Waterpark Wardrobe for Pooh Sized People

I have a 1 piece swimdress and it doesn't look awful! My DD can't wait to go swimming with me and that's all that matters to me! I could care less about what anyone thinks.

I have worn jersey knit shorts in the past and those were okay, just took long to dry. I usually like to wear a T-shirt over my suit, so I thought, why bother with the suit? It wasn't bad, but kind of soggy.

Anyway, please don't stress over it. Life is too short (like a PP mentioned). You NEVER want to be thinking about the "what ifs".

Good luck and have a WONDERFUL time at the water parks :goodvibes

Definitely don't worry! It's not a place where you need to be overly concerned. Maybe it's the Disney Magic or something, but I've never seen anyone made to feel uncomfy at any park b/c of their size. My mom just got awesome suits at Fashion Bug in the plus section and they had really great cover ups too. I always wear a tankini and while I'm not Pooh sized, I'm definitely not Gisele Bundchen either. ;) Nor would I want to be thankyouverymuch, but I find tankini's (the ones with the cute shorts) very comfy and they cover up everything I got when I had my daughter 12 years ago that didn't seem to go away. Hmph! Either way, have fun!!!

I hope that this isn't too far into the thread for you to read...
I am a big guy and very sensitive about taking off my shirt in public. I don't do it at home, and don't do it at the beach, etc...

On our first family trip to Typhoon Lagoon, we went and the wife brought along my trunks. We got ready to part ways (her and the girls, and me and my son) by the changing rooms. She handed me my trunks and I declined. Literally that very moment, two guys that weighed 400lbs or more each walked by in speedos! Talk about comedic timing!!! :rotfl:
Since that time 8 years ago, I have never had a problem taking my shirt off at a Disney water park.

I hope this helps you be more comfortable. I know how you feel.

That is an awesome story! Good for you! :thumbsup2 I hope others do read this and find some comfort in themselves and being at Disney in the water park. :goodvibes

Target has some great pooh-sized tankinis as well as one-pieces. Last year, I wore my brand new tankini with skirted bottoms. While I was happy with how it looked overall I agree with others, the belly did roll up significantly whenever I bobbed around in the water. I guess it wasn't too much of an effort to pull it down, whenever I rose out of the water, but it was always on my mind, which took away from some of the carefree I was going for. Next trip I think I'll buy a one piece with the dress/skirt overlay. Funny, I almost wish I still had my maternity bathing suit. If only it wasn't maternity - it was perfect! :rotfl:

But I will say that I definitely feel more comfortable at Disney in a bathing suit than local water parks or pools. Disney is all about families, for the most part.

I buy great suits from Lands end. They have a mix / match line - I like the swim shorts - mid thigh and the mini skirt - They have great supportive tops as well. I always order a bunch of suits - try them on at home and then return the rejects at Sears ( carry Lands end now ). Super comfy / attractive and they wear really really well.

I totally 2nd this. I love the Lands End Mix-n-Match suits. I got a brown mini skirt and a green print tankini top with underwire bra. My measurements were rather odd, so I called the Lands End toll-free number and the consultant helped me to pick the correct sizes. I was able to order the skirt in one size and the top in another size. Because I am fair-skinned, I also ordered a matching green rashguard to wear over the top. To avoid the "rolling up" problem that wickywinn referred to, I ordered it 1 size larger. Right now, Lands End is having swimsuit sales with really great prices.

Emmaleigh, I totally understand your concerns. Up until last year, I was very self-conscious about going out to a public pool or waterpark in my swimsuit. But my kids were so disappointed in my not joining them, that I decided to set it aside and just go have fun. As a PP said, when are you ever going to see these people again? Get a nice suit that fits you well and in which you feel comfortable and hit the parks!

Go to the waterpark and have a wonderful time! No matter what size people are, everyone feels uncomfortable walking around in a swimsuit. Try to find a suit that works for you. Like others have said, Lands End has GREAT swimsuits that are flattering to all shapes and sizes!

DH and I love to go to TL. BUT I don't like wearing a swimsuit (or anything low-cut) because I'm VERY self-conscience of my open heart surgery scar that starts at the bottom of my neck and goes to my navel! I swear EVERYONE stares at my scar but DH (& my family) says I'm being paranoid and that no one is even looking at me! But I try not to think about it too much and have a great time at my favorite waterpark w/ my family!

(I still think people see my scar and wonder what happened to me!)

Be somewhat modest, be most importantly be comfortable.

Like the others are saying there are all different sizes and shapes at the waterparks...and you will see all the body types in some type of tacky speedo during your visit.

You DO NOT want to get any type or rash between your legs from walking around so you might want some good swim shorts plus some regular shorts. If you get rash it will hurt so bad and walking around the parks for the next few days will be terrible. So protect yourself. Get some cream, or go for the swim shorts plus your others.

I am Pooh-sized and I say GO FOR IT. Who cares what other people think. If all they can do is comment on what you look like then they just wasted $45 since they should be having fun and not carrying what you wear. My friend was afraid to wear a suit so I went out and bought her one with the built in skirt (adorable). She was reluctant but once she saw there were a lot of people bigger then her and no one was looking she began to enjoy it. You aren't going to see any of these people again.

If you are concerned about being Pooh sized, don't worry. Because, you will be in the Hundred Acre Wood with plenty of other Poohs. :goodvibes I have never heard a rude comment made to anyone about their size or shape while at the water parks.

If you really think about it, aren't body builders just as self concious about their appearance?

the only thing I'd worry about for any woman is something that has a high risk of falling off - like string ties.

I agree almost all of the women and men of all sizes are going to be caught up in worrying about their own apperance. Everybody feels the same way.

I also don't suggest any person expose well, too much - like Speedos or g-strings, as it's a family place. I don't suppose that's what you had in mind.;)

Go. Have Fun!:wizard:

Everybody saying "wear whatever, it's so much fun that no one will care" are either blind, not human, under exaggerating, or lying. Yes, people do care. People dont care if your overweight, most people are. It's how you choose to dress. Some people are not made to wear a bikini, and they can't accept it. No one will ever give you looks for your weight, as often people are having too much fun to notice such things. However, if you wear something crazy, people will be sure to notice. Thongs (have seen it), speedos (gross), really hairy men who don't trim or shave (I gagged once), etc.. all gross at the water parks.

I have seen people go fully clothed to the water parks and it's quite funny. I have seen women wear a bikini with stilettos and chains and it was quite naughty, I have seen men who need either put a shirt on or learn how to trim that back hair. HECK, I have seen little girls run around with their tops off (I guess their parents forgot that Disney World is in AMERICA :sad2:) Th Disney water parks are unique because so many diffrent cultures are there, and because of this I as an American find some of the attire to be a little...bizarre. You'll be fine though, going there your either have fun where you won't notice, or when you do notice you will see that you look better than most of the people there, lol!!!

In your case, I think what you are wearing is fine. Imo, modestly is best. It's how I dress, and how I wish others would dress (at the water parks). No one needs to see everything. I'm a guy, and I was stressing over it, and I ended up going in board shorts and a smaller size shirt I had. Because it was smaller it looked like the wetsuit shirts, lol. I am so not someone who flaunts what I have, and honestly I wish others wouldn't either, lol.

Summery - DON'T STRESS!!! Put some thought into what your wearing and go towards the modest side of things (but not too modest). Even a little thought can make a big difference. Once you get there you'll have a ton of fun and not care at all. You're worrying too much, you'll have fun.

I love the title of this thread. I never thought myself to be pooh sized. I guess I am pooh sized after a lot of honey ... oh does that make me sweet? :rotfl:

Anyway .. I too had anxiety over a swimsuit. I had first purchased a two piece that seemed to cover all of my in the fitting room mirror, but some how when I got home, the top kept riding up. Maybe there is some sort of gravitational pull in the fitting room that kept it down. :confused3. Anyway after many returns and finally getting one that fits, a little snug in the belly, but I call that tummy control. I told my husband ... I have come to the conclusion that nothing will make a fat girl look good in a bathing suit but a miracle.... I don't see one of them coming my way. And yes everyone is right ...I will never see those people again and I just want to have fun.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Another example of becoming Florida oriented but not at a waterpark.

Last year we had family come to see us. The couple were in their 50s staying at his boss's condo in New Smyrna on the first vacation he had taken in 20 years. His boss forced him into going. <g> I had never spent much time with my niece's husband(my niece is only 3 years younger than me) . He is a skinny truck driver. We spent one day on the beach with them. He wore his boots, jeans, and a black button down shirt(white undershirt under it) to walk on the beach. Would not even take off his shoes. Well, we planned a free day for them at the Disney parks. Met them at the MK at 9AM. There he was wearing a tank top and he had gone to Walmart and bought some SCISSORs . He was wearing crooked cut off jeans! Still had on his boots and socks, but he was ready to go! Greg had never worn shorts in his life! I am sure some people thought he looked a little strange that day, but he had the time of his life. So don't worry about what you think other people will think. Just have the time of your life!

I wear my big dog swimming trunks... I do it for me... I am "pooh sized too! (BTW I Love the title of the thread too. ) I am on a new life plan as well. I do not want my "issues" to spoil my fun.
I have to share my favorite quote from Eleanore Roosevelt that I say to myself over and over... " No one can lake you feel inferior without your consent."
And congratulations on your new life (weight loss journey)... I am right there with you.
Peace,
Carla Rae

Ahhh thank you for the support! This thread has really made me feel much better -- and I will be saving it to read again when it is closer to the trip. I still have not quite found the perfect outfit ---but to the person who said about the fat girl swimsyuit and miracle --- AMEN sister!

I always find it funny that we dress to hide fat -- really like I am fooling someone because really underneath my clothes I have a rocking body!
