Sure did! I slept until 11am, until I couldn't stand trying to sleep through the construction truck noise any longer. The smart thing would have been to just stay up when I got up at 6:20am to start getting things done. I have lots of laundry to do and still need to clean the living room. But my motivation that was here last weekend is long gone.

I think the sleep will ahve done you more good Holly.

Good morning all!

We are meeting up with Nan, Paul, Molly, Wilson, Jackie and Cheri for breakfast this morning at Mimi's.

Last night we had dinner with Cheri and Jackie at Hook's Pointe and had a great time.

We spent pretty much all day yesterday in the parks. We started at DL in the morning and then later on went to DCA, then back to DL.

We're enjoying DL, but a bit of a shock after the MK. We know our way around the MK so well, and keep getting confused in DL.

The castle was a shock. Sukie refers to it as Sleeping Beauty's condo.

Just a couple of culture shocks:

1. We can't get over how people stand and wait for the light to change before crossing the streen. Even if there is not a single car around ... They still stand there waiting for the light, rather than just crossing. We're from Chicago, the traffic light is well, more of a guideline than a rule.
We do not stand and wait for the light. We just launch ourselves out and across the street.

2. There are a lot more Japanese tourists and Australian tourists here than we see in Chicago. Also, I'm sure that there must be a rip in the fabric of time in Japan. The style in Japan, from what I can tell veers towards some trampy version of Jan and Marsha Brady, who like to look pouty and pose for photos sporting peace signs with their hands.

For the most part I can't tell much about the Australians. They seem like Americans, only louder.

The day we got married we stopped in at City Hall in DL to pick up the "Just Married" buttons. There must have been some confusion, because it has a picture of Cinderella and Prince Charming. I asked if they had one with just two Prince Charmings, but they don't.

We've had a lot of people wishing us well, which has been very nice. We've also had some dirty looks, which are less nice, but who care.

We're really looking forward to tonight but are still clueless as to what's happening. We're not going to be wearing the wedding outfits. It's just too hot, and from what I understand, there won't be anyplace to change.

Hi Ian. Thanks for keeping us updated. Glad you are enjoying DL. We were there for the first time after the cruise and were surprised how much we enjoyed it. You must see the fireworks if you haven't yet. I have to say they beat the socks of the WDW ones, and that pains me to say!:lmao:

Have a great party tonight and we will all be with you in spirit.

Michelle, I hope you aren't being battered by Hanna. Are you hunkered down?

I think the sleep will ahve done you more good Holly.
I'm sure you're right Marilyn. I'm going to try to go to bed early tonight too. Tomorrow after church we're headed to the Detroit Zoo, which is really quite large, so we'll be walking all day. I'm so excited to see the polar bears again and the penguins! They have so many things there that our tiny local zoo doesn't have.

Oh, and I suppose Tyler will have to do homework tonight. The information packet his 1st grade teacher gave out made it sound like she sends homework every Friday just like his kindergarten teacher did. His dad only had him do it over there once or twice, the rest of the school year fell on us. Not fair.

I'm watching some of the opening ceremony for the Paralympics. Some of it is just beautiful.

Now I am officially moved to tears as the flame is taken round the stadium.

If you get a chance to see it, watch the flame being lit.

I managed to watch at end and saw wheelchair lift to set the flame.

Michelle, I hope you aren't being battered by Hanna. Are you hunkered down?

Ian said Tennis had been cancelled due to bad weather

Ah, I saw the end of that report on the news and wondered what it was about.

Hanna is coming over to us and bringing us.......can you guess? RAIN.:sad1:

Good Morning Cruisers.......It's a nasty day here today.....Hanna is on her way, or what's left of her. It's dark, cold, windy and raining a lot.

So glad to see the Ian and Sukie wedding of the century pictures. You both looked hot! Happy that you're checking in here and updating us so we can be a part of it all. I LOVE Sukie's comment about Sleeping Beauty's condo.....it makes good sense to me.

Hi Holly, Hi Deborah, Hi Marilyn. John is off at the grocery store picking up supplies before the weather gets any worse.

Angel (dog) comes in thru the doggie door after being outside and she's running through the house soaking wet and getting me and John wet as we're doing coffee and talking.......before he went to the store.

Hi LEFT Coasters and Wedding Party People! Have an excellent time and post lots and lots of pictures for us!

Hi Deb. sorry you hace some problems with Hanna. Get the provisions in and enjoy chatting and spending time with John.

G'nite!chickenbone:woohoo:

Have a great time at the wedding reception! Say congrats to the newlyweds from me!

Chickenbone!

ckickenbone...chickenbone...chickenbone...oooohhh chickenbone

Shaelyn renamed chicken drumsticks as chicken bones when she was little, so we had chickenbone for dinner and later there was chickenbone for 'dessert' ;) ;) :lmao: :lmao:

Oh good... I hate explaining myself... :lmao: (or bubba, for that matter...:rotfl: )

I'm sure there's a good wisecrack response I should make, but I'm too slow this morning :confused3 :rotfl2:

Hello HollyTyler

It is about healthy cooking

so I made the soup and homemade pizza!!

Today seem dry but raining is on and off not heavy raining since last night.

Oh dear about floods, I am fed up with it.

DO you end up with food to take home? How did Ian and the kids like it?

I'm watching some of the opening ceremony for the Paralympics. Some of it is just beautiful.

I always forget about the paralympics. Maybe they'll show some of the ceremony tonight.

Sure did! I slept until 11am, until I couldn't stand trying to sleep through the construction truck noise any longer. The smart thing would have been to just stay up when I got up at 6:20am to start getting things done. I have lots of laundry to do and still need to clean the living room. But my motivation that was here last weekend is long gone.

so is my motivation :lmao:
Today we are counting out the kids piggy banks and starting them recording their money in a little notebook, and then they get to start getting allowances. And this afternoon Shaelyn starts a kids pottery class, she's very excited :yay:

Ian - I love your description of the Japanese tourists. :lmao: :lmao:
In the last few years we've done both WDW and DL, and we really noticed in May that we'd mix the parks up in our heads and we're confused in WDW and DL ;)

Ah, I saw the end of that report on the news and wondered what it was about.

Hanna is coming over to us and bringing us.......can you guess? RAIN.:sad1:

The US Open Tennis matches take place in Queens, NYC......Michelle lives in upstate NY......not the same area. New York is very unique because it has New York City (Manhattan) and the burroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Staten Island), Long Island and upstate New York. Each area is so different. I grew up on Long Island, mostly beaches, then moved into NYC while I was a young adult. Now I'm in PA which is more like upstate NY, very rural.

Oh no! You don't need any rain! I wish we'd get some here though. It's nice not to have the grass grow, so no need to mow, but it's so ugly with everything so brown.

Hi Deb. sorry you hace some problems with Hanna. Get the provisions in and enjoy chatting and spending time with John.

Hi Marilyn, that sounds like a great idea. It also sounds like you should be doing the same......with your own weather.:confused3

Well, I just got out of the shower, and need to go return some library books so their recorded message will quit calling me! "Hello, this is Bookmark from the Capital Area District Library. Our records indicate that somebody at this address has overdue materials. We would appreciate the materials being returned as soon as possible. Please call your librarian for any questions. Thank you." :rotfl2: Yes, I get that recorded phone call LOTS. :lmao: I can hear his voice in my sleep!

Then I need to get some groceries and have lunch. I thought there was something else too, but I'm sure I'll remember it while I'm out.

Hi Shannon. What kind of an allowance do kids get these days? I remember getting 50 cents a week when I got mine.

Hi Holly, what's on the agenda for today? Sounds like a movie and nap day for you.

Oh, we are doing now! This morning was lovely( I know!!!) so we went out to town for a coffee and a shop, and then we come home and sat and chatted over lunch in the conservatory which was lovely and warm. John has been finishing off the roof work outside and I have been pottering and getting tea ready as well as watching some of the Paralympics opening ceremony.

Now I can smell the chicken cooking and it has had a major downpour outside, so we are watching Shrek and feeling snug and safe!

Do you get fines for overdue books?

Enjoy your outing.

Marilyn, I like the idea of the Champagne Girls remaining only the girls too, but I felt bad for John not being able to join in the fun activities. So how about we do girls only at the Champagne Girls party and then do another party, a wine tasting maybe, with mixed company. Then we can have the best of both worlds and have more parties!

Don't forget we'll be doing the parties on the Tortola cruise in 09 and we're not sure where we're going yet in 10.....gotta wait to see the choices in Oct and check in here to see what everyone is picking. John and I don't care where we go, we just want to be with all of you disers. The only thing is that we're not really keen on doing another PC crossing. It was great to do it once, but we probably won't do it again.

I would pick the Southern Caribbean to do again if it's available. I hope some disers are interested in doing that one. I LOVED ALL the ports that we did on that cruise and we only did 11 nights so it wasn't as expensive as the PC.

It sounds divine! I love that you can walk to town for coffee and shopping.

John sounds like a handy man to have to do repairs around the house.

Glad your day started off sunny and glad you're now snug since the weather has changed.

What's for tea today?

I agree with you on the cruise and would do a longer Caribbean cruise - I would do any longer cruise!!!:lmao: I think it seems likely that the Magic will go to Europe, so the longer cruise would be a Transatlantic. I'm thinking it won't be a PC cruise as it would be too soon to have Alaska organised.

Not sure if we would do a Transatlantic or not. I know everyone enjoyed it last year, but reading about the weather and waves on the EB crossing etc.:scared1:

How about you?

I know we won't be doing a Transatlantic or the Med. It would be way too expensive with the airfare on top of it and we really DID NOT enjoy flying home after the PC crossing. We paid $100 for an extra suitcase, had to walk way too far in the airport with all of our luggage and then had some tanning products thrown out from the carry on bag. And that was just getting to the plane. The plane was crowded and we felt like stuffed sardines. And John does NOT like flying. We're used to driving to and from FL and we like it that way. So we would look for a cruise that will pick us up and drop us off at the port in Port Canaveral. Then we can do Cocoa Beach before the cruise and WDW after.
