Oh, OK. I'm surprised they could see the characters from the pier.

We were on deck 4 under the forward lifeboat so it was close enough that they could recognize who each one was. I am sure they would have been happier if the characters walked among them, but I would have been worried that they also might have mobbed and overwhelmed the characters. And if the ship was ready to leave and the kids were not ready to let the characters reboard--not good for international relations.

Jan ::yes::

I remember that and it was very emotional for me. I was talking with a kids club cast member whose family was visiting that day and he was telling me that this is the closest that these kids will ever get to the "real" characters. It's hard for me to believe that they'll never go to disneyland. It made me appreciate all of the things I was able to do as a child and the special trips that I can take my daughter on. I was a big blubbering baby that day just watching those kids. The saddest part is that the characters couldn't leave the ship because it would cause a riot with the kids at the pier. Thats unbeliveable to me!

Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

I understand better what you meant by being emotional and also the comment about the characters being mobbed. I was glad to hear from the "handler" we talked to when Donald was out that the characters made trips to orphanages and hospitals in each port.

We can only do what we can do wherever we are.
We can be thankful for our blessings.
We can reach out to others whenever we get the chance. I figure that buying souvenirs and not trying to bargain down too far is a way that I am helping their families. They can think they got the best of a stupid American if they want, but I know that they have more money for school expenses or food if they choose to spend it that way.

Jan :)

I think Gydell should be back from Cabo now, and Connie was back from her cruise last Thursday. They must be busy, but I'm looking forward to hearing about their trips.

I look forward to meeting you (where you say???? hmmmm a little secret is in the air and soon to be revealed...)

Just popping in to say "hey" and wondering where NotSoLittleMermaid is - although I hear rumors she's heading down to Phoenix this weekend!

Hey WOODY!

Does Bubba Grump ever pop on any more??? :yay:

I liked the part of Acapulco out by the resorts... The tour guide we had was very good... The cliff divers were something I had always heard about and finally got to see...

I'm a tourist that likes to see something unique from each place I go to... not always the touristy things.

I agree that parts of the city were pretty old - building wise and sort of run down... but I kind of liked seeing the rest.

Cabo was more resorty...

I didn't like that they dropped you off at the jewelry stores for the excursions... I would have liked to have had more time to wander the cities...

So of course I looked this one up-- (Woody has me trained)

You are my most promising student. "Grasshopper, take the pebble from my hand."

I had to look this reference up too. We never watched that program and the Google search did not yield enough references for me to figure out the significance of the statement except that the grandfather said it to the child he was training. Context was missing. Want to share more insight?
I'll try. You were in training, and becoming proficient. In Kung Fu, the main character was in training when he was younger. When he could take the pebble from the teacher's hand, his training was complete.

This is exactly how I felt. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

We were on the same trip Michelle. I remember everyone grumbling about their similar trips that day, but our guide and driver were very good. However Acapulco did nothing for me. I didn't hate it like Gaylean though. It felt seedy and run down - not the locals' fault, just the end of a great era I think. The vendors were a big pain, though of course their livelyhood is going too as tourists stay away. I felt it was sad.

I didn't like how pushy they were. I couldn't even get a cab because they were trying to talk me into a city tour. It took us 30 minutes to convince the guy to just take us to La Perla. It was super hot and we decided to check out the beach on the way back so we could take pictures. Some guy tried to sell me a bracelet, that I didn't like. He kept going down in price and eventually said, really snotty, "What do want it for free". I didn't even want it for free because I didn't like it. It just seems they were more friendly at the other ports. Plus we are use to going to Mexico and I actually like most of the street vendors and the ones that aren't pushy get more of my business. And I rarely talk them down in price because I know that's how they make their living.

Good morning everybody!
I came into work early for a trial, and of course it still hasn't started yet, and I've been here for 3 hours already:eek: only 9 or so hours to go. Oh well, its a legitimate excuse to check out disboards. :lmao:
And I had to take a cab in this morning because my van's in getting the wipers fixed - I didn't think of it yesterday:confused3 , but its getting fixed at the dealers, so I should have asked them for a demo car to drive last night

I painted the front landing and down the stairs a nice soft sagey green last night - poor Ken, its much greener than he thought it would be. He called it "dis-green" when it was still wet, but it dried much more subdued. This little project started as just re-doing the floor, but then we added in painting the bottom off of the stairs, and now that's done and the top half and trim all look crappy, so next week I'll start painting those, and then we'll finally lay the flooring down. Today Ken's going to order the new kitchen cabinets :cool1: :cool1: So in a couple weeks, we'll be demolishing the old stuff.
Now I should get back to work. Hopefully, I can take a break later in the day and check in again. This place is such a nice sanity break!:hippie:

:cheer2: For DIS green so you don't forget us!

Hey, guess what. This is the first week EVER that I've been on time to work every day that Tyler's with me! I'm always a bit late because it usually takes soooo long to wake him. But every day this week, he's hopped right out of bed when his alarm goes off, all smiles! And that's even after the whole day in the hot sun at the fair yesterday! AND he stayed up an hour later than usual last night! :yay: It's truly amazing!

So he needs less sleep and one of the side effects is sleepiness :confused3

We were among the did not like Acapulco crowd. We just did not like the "feel" of it. :confused3 Automatic weapon armed private security guards at the store fronts kind of made us uneasy and it just seemed very crowded and not clean. We did not see that at the other Mexican ports.

I forgot about the guns :scared1:

Haven't forgotten you all! First thing I thought of when I heard about the earthquake was all of the Cali WBPC cruisers. Glad everyone is safe and that it wasn't any worse than it was!:goodvibes

Donna

Hello. I'm glad to hear from you. How are you and Harry?

You are so smart. I love you and I hope your day isn't too horrible. I can't say anymore because I know it won't help but   :lovestruc :grouphug: :flower3: :love2: and this never hurt either :drinking1

I love you to sweetie. And thanks for thinking I'm smart. Sometimes I wonder.:upsidedow

Today, Teri, my office assistant and I went to the El Mercado for lunch. I just had ribs and chips and quac. So yummy.
Thanks for  :lovestruc :grouphug: :flower3: :love2:

Work being crazy and my office having a revolving door for everyones questions/problems is keeping me very busy, so no time to dwell. I am getting of tired of hear "V I need your help"

I plan on :drinking1 when I get home tonight. At least a shot anyway. Maybe we will practice some margarita recipes tonight.

That sounds good. I thought the cream sickle one sounded good but I can't remember what was in it now. I'm sure you don't have all those ingredients just laying around. Which ones were guys thinking about?

I hope work dies down soon. Eventually, everyone will like the new computers and they will be easier for everyone.

I look forward to meeting you (where you say???? hmmmm a little secret is in the air and soon to be revealed...)
