Waterproof digital camera

Another vote for the Olympus 850 SW- it's so nice!! I used it in pools and at the beach(took it jet skiing- LOL) and it was awesome- and also takes underwater video!! LOVE it!! I would invest in a "floatable" strap though, we got a brand new one on Amazon for $13.00- so if you do drop it in the water- it floats.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I have a Canon Rebel for my land camera- and I love that one- but the water one is for more "fun" stuff. We have also taken the Olympus when we went snowtubing!!

Now I'm torn between the Canon Powershot D10 and the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000. Anyone know which would be better?

I currently have an older Olympus that doesn't do too bad on outside shots, but isn't fast enough to take kid pictures. I'd like to upgrade before our Nov trip so I was looking for something waterproof.

This is an underwater digital I got from Walmart.com. It was $50 and it is an 5 megapixel. It does come out of the case to be just like a regular camera.

Here is the same camera for sale at geeks.com. It is a vupoint because vivitar has since gone out of business and it looks like they bought them.

I still think that this is the way to go instead of disposables or if you don't want to spend more than a hundred dollars.

Here is a link to another underwater camera thread from last year.....it also has some pictures taken underwater. I bought the Olympus 850 last year and love it. Some of my pics are on this linked thread. The pool pic below was taken with the Olympus as well. I will be bringing it to WDW next week as for some pool shots.

Since the Canon D10's not out yet, it's hard to say. Look at the specs of both and see if one appeals to you more. If not, since you're not going until November, I'd wait a couple of months to see what kind of user reviews the D10 gets.

I can definitely post some D10 shots after my late May cruise. Well I hope I get it in time, so I hope I can!!

I think its a good camera with a great price

I noticed today that the D10 doesn't say 'Available in May' anymore on the canon website. Is yours on its way?

Not that I know of!! I've been searching the internet daily!! I just had a shipping notificiation from Amazon and I was so excited...but it was for something else I ordered and forgot about.

I don't know if I should be excited or scared that Canon took that off their website?

Last week Costco had the Olympus 1050 SW underwater digital camera for $199. I thought that was a good deal and was tempted to upgrade to it....but I didn't. Still love my 850 SW!!!

Okay, I wasn't even interested in buying an underwater camera until I started reading this post 5 minutes ago. Now, I am the proud owner of an Olympus 850! :rotfl2: I just got it for $122.50 on Ebay from the Olympus site. Good Deal??? I hope it comes in before our cruise!pixiedust:

That's me, too! Although I am trying to resist the temptation...

I sent an email to the Canon estore today about the D10. They responded saying they don't know when it will be available. That doesn't bode well. I thought they took off the "Available in May" notation because it is May and should be available....I'm afraid that they are having gliches with the camera and haven't decided to release it yet. Here's hoping it is a good camera, it is cheap, and is available for everybody who wants it before they cruise!

Ah man!! I have heard it was already released overseas (there's several on ebay) so hopefully they're not still working on it. Butterfly photo lists it in stock, but I'm not desperate enough yet to go to a merchant I don't know much about. I've got 18 days!! My fingers are still crossed Amazon gets it in time!!:)

I think I will start dropping hints that I want an 850 for Mother's Day. Maybe I will just buy it and wrap it up for myself.:lmao:

I am purchasing the D10 when it comes out!!! The reason I chose this over the Olympus is because of the SD card. The Olympus doesn't use the universal SD cards, but the Canon does. I want to be able to interchange my camera cards....so I would rather keep them all the same. Hope it is released soon!! Ali

For our most recent DCL voyage last August we added an 850SW to our collection of digital imaging devices. We used it in the Mickey pool, on the beaches and let the kids use it occcasionally since it was impact resistant. Overall - we were very pleased with it - so much so that when the local TARGET store put thier 850SW on clearance for $94 .. we bought another one! In fact... my CRAZY spouse got me to then drive around to several near by Targets to buy up thier clearance stock on this camera... which we in turn gave / resold at cost to a couple of her siblings and a friend of hers' who had expressed interest in it. Plus we kept a 2nd 850SW.... with one now fully dedicated for use by the kids and the other for my spouse to use. And yeah... we were bummed that the 1st model we bought was more or less regular prices at around $250 or so.

And another thing ... the 850SW uses a proprietary memory card sold only by Olympus... an "XD" card. The newer SW models come with an adaptor so you can use micro SD cards in the XD adaptor ... which is nice.

So ... how do we like it? Personally I shoot with a DSLR ... and a "good" quality pocket digicam... and not the 850SW.... so what can I say? Well... I can say that moy spouse is obviously happy with it ... and we are happy knowing this camera model is ideal for handling by kids who can be trusted not to LOSE it or open the compartment doors when it's wet!

Just got off the phone with the Canon rep. (for the Canon D10) The reason they took the May date off the website is because it has already started shipping to stores and should be available everywhere by the middle of the month. Yeah!! I can't wait to get mine!! Ali
