Hi Marilyn, Yes, we are planning to come. The dates are 7/27/12-8/12/12, so it is a little earlier and we were thinking it would be hot and wet there, but I guess we really have to be ready for any weather. We are hoping to do a month in Italy, France and England - 1 week in Italy, 1 week in France and then 2 weeks in England getting there one week before the Olympics begin to get some sight seeing in and leave before the Olympics end to get home and watch it on TV. I've been watching the web site and get email alerts about the progress. But we are anxious to see if Chicago gets the 2016 Olympics too. It will be announced on 10/2/09, but we suspect it may go to Rio (S. Am. has never had an Olympics) or Tokyo (it's been 54 years since they've had it. Obviously we hope Chicago gets it. I have a goal to see as many Olympic Stadiums as possible, so far I've been to LA (obviously - went to many of the 84 games), Montreal, Barcelona - have only flown over Atlanta. Here's the website for the Olympics.

Hey, if Chicago gets the Olympics we'll have a HUGE party here!

Ian, did you have a dinner reservation for the Vineyard Room in DCA during your trip? I just read on Mice Age that it's closing Aug. 31. Just a heads up...

We have reservations at the Blue Bayou on the night of the 3rd (the day we arrive) and at Napa Rose on the night of the 4th, the day we get married ... at least that's the plan for now until I hear otherwise.

I had wanted to try the Vineyard, but now I guess I won't be able to.

Still there are lots of other places I'd like to try.

Deb:

I had to stop myself from laughing at your story; this so could have been us instead of you. TURTLES!!!! I think they just wanted a new tank, sneaky little devils  Sorry your day was end over teacup and glad you are celebrating tonight, have a good bbque :thumbsup2

I've never heard this expression ... and I love it! In fact, I shall steal it and make it mine ...

.

Sure... I take off for a few days and you guys start another thread???? :rotfl:

Thank you all for your wonderful greetings... I haven't really read too far (the library lady is going to throw me off really soon...) But I love you all!!! :lovestruc And it was a great day... I'll post more when I get back!!!

(Time for me to go hit King of the Frosties for an ice cream... :goodvibes )

You do??? Table for how many??? :rolleyes1

My friends who just arrived at WDW yesterday will be so bummed if it rains the whole time. They're there until they get on the Wonder on Thursday.

Hey Holly, my very good friends from the TA/Med cruise are on that trip too. If they are dissers then my friends may find them.

If it is, I'm so counting on a tour of the city. I spent a week there with Jesus Christ Superstar, but didn't make it far past the venue. I'd love to see Michigan Ave. and the Oprah show, but they wouldn't be filming then.

The downstairs restaurant from the Vineyard is really nice - dine on the patio and then see the light parade. Wine Country Trattoria - good selection of Italian everything and good vegetarian food. It's really nice. It is not as much about wine as it is about food. As a non drinker, Jonathan has never felt it to be an issue there.

Well, I just checked the sked for that weekend and there are quite a few rides/attractions closed for refurbishing that week in preparation for the holiday decorations. Crap, including the Aladdin show! And the haunted Mansion and small world is still closed. They are both different from WDW. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I've been reading the thread of another couple who are planning a wedding. They're a tad younger than us by about 20+ years, together for 2 years and are planning a Disneyland wedding.

I nearly fell off my chair, over 120 guests and spending over $100K on the wedding. I think they're spending closer to $150K!

We've been together for 21 years and I'm not sure I'd pony up $100K for some over-done chicken and cake (not to mention $150K)

I'm not sure marrying Sukie is worth $100K, perhaps if pressed, I'd cough up about 15 bucks (but that's pushing it).

Haven't these people ever heard of sinking money into real estate, or perhaps nice stock funds?

They've picked out rather expensive rings.

Our rings are made out of titanium and they look like I picked them up at Ace Hardware or Home Depot.

Here I was fretting because of how much I had spent on our wedding outfits (though we're going to look pretty darn fabulous, if not just a teensy weensy odd). I fretted over the handmade cake topper!

However, we are also going to have the primo hoy paloy of California, Arizona and possibly New York society at our celebration (which, I understand from Michelle that it's being held in the parking lot of a Dunkin Donuts).

What could be better than the über-fabulous friends we have?

On a side note, Sukie asked me this evening if I'm looking forward to the wedding. I told him that the thought of being shackled to him for the rest of my life left me speechless.

Noooooooo don't say that the Haunted Mansion is closed when we're there!!!!

(By the way, I'll have to take you to Oak Park, and Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio)

Tell him that the light in the second story window is ALWAYS left on for Walt. That was where his apartment was (is) for when Disneyland was being built and the early years of the park. They were building a new apartment in New Orleans Square when Walt died. It has been an art gallery for many years and recently completed into the apartment (with some of the original interior designs) for the Year of A Million Dreams.

Oh crud, I forgot to show him. We weren't even near the computer tonight when we got home. Maybe I'll remember in the morning. :thumbsup2

OK I really give up now......I'm sitting here sipping on my champagne toasting to the birthday boy while John is cooking the meats on the barby. I take out the camera and want to start the pics since I'm wearing pink and my tiara. The camera battery died. The recharge wire is in John's laptop bag which he left at work. Even the wire connector to put the pics into the computer is in his laptop bag. No pics tonight. I give up!
Deb, my batteries are dead too! Crazy, huh? Last night I went to bed early, today my battery is dead.

I'LL BE THERE.....I'VE EVEN GOT A PLACE TO STAY! :cool1:

Ian...plan on a lunch break at the Trattoria with US....love that spot!:thumbsup2

Don't panic, Haunted Mansion isn't supposed to close till Monday, at least the last time I checked, as I remember PMing Cheri that we HAD to do it on Sunday.

I am sad about the Hyperion being closed, love the Aladdin Show.

That's the way I know it ;)

There's a thread on the main cruise board http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1923501
that has some great pictures of the Magic leaving LA and in one of the pics you can see someone holding up...Bobby Banana! Is that OUR Bobby Banana?
I saw Bobby! That picture of the Magic in port that the one person took from the plane leaving LAX is awesome! I need to borrow that one for my album. :thumbsup2

I'm so stuffed......we had steak marinated in teriakki and ginger (and it marinated an extra day so it was really good), hamburgers, italian sausage, roasted potatoes and onions, sauteed onions and garlic and a green salad. The cake was angel cake with chocolate mousse and cherries. Naturally, we drank CHAMPAGNE!!!!! Off the calorie count today......I'll get right back on it again tomorrow. But boy was everything yummy.....so good, so good. Here's pics of me and the kid. John was busy with the barby so I didn't get his pic.

Birthday boy.....he's 36 today:

I have NO idea what I'd do without my daily dose of laughter from Ian!
