Kyle has a very large blockage in his UPPER airway. It looks like we only have 2 choices. Our 1st choice is that Kyle would have no surgery and live with a trach tube. The 2nd choice is a very delicate surgery where they will open the blockage, they will insert a stent (a piece of his ribcage would probably be used if need be). He would be trached for approximately 3-6 months during the recovery and follow-up procedures. He will also not be able to swallow very well which could lead to a feeding tube. He won't be able to talk w/the trach for about 6-8 weeks while the stent is in. The 1st phase as we understand it would mean being in Cincinnati for about 2 weeks. Kyle would be hospitalized for about 7-10 days then we will have to travel back and forth for follow-ups.
So, we will ask each of you for your thoughts and prayers as we maneuver our way through yet another bump in the road, seems like our road gets bumpier! As we get closer to a decision of time we will let you know what is going to happen. Right now we have a lot of questions to ask before we move forward.
Love, Kathleen (Kathy) and David
