I am still dramatized over our trip to the Waterpark. I just want to have a good time and not be super uncomfortable.

I have planned a tankini top/bottom and board shorts (wow those are not so attractive) and I just bought some TEVAs to try for watershoes.

Where is this body glide stuff people talk about?

What is everyone else wearing to the park?

I am not huge, but just over 2 bills (and currently losing) so any advice would be helpful. :)

My suggestion? Stop worrying. Everyone else is having too much fun to worry about what you are wearing, and you should be too!

To me, board shorts over the bathing suit bottoms would be uncomfortable and hot. Just go with the suit bottoms. If it makes you feel better, get the little skirt bottom instead of the "underpant" look. I worry all the time about how I look in stuff, what people are saying etc...but it's just too time consuming and depressing. I am trying very hard to just get over myself, and I KNOW it's not easy, but at Disney, I really do try and forget about it. It's just too fun a place and there are people there of every size and shape (one of my favorite things about it!).

ITA, just wear what is comfortable for you. At our local waterpark you see anything and everything. I usually feel self concious at first, but after looking around, I feel better. No one else seems to care, so why should I let it ruin my fun? To me the main thing for everyone of any size is to stay covered up!

Wear what you want! I am a petite girl but I have a very good friend who is pooh-sized and her life is passing her by because she would never go to a water park. She is just far too worried about her size. It makes me really sad, she is missing out on some really fun things and life in general. So go out there and have some fun, who cares what anyone thinks? Chances are they are worried about how they look in a swimsuit too!
Body glide is a stick product, like deodorant that reduces chafing and skin rubbing, some also have sunblock in it.

agree....Agree....AGREEEEEEEEEEEE

Go and have a blast!

After seeing people in bikinis and speedos who had no business wearing them around the pools, I no longer worry about how I look in my tankini. Neither should you. You'll be way too busy having fun.

Body Glide used to be able to be found in sporting goods stores and running shoe stores but this year I've been unable to find it. I googled it and now order it on the internet.

If you are in a rush, blister block found at most drug stores will work but it's in much smaller sizes so you have to buy more and it's also more expensive. It does work. I got one to put in my cargo pants pockets and thank goodness I had it when DD9 starting having a "My feet are bugging me" meltdown. She used it and all was well again.

:) We are headed to a water park in a couple of weeks with a bunch of co-workers. I am 5'4" and 226 pounds...I thinkthat qualifies as being Pooh sized. Hell you can look at me and know I am not going to be stunning in a bathing suit....but I do know how to have fun and I have a good personality. So my line of action will be an It Figues swimsuit from QVC ( it is a one peice little dress thingy with cute beads at the straps), terry cloth cover up to match, pedicure, and my new DVC Member canvas bag with my towel and stuff. I will either take our Hummer H3 or Jeep Wrangler for the full effect.:rotfl: I hope that makes you smile. There will aslways be peolpe smaller and larger than you....oh well....are they going to be at the wave pool in Walt Disney World talking about you behind your back....I don't think so becasue you probably don't do that to other people.

However there are certain fabrics and swimsuit styles that are not flattering...those are the people I feel sorry for (big and small)...but I know I will be apprpriately dressed for my size. Have a fantastic time and stop worrying......

I tell my DS that the waterpark is the great equalizer - not many folks look that great after a day in the slides.

Go have fun. Just wear what you are comfortable in.

You are an awesome person -- I wish you lived closer we could hang out! You really did make me smile, and I know I am being a drama queen for nothing. I just REALLY dont want to get the chub rub again! Thankfully DH loves me no matter what!

I will also add that if you want shorts to pull on over your bottoms, you might be more comfortable in a pair of nylon athletic shorts, like Nike or Adidas, not the long board shorts. It also helps that they dry quickly. I have a friend that has always worn these over her swimsuit and they actually look fairly nice without looking like you are swimming in your street clothes.

Just reading...I was wondering..which bodyglide product/size is better? they have the liquid powdery stuff and the stick one..
Not sure which would be best to use..and get the most for your dollar..since it is a little pricey(but worth it).
Thanks.. as I have me and a little Pooh sized cub..lol

We've gone to the water parks several times and I wore board shorts the first year.

The board shorts caused my inner thighs to chafe and the anti blister stick melted away. DH and DS had the same problem. IThe wet material sticks to the skin and with all of the walking, just isn't a good combination.

The next year, I stuck with a skirted bottom and it was much, much better.

After the first 80 year old man in a Speedo walks around the corner (or bends down in front of you, like in my case :scared1:), you'll feel completely at ease.

Buy the monostat anti-chafing gel if you can't find the bodyglide. It runs about $8-$10 and works great. You can find it almost anywhere (in the female products aisle), like Target and Walmart.

I agree that wearing shorts that aren't the bathing suit type will give you a rash in the heat in no time and then you will uncomfortable for days after. Use the chafing gel on your inner thighs if you are planning on wearing shorts-this works especially well after the water rides too.

By the way, just wear what you want. I am very self-conscious too and I've found that nobody really cares in Disneyworld. Besides, when are you ever going to see these people again anyway?

The Disney waterparks are the most diverse group of bodies found in one spot.

There are heavy people, skinny people, REALLY heavy people, REALLY skinny people, old people, young people.

It's so non 'show offy' and all families that it's really hard to feel uncomfortable there, KWIM?

I only ONE time saw a girl who I went "Who let her in here??" body. :lmao:

ETA - Not a "Yuck, ewww - who let her in here? body. It was a "I can see thru her white bathing suit and her smoking hot body" who let her in here. ;)

Relax... I swear it's okay. :)

Also, if you stay near the water slides there are also the occasional topless people......

Another idea to feel more comfortable in a swim suit is the little swim skirts with elastic waist that you can wear over a regular swim suit. I am more self conscious about my chunky legs than I am about my top so I wear the skirt whenever I am walking at the beach. They are made out of the same material as a swim suit so dry quickly if they get wet( think they would even let you wear them on a slide). If you can get one the same color as your suit, it sort of makes you look slimmer than if you break up the body with a different color.

I am pooh szed and I prefer a swim dress to a tankini at water parks b/c a takinin tends to ride up on the slides for me, and i have problems keeping everything I would like covered covered. The swim dress is al one piece and I have a very nice oen I got at sears that even covers my rear!
