Hot?

Average??? Ha...

We always go to WDW in Sept. and it is still steaming hot. last Sept it was hovering in the upper 90's 3rd week of Sept. Everyone we spoke to said "that's nothing.....you shoud be here in August....this is a cold spell" sept while still hot can be 10-15 degree difference. While still hot, it is not as STEAMY. I was not kidding about the 104 and 100% humidity. My DH and I went to Orlando with family in August and all we did was fight with one another because everyone was heat stroked and really nasty.

We go in Sept because we love the very low crowd levels, which makes up for the high heat. The crowds are so low that we are usually done for the day by 3-4 o'clock because most rides are a walk on.

I find August oppressive where I live, but we have a constant sea breeze which keeps things cooler.

I love Disney. I love all travel. I love NYC in August - but I have *never* worn a neck wrap and I'm not sure even a trip to WDW is worth me wearing a neck wrap for 6 days. :sad2: Really. Can you imagine the nice family picture in front of the castle ------ with everyone wearing dripping neck wraps? It's like a horror movie!

Neck wraps are usually not to wide (like a tie) and have gel type beads in them. You run cold water over them or put them in a fridge to cool down. They can fit around your neck and under your shirt if you wish. They don't drip, at least not the ones I have used and are quickly removed for pictures!

We are going then, staying at Movies and plan to make it through. I live SE COastal VA, so humidity has already started here. We will do what we must for the magic! And it is our 1st time and I think I am going solo with 2 special needs kids. Want to trade?

DH and I went w/o kids last July. Since we're from MA we were shocked at the heat/humidity. Each time I went outdoors my glassed steamed right up. I was very sweaty and changed clothes 3x's a day. BUT we had a fabulous time. When we were too hot we cooled off. We did see many hot and tired looking families and thought it must be tough on the little ones. So take them to a waterpark one day. We found a shady spot at Typhoon and had a really cool time, just go early. Oh, and there was also a hurricane! A few downpours but not much, foget his name. We still had a faboulous time. Really really really faboulous. Also did not go commando, we strolled. We did everything we wanted.
Re: appetite. ya we're going this Aug and have the free DDP and I am concerned as you do lose your appetite in the heat. Oh well, it's FREE, so who cares if I only have a bite of each course!
Go slow and be happy!

Sharper Image makes a personal cooling system, that is like a glorified neck wrap but is silver and uses a cooling plate instead of moistend gel. Maybe your Ambercrombie set will wear those. We wear them on our trips, it will make you 5 degrees cooler, but really, is there that big of a difference between 95 and 100?

We always travel in the summer months, because my daughter can not miss school. We survive. But hot Disney is better than no Disney at all! And yes August is mind numbingly hot, and I'm from South Louisiana, I should be used to it. Animal Kingdom kicks my butt everytime!

'center of the earth hot'!!!! But we go every year at this time. Our secret...jump in the pool before you leave in the moring and put on lightwieght clothes over top and off we go. Make sure you dunk ALL the way into the water....the cool down last about an hour or two for us!!!
This would only work if you are comfortable with a 'wash and wear' style of hair and dress!!!
Enjoy,
Debbie

I don't know what I would do without these boards!

First of all - I was really kidding with my post about the neck wraps. I honestly thought it must be a joke. Never heard of them and in a few months I may own one! :rotfl:

*If* (and I honestly haven't decided yet!) we go my plan is to:

- wake up early and go to BB or TL for early entry
- stay as long as we want and then chill out at the hotel
- go to a theme park for the rest of the day/night

We have been to WDW enough so we won't feel we have to go commando. Commando doesn't always work with 3 kids anyway!

Good plan?

I was wondering about these! I bought one for a friend who is coming to WDW with us in August. It was sort of a gag gift, but then again...

I am not very heat tolerant but I am hoping to make the best of it. We can't go any other time, so we'll do what we can and have fun doing it! :thumbsup2

We are going in Aug, too. We usually go in Nov, so I am sure we will be in for quite a shock. Maybe all the sweating I'll do will help keep my weight down. The free dining is going to kill my diet!

OMG! ROFLMAO!!! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

We are going in early August. Sure to be HOTHOTHOT. We went in Aug of 2002 and it WAS.

Drink LOTS of fluids (start before you get there) and keep going. I must have asked my DD 100 times when was the last time she peed. (not going is a sign of dehydration...) :teeth:

BE PREPARED! I live in Texas and we were all VERY aware of the heat/humidity!

Years past, we always went mid Aug, to celebrate our birthdays and anniversary and without question, the heat slowed us down. The month of Aug is the time for mid day breaks, pool, nap, and have an air conditioned dinner before returning to the parks. Late July and Aug we always had problems with our camera's fogging up (eye glasses also) when we went out side for the first time in the mornings. We finally realized to put the camera's out side about an hour before we left the room for the day, then we would be fine for taking pictures as soon as we left the room. Be prepared for the heat, and have plenty of fluids available.
