My kids get $2.00 a week but they don't do that much yet. Ethan takes the trash out and Brooke puts the dishes away in the dish washer. She also helps me in a lot of other ways but that is all she is required to do right now.

WOW, me and my brother used to do a lot more work around the house for our 50 cents. Mom was divorced and single raising us alone. We used to vacuum and dust and clean the bathroom and kitchen every Saturday. I used to get stuck with dusting and kitchen because my brother was older and he picked vacuuming and bathroom. He also took out the trash every night and I did the kitchen every night. I also had to do the laundry for the whole family. We had a lot more chores than most kids do today.

I know Jon would be interested but he won't wear a wig! I like both ways so it doesn't matter to me. I just wish it was earlier so I didn't have to leave early for dinner :sad1:

OK Then! We'll have 2 different parties and we'll start them at 2PM. Cool!

Wigs, of course, are optional!:lmao: :lmao:

Oh me too. My mom was a stay-at-home mom but she still had us clean a room everyday. There were three of us at the time (I have a 16 year old brother) and we had two living rooms, a kitchen and two bathrooms. So she cleaned one and we cleaned the rest. We all did our own laundry. I was probably around 8 when that started and I know Ethan couldn't do all that now. I will say that we DID NOT have as much homework as the kids do now days. Plus we could go outside and play which is impossible today :sad1:

Hey what a coincidence, I've been doing that same thing today ;) I know you have way more to do :goodvibes

Oh I'm so jealous! You're going to have such a good time with all my buddies. Don't forget to hug and love everyone for me. AND TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES!

:lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :dance3::dance3: :dance3: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

So you call dinner tea? I thought it was before dinner. I hope you didn't have that for a snack :scared1: Sounds really good though, especially the cauliflower :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Ah, the whole dinner/tea/supper thing!!! We had a long chat with Cherie on PC crossing day about this.

I was brought up in a home where we ate our main meal at lunch time - so called it dinner(dinnertime, dinner break, see?). So tea was a lighter meal. Now I sort of mix terms. We have lunch at lunchtime, and then tea early evening which is a cooked meal(normally). We don't use the term dinner for our evening meal. But sometimes we still do for lunch!!:lmao: John will say 'is it dinner time yet?'

Afternoon tea was and is a light mid afternoon snack really - sandwiches, scones, cakes etc. High tea was a light cooked meal - ham, egg and chips, salad etc. When I was growing up we never had afternoon tea, but occasionally went out for high tea on a Sunday.

All very simple really.

Oh, and we love cauliflower. Better with cheese sauce, but today we didn't have that. We had Brussels sprouts yesterday.

Sounds good to me. But Marilyn has to come to both :rolleyes1

I'll try. I'm the type of person that forgets and then I wish I had more. I'm sure we'll take group pics.

I wonder what grade daily homework will start for Tyler. It will suck losing a bit of our together time.

Why can't your kids play outside? Is it the heat?

Sounds confusing :lmao: How did you have your big meal early? Weren't you in school? I think any day that consists of eating that much can't be bad :lmao: When Jon worked swing shift we ate dinner for lunch and he would eat a snack at work. That was before the kids though.

We got homework in kinder but some people I know that live in other states say there kids started in 1st.

The kids play outside but I have to be there for the most part. I do let them go in the back but I have to check on them a lot. We were the last free generation around here anyway. There is too many bad people :sad1: or at least it is advertised more.

WOW kids today really do have it different. We could go outside too and I don't remember getting a lot of homework until high school.

In a way it was good for us because it made us capable of living on our own and taught us responsibility.

I guess that's why kids today are so much more bored in the Summer than we were. We would do our chores first then go outside and play. They should be better now that school is back again. It'll keep them busy.;)

We try and keep them busy. I have multiple play dates every week. That is on top of Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, soccer and cheer or dance (who knows which she'll chose this time). So basically the playing is still going on, the mothers and farther just have to organize it a little more. The kids don't come to the door and ask to play, the parents set it up.

Well we had school dinners that were cooked and I always enjoyed them!!! My parents worked close by our home and went home for dinner. Mum always cooked the same thing each day of the week. That is Tuesday was always grilled haddock and chips, Wednesday was grilled chop and chips etc etc. It was always quick like that, but Sundays was always the huge Sunday dinner. We also had puddings - syrup sponge and custard, apple pie and custard, jam sponge and custard, rice pudding. School dinners also had great puddings, just the same!! We had lots of trifles, jellies, homemade cakes etc to eat too. No wonder I am a pudding myself!

I didn't have homework till I was 11 and at grammar school. I'm shocked how much our grandchildren get and how young it starts.

I've been enjoying reading our old thread from just before our cruise till during it. Such a lot of fun and excitement in the posts. Aaaah.

Your mom worked and did all that :scared1: We had our big dinner on Wednesday because my parents were on a bowling league on Sundays. It was always fried like fried steak, chicken or pork chops and always potatoes and gravy YUMMY. The rest of the days were different all the time. What is haddock? I really don't have many traditions as far as food in concerned for my kids, I guess I better do something. We do BBQ on the weekends except when we have plans.
