come over anytime Friday, or Saturday....we always have food around here.....my mom calls our house the Quick Motel......everyone is welcome!

Wish we could - perhaps next year?? Quick Motel!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I hate green beans but I like the casserole :confused3 But most of the stuff that I make on Thanksgiving I don't like. I do like turkey and mash potatoes and gravy.

My most favourite meal is Christmas dinner, though any roast dinner would do. Turkey, roast potatoes, mash, carrots, sprouts, chipolata sausage and bacon, stuffing, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy. More different veg if possible.:yay:

Of course with roast beef we have Yorkshire puddings.:yay: :yay: :yay:

I love veggies.

Ya still can't beat a friend of mine who decided to "surprise" his wife with a skylight in the kitchen that she had been wanting... He dropped the ceiling 4 days before the family was arriving for Xmas dinner...

I believe she also got some nice Jewelry for Xmas that year too... :rolleyes1

Now that is the sort of thing John would do, minus the jewellery.:lmao:

Hi Steve,

Ditto too!

I missed coming on here last night, but I just zipped through all the pages and I've got the key comments ready, so here it goes!

Steve - Happy Birthday! Glad you had a nice celebration with your boys.:)

We are definitely interested in a reunion trip to DL. Sept works better than Feb, but Ken's already stated on here that we can make either work!
Thank you too Shannon, I hope someone will keep me informed of the DL Reunion so I can pop in to see everyone.

Less stress and you get to celebrate for 8 days...

& less cookies too...

Less stress??? Try two boys who want a gift every night and try making potato pancakes for a while!:scared1:

I met a woman from Chicago who had the lapband surgery done in March and she already lost 80 pounds! Does anyone know anybody who has had this done? Connie

Well, I have a friend who is a nurse practitioner and she had it done last october and has lost around 80 pounds or so. She has really done great.

She really is encouraging me to have it done. If I follow certain procedures, it would be covered by my medical insurance. I asked my doctor about the surgery, because I really value her opinion. She told me that I am a great candidate for weight loss surgery but she thinks that a gastric bypass would be better for me. She explained that the lapband patients don't lose as much weight usually as those with the gastric bypass. As overweight as I am, she thought that gastric bypass was a better option.

I tend to think that the lapband is better because it is completely reversible. I don't know why this appeals to me but it does.

She wants me to wait until the trial and all that mess is over, but if that drags out for a long time, I may try to shoot to have this done in Christmas 2009. That will give me plenty of time to think about it and try to diet on my own before taking a drastic measure like surgery.

I had the RNY (gastric bypass) and my ex-gf had the lapband. Both are good depending on what your insurance will cover. PM me if you would like more details or have specific questions.

Ok, way to late for me to still be posting again and trying to catch up on 30 pages in 2 days. I am off to see "Wicked" again this Sunday (b-day present for a friend) and taking the boys to the woods for T-day with the rest of the family.

Please keep me in the loop when a DL reunion is actually planned so we can join everyone.

Have a great T-Day and don't get stuffed worse than the bird!

No Green Bean Casserole ... Ever!

Good Morning All Carbon Based Life Forms (and Nan)!

I think winter might be here ... it's 17F right now. It is supposed to hit a high of 30F today.

This is really not typical weather for November and I wonder what the winter will be like. I think it's going to be a tad nippy while I'm waiting for the bus this morning.

I was right about my prediction about work yesterday. It was awful.

I was down 4 people. Two had the day off. One could not work because her grandfather took a turn for the worse and is dying. And one of my pups threw up, was running a fever and I had to kick him out and send him home.

I had 3 people left and we are now at the end of our runway for the major project I've been shoving through.

I was a tad stressed yesterday, because I had to keep the 3 remaining, laser focused on meeting deadlines, while I picked up the work of the other 4 plus my own work, while being pinned in meetings all day.

I sat in meetings with my laptop, sometimes doing 3 jobs at one time, plus trying to pay attention and contribute to the meeting.

On the more amusing side, my neurologist has changed my medication for the whole stale cigarette thing I've got going. One of the possible side effects is increased irritability and aggressiveness.

One a scale of 1 to 10, I'm already probably a 10 for both. I mentioned the side effects at a meeting and you should have seen the look of terror that came over people, trying to imagine how I could possibly become more irritable and aggressive than I already am.

I have been described as everything from a bully to a small creature that looks cuddly but is really vicious and nasty.

I keep telling people that I'm really easygoing and laid back when I'm not at work, but nobody believes me.

Still, when I was asked to "get my arms around" the failing project from hell, we were going to miss our December 1st deadline by about 3 months. Now we are on track to deliver on December 1st and we only had to put in about 4 hours of weekend work just once to accomplish it.

I suppose bullies and small nasty creatures have their place.

I am so happy that the weekend is here.

:yay: Deborah, congratulations on your new TV! I think mine is only 19inch, so I'm very jealous! ;) We hardly ever use it though, so it's not worth me buying a bigger one.

Ian, holy crap you've got lots of bad stuff going on today. Sorry your day already stinks. Here's hoping it goes quickly for you so you can relax a bit over the weekend. Try to stay warm! We're the same temps here today and our Christmas parade is tonight. Brrrrr! Tyler just called me to talk about it and I told him to make sure he dresses very very warm!

So, is it the green beans that are a problem, or what is done to them in turning them into a casserole?

We love green beans. To be honest we like all veggies I think.

We are always surprised with the lack of veg with meals in the US, even though the shops have great ones for sale.

I'm in a birthday state of mind. I saw another mickey necklace while birthday shopping and kept thinking about it and just had to have it. It's coming today.

It's still birthday week isn't it....and since my birthday and Mickey's are the same day.....it seemed like the right thing to do.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

At least you aren't 80 like Mickey Deb!!! You continue enjoying your birthday week!

I love green bean casserole....then again, I love most veggies....even brussel sprouts.....just not zucchini.

Being Greek, we put lemon on all green veggies including green beans. Add a little butter, lemon, garlic and onion powder and veggies are delicious.

Well Tom is coming up in two weeks to live here. He's hitching a ride with the kid. The kid is going on a RC cruise with his mom and her side of the family. Before they take off, they're stopping at Sandi's and doing Turkey Day all together. The kid and his mom are driving back after the cruise and Tom will come up here with them. That worked out very well, timing wise.

I'm about 3/4 of the way finished with all the forms for registering him into school again. I'll get that done today.

I talked to Joe yesterday and he said that as they were pulling out of the driveway last year to go to FL, Tom said he was going to come back and live with us and get back into his desel program at school and marry his girlfriend, Deanna. Joe said that's all he wanted and he's been talking about getting back up here since they left. I think he'll do fine because he'll like what he's doing when he gets here. He'll be with his girlfriend again and us too. Plus we'll give him lots of attention and love and we we'll treat him fairly. That's got to count for something.

Just want to say a special thanks to Kathe, Connie and Michelle for being so supportive and understanding about Tom coming here. Your words of encouragement really did help. Thank you so much for caring.

Ian - it is a pain when you have to get work done like that, but I also find that when the day is over and you get it back on schedule like that it is pretty pleasing to oneself. I do like the euphoria you feel "when a plan comes together".

Deb - please enjoy your birthday week. My father firmly believes in the Alice in Wonderland song "Very merry un-birthday" concept, so I'm sure celebrating for a whole week - oh heck a whole month - isn't too bad.

Michelle - this could be almost as bad. I have family arriving on Dec 21 for Xmas and we still have to rip apart the living room and put down new laminate flooring - after we finish the kitchen. I think it's going to be a busy weekend and of course this weekend Shaelyn is having her birthday party with her friends (who wants to go skating with 12 6-7 yr olds?). And of course this weekend is the big party here in Canada - It's Grey Cup weekend (that's our version of the superbowl). We usually go but with the kitchen this year that ended that idea pretty quick.

I see Shannon has been slacking with posting pics of the kitchen so here is the latest incarnation for those that are interested:

Should be ready to take the new stove out of it's cardboard home today and put it into place. Going to put all the doors on the cabinets today as well and perhaps get ready to install the OTR microwave.

It is the notion of green bean casserole and the connotations of it. It would go well with plastic slip covers, shag carpeting and a painting on black velvet of dogs playing poker.
