Wcvb Is A Grinch

I just e-mailed them that I wasn't very happy. Not everybody wants to watch the Patriots on Christmas morning.

San Antonio did have it on, at least, at 7 am. Fortunately I checked Yahoo TV listings last night. I hate when individual stations switch stuff around.

Hmmm... Is this the new face of the Grinch???

Just sent an e-mail myself. I thought I had the time wrong this morning. Sent them an e-mail looking for an explanation as to why the parade was not shown. Was very disappointed and made sure to tell them that. Also told them that I was now a "former" viewer of Channel 5.

This is the response I got today from WCVB:

We greatly regret your disappointment that the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade did not air at the time originally listed. Unfortunately, the folks at Disney denied our requests to air the parade in the afternoon, when it would not disrupt our existing schedule of children's programming. In most cases FFCC rules make it difficult for stations to pre-empt children's programming deemed educational and informational for one-time only specials such as the parade.

We apologize for the disappointment of you and your family. Best Wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.

WCVB Programming

This is the same parade that is shown each year, so not quite sure what they are talking about.

That's a lie. A flat out lie. They didn't air children's programming - They aired a repeat of Patriots All Access.

It may not be a lie. This isn't the first time I've heard about FCC rules and children's programming.

Of course they'll show football stuff over Disney stuff. There are more football fans (not me!). They may have wanted to show it in the afternoon and been unable to do so.

I'm sorry you all didn't get to see it. Better luck next year!

That's the lie. WCVB is claiming they didn't show it BECAUSE of children's programming. Patriots All Access isn't considered education children's programming.

I seriously doubt the FCC insisted WCVB air a repeat of Patriots All Acess in place of the Disney Parade.

Well I emailed them and got the same response. So I emailed them back and said I didn't appreciate them lying to me. The Patriots show is most definitely not childrens programming. If Disney let them broadcast the parade at 3:30 in the morning why not 3:30 in the afternoon? It's very strange.

I emailed them before seeing this thread and received the same response. They did the same thing last year, didn't show the parade. I wish I had known it was on at a different time though, I could have set the dvr. I knew on Sat that the parade was not going to air at the traditional ABC time because I went to set my dvr and saw the Patriots scheduled. I wonder if we could get them to reair it?

Or, did anyone tape it that I could get a copy? The salt in my wounds is that I am a huge Kyle Petty fan, my son is named Kyle for this exact reason and I heard he was a part of the show!

They're evidently referring to "Teen Kid News" which is broadcast every Sunday morning at 11:30 AM, and would have had to have been pre-empted if the one hour 55 minute Christmas Parade was broadcast at 10:00 AM.

It appears that WCVB-TV was telling the truth about this, folks.

Although I am a huge Pats fan I agree that a repeat showing of Patriots Access should not have superseded the showing of the Disney parade. As per the WCVB response I question why Disney (shifting the blame, maybe??) would deny their request to air the parade in the afternoon. My guess is that there are more advertising dollars being paid [to WCVB] for a Patriots show than a Disney parade and this must have influenced their decision.

This Week With George Stephanopoulos
Patriots All Access
Totally Patriots

That's 2.5 hours of programming just between the hours of 9:00AM and 11:30AM. I think they could have done away with 2 of those shows in order to show the parade.

Ummm...if the parade aired at 9:00 AM and lasted 1 hr. 55 mins. then it would have been over at 10:55 AM. There would have been more than a ½ hour between it's finish and the start of Teen Kids News. No conflict at all.

Sorry that the parade aired at such an inconvenient time for families in Boston. The Philly area ABC affiliate aired it on Christmas morning. But then again, our Eagles are not the Pats.

My mistake. The broadcast of the parade was 10AM, not 9AM. I'll fix my earlier typo. That's for the correction.

So given that the broadcast started at 10AM, it would have interfered with the regular broadcast of Teen Kid News, as I mentioned.

Even so, it's still a lie. NBC interrupts kids programming all the time for sporting events, such as the French Open and Wimbledon. Why would the FCC allow NBC to do it, but allow ABC to do it?
