Water Rides in December

Curious as to these are a good idea! We will be going Dec. 4-10, and am a bit worried about riding the water rides (Splash Mountain, etc..) during this time. I know you can get very wet on them. Any opinions or personal experience?

It just depends on the temp that day. You can get some very warm days in December, and you can get some very cold days.

Hi HollyJolly,

December weather can be fabulous - last year it was a warm 80+ degrees while I was there. Saying that - I've been on Splash Mountain when it's been freezing in march - if you sit in the front of the log you will get wetter - putting on a Mickey poncho is going to keep you dry. By far the wettest ride at WDW is Kali River Rapids - you will get very wet on that ride depending on how you go down the last couple of slopes. Take a change of clothes - if it's cold out - I would pass on this ride. Have fun either way!

I believe they can adjust the water level and turn off the blasts of water, so that you don't get as wet when it's colder out.

If I don't want to get real wet, I'll wait until the picture is taken and then lean right up against the front of the boat or the seat in front of me and duck down. I don't get too wet then.

Time of day also matters. It can be warm during the daytime and rather chilly in the evening. For us Splash hasn't been a problem in January. As was mentioned, they turn off the added water jets when it gets too cold to help minimize the dampness. Kali we've never done in the Winter. There is a strong likelihood of getting soaked to the bone.

we went over the same days that you are and it was not a real problem. Splash Mtn is never that wet for us and was not a problem. We got SOAKED (as always) at Kali River Rapids but it was not too cool to walk around more (after a purchase of an AK beach towel).

We went last year the 3rd week of Nov and it was too cool to swim. Don't worry about it and enjoy!

I've done Splash Mountain several times in Dec, and it's never been a problem, warm or cold. But then I've never actually gotten wet on it.

Kali River Rapids is another matter. While I've never actually been on it, there is a *very* similar ride at our local amusement. Count on getting drenched, as in four hours later you will still be able to wring water out of your underwear. You don't want to do this in cold weather. Even in warm weather, do it last, wear a poncho, or bring a change of clothes.
