Good morning Holly. We popped out for lunch and it stayed dry for us - now it is pouring down yet again!!!

It is our August Bank Holiday at the weekend(inc Monday) and it actually looks good weather!!!
Glad you managed to keep dry Marilyn! :goodvibes Great news about good weather for the holiday!

Well, I thought this would be a busy day today at work because one secretary took the day off. She works for the busiest attorneys here. Turns out her attorneys are off too! ;) So I'm back to being bored again. Good grief.

Good news though, on the job front. I'm working full time hours, but am not considered full time because I was hired for part time years ago and have just gradually kept increasing my hours as they became available. Now, I'm basically full time, but they haven't been able to approve me as being entitled to the full time benefits because my schedule has been very unpredictable for so long, with not knowing when I'll have to leave and go pick Tyler up from school when he gets in trouble, plus all the doctor appointments he was having. Well......now that it seems things have improved in that regard, our office administrator told me they're ready to give me full time benefits because I'm now able to be here consistently. This would mean I get 2 weeks paid vacation a year, health insurance (but only for me), and paid personal time (5 hours per month), and paid holidays off.

HOWEVER, I still do have to leave early once a week for Tyler's occupational therapy, and I want to continue karate for him because all his doctors say it's so good for his issues, so I have to leave work early another day each week for that (after switching his 2nd class each week to a different day where he can go in the evening). So, it's being discussed whether they can make accomodations for me and let me come in an hour early on the days Tyler's at his dad's (Thurs & Fri). I'm waiting to hear if they're willing to do that.

Only bad part is the insurance they offer here has a very high deductible ($2,500.00), so everything that I've been paying $5 or $10 for with the county health plan will be full price for me. :headache: However, all I currently have is doctor visits and prescriptions. No emergency, no urgent care, no hospital stay, etc. So I'm really tired of taking that risk and will be happy to feel secure and not have to worry about falling on the ice and breaking my leg or something like that. :thumbsup2

I've been here at work over an hour and a half with not one speck of work to do. Ugghh!

That is excellent news Holly and I hope they can work out those details for you. It shows you must have done a very good job there.:thumbsup2

They say they don't make accommodations for anybody because then they'd have to for everybody, BUT they currently do allow alternate schedules for 2 secretaries. One comes in an hour early every day so she can leave an hour early every day and the other works extra hours Mon-Thurs so she can have eveyr Friday off. Seems like they should allow me to leave an hour early those 2 days and then come in an hour early 2 different days. We'll soon see! :goodvibes

OK, I have a deal! Starting Sept. 1, I'll be working Mon-Wed 8:30-3 and Thurs & Fri 7-5 with FULL BENEFITS! AND.....even though I just recently received almost $1/hour raise, the office administrator will work on getting approval for ANOTHER raise for me at the end of the year!!!! And this leaves 3 days a week that I can juggle any appointments Tyler may need. I'll just need to make any appts. on Mon, Tues, or Wed afternoon. That's doable! No need to keep job shopping. I'll stick it out where I am for a while! I think the turning point is that one good secretary is quitting in 2 weeks, and they also know I've been interviewing for other jobs. :thumbsup2

I've been reading the thread of another couple who are planning a wedding. They're a tad younger than us by about 20+ years, together for 2 years and are planning a Disneyland wedding.

I nearly fell off my chair, over 120 guests and spending over $100K on the wedding. I think they're spending closer to $150K!

We've been together for 21 years and I'm not sure I'd pony up $100K for some over-done chicken and cake (not to mention $150K)

I'm not sure marrying Sukie is worth $100K, perhaps if pressed, I'd cough up about 15 bucks (but that's pushing it).

Haven't these people ever heard of sinking money into real estate, or perhaps nice stock funds?

They've picked out rather expensive rings.

Our rings are made out of titanium and they look like I picked them up at Ace Hardware or Home Depot.

Here I was fretting because of how much I had spent on our wedding outfits (though we're going to look pretty darn fabulous, if not just a teensy weensy odd). I fretted over the handmade cake topper!

However, we are also going to have the primo hoy paloy of California, Arizona and possibly New York society at our celebration (which, I understand from Michelle that it's being held in the parking lot of a Dunkin Donuts).

What could be better than the über-fabulous friends we have?

On a side note, Sukie asked me this evening if I'm looking forward to the wedding. I told him that the thought of being shackled to him for the rest of my life left me speechless.

.

Mature couples know that it is the marriage that they invest into, not the wedding ceremony - which by the way makes them crazy! I think Oprah has done about 10 shows on this subject with Suze Orman telling young ladies how crazy this absurd hoopla is in the long run with their student loans and wedding bills. Statistically they keep proving over and over that so many early divorces are a result in investing into the ceremony and not into the relationship. We didn't get married until we were older and spent the majority of our money on our trip to WDW, but still had a beautiful small wedding in Laguna Beach. We made it all about having a dinner party with friends and then got married where they hold the art festival.

Noooooooo don't say that the Haunted Mansion is closed when we're there!!!!

(By the way, I'll have to take you to Oak Park, and Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio)

We have watched every documentary about the FLW homes and would love, love, love that.

Ah I see
HI Ian

I am afraid that my husband and I didn't enjoyed the Blue Bayou. It was lovely decoration and it was very dark for us to communication and cannot see the menu too. The menu was very expensive. Our kids refused to eat the meals and the waiter took one price off and it was expensive:scared1:

After that we went around corner and found fish and chips for kids as they enjoyed it as it much cheaper.

I hope I don't put you off as remember it is very popular and thank for Kelly advised us about it but it was not for us. As everyone have different mind.

Oh Deborah, I'm a dunce! It never occurred to me that you would have difficulty communicating in a dark place. I'm so sorry, that was ignorant on my part. :sad2: :headache: I should practice what I preach... Stand in someone elses shoes and see it through their eyes.

She brings a good point up for visitors... it is expensive and not to travellers... Lunch is almost the same menu for much less money.

Woohoo Holly!!! Well done girl - you deserve it, and the upcoming wage rise!!!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Sorry guys, Haunted Mansion is closing on 9/2/08. It won't reopen until the Halloweentime celebration on 9/26 (which means they have soft opening a few days before.)

Holly, love those airplanes pics. I've been missing flying these days. I think as the kids get older I'm reliving my old life...man when Molly hits those teen years watch out!!!!

I was off talking with Paul and my friend Patty for a while, and now while I'd love to stay and chat I'm tired so calling it a night. Check ya tomorrow.:woohoo:

Are you a pilot?

Jan

We really enjoyed Blue Bayou. Quite a different atmosphere, but it could do with some more lighting - perhaps a better light at the tables then the overall atmosphere isn't spoilt.

Whose birthday was it? Our 35th anniversary was yesterday, 8-18-2008.....must be good luck, all those 8's!

We went to Mexico at EPCOT to eat and then to Raglan Road Irish pub at PI. We had a caregiver for Patrick, so it was just Chuck and me! We still have a bottle of chmpagne in the fridge to toast Hurricane Fay with today!

Whoopee!

I read somewhere recently that the average AVERAGE!! cost of weddings these days is around $40K! Amazing!

We ( in the olden days ) 1973 got married at my home church (no cost), paid the preacher, got flowers that were in season, I bought my dress off the rack with no alterations. Rental TUXES. My cousin made the bridesmaid dresses.

It was beautiful! All of my relatives and Chuck's relatives and our friends came.

We had our reception at the local ELK's Club, where my mom and dad were members......we had a buffet and free bar for 4 hours......and a band which was almost free because they were also Elk's club members.

Chuck and I went camping in Rocky Mountain National Park for our honeymoon!

What fun we had when we were youngsters.........:hippie: :hippie: :cool1: :cool1:

Dr's appt went as expected this morning....will be trying out a new combo of meds for the depression....starts tomorrow. We'll see how things go.

Dentist office is closing at 1pm - ahead of the rain that is coming due to Fay. Appt moved to next month.

Now I'm sitting here watching The Young and the Restless and Dising. Rain comes & goes. I just hope that I don't lose power.
