WDW and the Daytona 500

Who's gone to WDW in February, around Daytona's Speedweeks in February?

DH is determined to get to a NASCAR race, and DD chimed in with "Daytona 500?" We were planning our WDW trip for November 2004 (Thanksgiving), but I wonder how it would be to move it out three more months and take in the Daytona 500. It would give me 4 more months to save, since I was expecting to have all I needed by October (Christmas Club disbursement). I haven't thought out going the week before or after, since I'm not yet certain of the date in 2005 for the 500. Which would you recommend?

The Daytona 500 is normally around the 2nd week in February, in 2004 that is Feb 15 so Feb 2005 would be Feb 13th. Valentine's Day, the Daytona 500 and Disney all in the same week- sounds good to this NASCAR fan - Go for it

We were at Disney this past week during speedweek. We drove and found traffic to be alittle heavier on the 95 from North GA- Daytona area. Other than that we didn't notice any heavier crowds at Disney. The one thing to remember is if the dates fall right. Daytona can fall on President's Day week. This could mean for substantialy higher crowds at the parks. Try to go to Disney first couple days of the trip then head to Daytone, that would miss President's Day for you.

Ironically I have been pricing things, and I think we are doing the Daytona 500 (5/15/04) and Disney this upcoming year. Way we see it, we'll rent an RV to camp at Daytona (the prices for hotels at that time are off the charts). Then we'll take the RV to Fort Wilderness and camp at Disney for a couple nights too.

I was realizing that Speedweeks fall in to the Presidents' Week time frame. I was kinda hoping the 500 would be on the 20th in 2005 and be after Presidents' Week, for the sake of avoiding the crowds at WDW.
So what you're suggesting kilee, is that we should go to WDW before the Daytona 500?
I still don't know much of the logistics. I think we'll be driving and therefore we'll be able to move around and stay in multiple hotel rooms. Who knows, maybe I'll borrow my dad's pop-up camper or attempt to talk some other camping family members in to a stay , they're race fans too!
