Howdy~
What's the difference between texting on app vs. wave phone. I realize app has the Navigator, etc. just curious about the texting portion.
Cheers!

The cabanas ate a bit pricey on CC. However we have 6 adults and with tubes and snorkel rental and other amenities it offers, is it worth the extra?
Thanks and cheers!

I like using the app on our phones. I was worried we would damage the wave phone and have a hefty charge. Plus I don't see the wave phone as convenient for texting.

I used to have a phone like the Wave phone. On our first and maybe second Disney cruise I was able to text just fine. Then either something went awry with the phones or my memory erased (LOL) but I could NOT make a text happen!

The app is much better *as long as* everyone recognizes that it doesn't alert you, and you often have to open the app all the way up and navigate to the text area and wait, for texts to show up.

texting in the app gives you your phone's keyboard, which is usually a QWERTY keyboard and fairly easy to use.

the wave phones do not have a keyboard. they are like the old old style cell phones where you use the numeric keypad and then have to hit a number a certain number of times to get the specific letter you want. i don't know about you, but that drove me batty when my cell phone was like that...

OTOH, the app sometimes doesnt send a text through right away, so it is important to refresh or even close it and reopen it regularly.

Hard to text on the wave phones. Old school texting with a telephone keyboard.

Composing texts on the app is way easier as others noted. Plus you get Disney emoticons.

Does anyone know if the Club/Lab CM's still only make contact via Wave phones? This was the only reason I carried the Wave phone last cruise, otherwise having my own phone worked better for me for texting others onboard.

Yes, that's still true. I guess it simplifies things for the CMS since some people don't/won't use devices with the app still.

btw, messages showed up on my iphone when sent. Possibly improvements were made when the Wonder was in dry dock? Or we were lucky? But I never had to remember to look for messages within the app. Just hit the button on my phone to see the opening screen every now and then, if I wasn't paying attention to buzzing.

Those wave phones are so nasty, I would never carry one of those around with me. It's like a cellphone from the 90's, those things belong in the Smithsonian. I'm embarrassed for Disney that they still have them. I think we are all in agreement that texting on the app is a lot easier, love the Disney and Star Wars emoji.

Yup still the WP. One of the main reasons being if there was something urgent or an emergency they would call you to make sure they know that you know. And there's no calling through the app....

Still true. My boys usually carry around their iPod with the app on it so they can text me themselves.

Ah-ha. Thanks for the heads up.

DH and I locked our phones in the safe for the week and only used the wave phones. So did my inlaws. The wave phones worked fine for us, although they aren't as user friendly when you're used to using a smartphone.
