Over the weekend friends took us as their free "guests" to a local Six Flags. I had been there before but the last time was 12 yrs ago so DD13 didn't remember it at all. I told her ahead of time not to expect WDW standards but also not to make open comparisons. (not that she would do it in a bragging but I wanted to be sure she didn't innocently slip)
Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our day. Spending time with friends made it a good day of course but.........
every time my eye fell on peeling paint, a "garden" full of tall weeds, a dumpster, a broken planter, a pair of saw horses with a board on them..... I honestly wasn't looking for things like this.....they just seemed to POP out at me bc we are so conditioned to WDW. Each time, I was reminded how much I appreciate Disney's attention to detail in their parks. I love how, where ever you are standing in any of the parks, you can turn yourself in 360 degrees and everything you can see will be pleasing to the eye. You know dumpsters and maintenance equipment is there somewhere in the parks, but you never see it. You know weeds must "try" to grow, but you never see them. Everything is so well kept. Anything that is being worked on is hidden with an attractive covering of some type. I love how Disney considers us, as guests, important enough to make sure we don't see anything unpleasant.
DD is only 13 but that day at Six Flags, our eyes kept meeting, silently saying to each other, "you'd never see THAT in WDW"
Now, before I get flamed by Six Flags lovers, I can totally see where Six Flags are not trying to be WDW. They fill a different role entirely. I can see where it would be a coaster-lovers dream and it's surely a nice place to take a family for rides for all ages. I sure spent many fun nights there hanging out with my group of older teen friends!
The point of my post is not to bust on other parks but more to sing the praises of WDW for a job well done.... they have set the bar so high! Truly our family has been spoiled. I vow to never take WDW for granted!!!
