For those who are cruising now/cruised recently, how was the water temperature at CC?

In January of 2008, it was cold, but still "swimable" and "wadeable" for brief times.

In March of 2010, it was soooo cold we could barely dip our toes in. It was also VERY VERY windy the day we were there, so maybe that made the water feel colder?? :confused3

What can I expect for Feb 10-13? The kids would really like to snorkel, but I haven't told them either way becuase I'm worried about the water temp.

I really wish Disney would just make CC climate-controlled. Now THAT'S an idea! A perfect 80 degrees, water temps nice and warm, always sunny.... LOL!!

It supposedly is close to the same temp year round. I don't know. I do know that in May of 09, it was very cold to me. Maybe I'm a wuss, but it was very cold. Disclaimer: There was an overcast all day and it rained while we were there.

We were just at CC on Jan. 21 and it was also very windy. They cancelled all the excursions. I agree the wind makes everything feel colder but the water was also VERY cold. I am from Ohio so do not mind cold weather. I had to do the Pelican plunge slides since I have never done them before so did get in the water and it did get a little better once you got in but if you looked up and down the beach the only people in the water was kids. No adults except for adults with their kids for Pelican Plunge. There were some people snorkeling but not very many. The bikes were a hot commodity that day.

We were there Jan 21 too. I did not mind the water at all. After Ds7 got out he was really cold.

The wind was a pain. Kept pushing my inner tube the wrong way. The cast member said to try the thinner floats. Since it rained I never got round to it. Sad I didn't get to parasail and feed the stingrays disney style.

Really? In my head, I had it all set up that the water would be warmer in the summer and colder in the winter. I came thisclose to rescheduling this cruise for the beginning of the fall just so the water would be warmer. I'm glad I didn't! Especially since we sail NEXT WEEK!!!! :woohoo:

I know what you mean. I'm from the UP of Michigan, and I'm used to the cold. I have thick skin, so I knew the water was cold!! :) Here's a silly question....when you do the slides, does your head go under water? I have this crazy fear of my head going under...:rolleyes1

Thanks Rob! I'll check it out now. And probably several more times until the cruise is here! I tend to get a little obsessed with weather!

What temp is "warm" water? I know at a pool, the water for swim meets/lap swim is around 80, and that feels chilly to a person not exersising/swimming fast. The kiddie pool is around 90, which is like bath water. So what would be warm water on CC?

Yes. Your head definitely goes under water. The distance from the bottom of the slide to the water is high enough and you are going fast enough that I do not believe you could keep your head up. But you come up real fast so nothing to worry about. You will love it even with the cold water!!! I did.

I would have done it more but they shut it down when the rain came at 2:00 PM and we headed back to the ship. I still had a good time. Stealing a saying for golf. A bad day at CC is still a lot better then a good day almost anywhere else.

I was at CC on January 22 and the water was COLD! It felt close to the water at home (from PA). It was also windy and that did't help, so we just sat in the sun that day.

I wonder if it rains often. 3 posters mentioned rain while they were there.

We were there on January 14th of this year. It was overcast, cold and windy. The water was frigid, and this is coming from a Canadian :lmao: Our kids went in about waist deep and like the other posters, the only people I saw in the water were kids. My daughter lives for water slides, but even she wouldn't go on Pelican Plunge because the water was so cold. We'd like to visit again during a warmer time of year, because the place is absolutely stunning and we'd really love to swim and take full advantage of everything that's offered.

looks like avg water temp only 70 in Jan and doesn't get into the 80's till May/June

Actually, the record low water temperature in the region is 73. We were on Castaway Cay on January 2, water was 75, but the air temp was also 75, so it felt cool getting out, warm when you were in.
So for some it will seem cool, certainly no where close to frigid. My cousin's in Canada declare an opening to swimming season in the lake when the water hits 60.....and my doctor told me I had to keep my spa at 90 degrees or less.

We were there this past Saturday and I woukd think it was 73. It was overcast, but the water felt comfortable..but then again I'm canadian. I don't think it gets any colder in February.

We were there on a 3/10 cruise (I think it was 3/11-3/14) and it was SO windy that it made it seem cold. I remember being on Serenity Bay covered with a towel because it was FREEZING!! lol

I was there Jan 25th and the water was freezing! Only a few people in the water, but it was a perfect day on the beach.

The water definitely took some getting used too. If you are interested in snorkeling, the water actually was warmer further out. We were there last Friday, 1/28.
The hardest part was getting out--dry off quickly!

I'm pretty sure that the coolest water temp at Castaway Cay is still warmer than the warmest California surf. If you want to know what cold water is like, try snorkeling in Lake Tahoe :lmao:

Well...as true blue Floridians go...

we always go to Castaway Cay in September...the water is just fine...

Last year we decided to go in October...well... none of us were in the water for long...
