Yup, and I am going to have to be the MEAN MOM! WAH HAH HAH (that was an evil laugh) I'll get her back! :maleficen

I think my mom is paying me back now. :stir: She use to tell me she wished my kids were as bad to me as I was to her. She IS just as bad :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If so, she was mighty busy!

If I told my mother I was bored, she would say, "You're bored? Go bang your head in the wall, then you won't be bored."

(Unfortunately, I am probably giving a false impression of my mother. She was extremely loving and very protective of us. She also read to me every night and is probably how I got my love of books. She also was very proud of and fostered creativity in her kids. She was also extremely funny.

She just wasn't very tolerant and had a tongue that could stun at 20 paces and kill at 10 paces.)

Why do I hear Judge Judy's voice as your mother's? :rotfl2:

You know one of the guys who reports to me (who turned 24 yesterday) assumed that I said "groovy" in my day. I told him that no one said groovy.

However, I did say, "far out."

Oh you John Denver wannabe... ;)

Am I the only person on this board, whose mother, when I did not want to swallow pills told me that I had better swallow it or she would smack me so hard, it would go down whether I wanted to swallow it or not? My mother never coaxed or cajoled us into doing anything.

Some mothers read Dr. Spock. My mother read "The Art of War."

I guess my mom was just a zero tolerance, take no prisoners sort of gal. :rotfl2:

I was raised during the era when Dr. Spock was very much in vogue.

My mother used to say that she did not need Dr. Spock for advice on being a mother, and that the day he gave birth, would be the day she'd start listening to his advice.

The best thing my mom said the Dr. Spock book was for was to swat us on the behind with it...

That and those paddle and ball toys... the one where you had to keep hitting the ball? Until the ball fell off and it got a new job...

That's how my mom was. But we used to have those orange aspirins that tasted so good you wanted to eat them even when you didn't have a fever.

St. Joseph Asprin for Children ..... yummmmmmm!

I also liked Fletcher's Castoria.....a way better medicine that what you had to take for the, um, opposite problem....Kaopectate.

I still say FAB and FAR OUT sometimes....and, of course, RIGHT ON. But then, I also say Awsome Dude! :lmao: and if I really want to drive my sister crazy I say Cha...'cause my pal Crush taught me that.

Well, my family is deserting me for the 4th. Peg, Jose AND the dogs are going up to Flagstaff. Since Peg and Jose each took separate vacations to go visit family, they're having a long 'reconnect' weekend... :lovestruc where the weather is a bit cooler. Hmmmmm....think I'll sneak over and have a bar-b-que at their house while they're gone....

OH....just got my Alltel bill....some nice roaming charges on there. Well, it was still cheaper than calling from the ship! :scared1: AND cheaper than the special phone Alltel wanted me to 'rent' from them and pay to ship back and forth.

Peg brought back some FAB pictures of our great nieces. My, those girls are LAVINOUS! They'll be ready for a visit with Mickey in about two years....better get some more lottery tickets!

OK...done rambling...gotta grab my book and head off to bed.

....later kids.....

Home Sweet Home, A Tour of Lincoln Square

OK, so I had too much time on my hands this weekend. Yesterday I went out and did a photo tour of our neighborhood, Lincoln Square.

As I have said before, I have come to realize that we live in a much more urban area that others here on the board (you probably can't get much more urban).

So, camera in hand, I set out to do a "photo essay."

It was actually quite an interesting exercise, since I tend not to notice much around here. It caused me to look at where we live with fresh eyes.

I had to walk huge distances for this photo essay.

The photographs were all taken in about a 3 block stretch from our house --- I walked all of 1 block south of our house and then 3 blocks north of our house, however, who am I to complain?

We live in Lincoln Square, which is an old German Neighborhood (http://lincolnsquare.org/document/guide_history.php).

So, without further ado, here is a link to the photo tour, I was even particularly industrious and wrote captions for all of the photos:

Hi Ian, I just finished taking your "tour". What a beautiful neighborhood you live in! If I ever make it back to Chicago, I'd love to see it first-hand. I love all the little shops and cafes!

she sounds like my kinda gal :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

ok you know I'm a bit tongue in cheek here.

my dad was the same way, sacred the crap outta me as a kid :(

i try not to be like him, but i'm afraid i am a bit like him of course.

Speaking of moms.......today my mom went in to the doctor's office and they took her blood pressure......239/119!!!!!!!
It's amazing that she hasn't had a stroke; the nurse wanted her to wait to see the dr. but she wouldn't do it, she drove home! The nurse called me on my cell phone when I was at work because my mom didn't answer the phone when the nurse called my mom's house check on her. Well, I called, and mom just didn't feel like answering her phone! :furious:

My mom did that kind of stuff, too, in her later years!:furious:

I was a sophomore in High School that year.......AND we had a dress code!

Oh yes, we had a dress code, too. And a haircut code--no "Beatle" haircuts!:lmao:
