Water Proof Cameras

We own the ugly orange one, it's my son's favourite color AND it's easy to spot when he drops it :-)

We bought a Lumix TS25. It was on sale at Target because it is an ugly orange color. I think it took great photos. My only recommendation is to bring and extra battery and SD card. This picture was taken at Castaway Cay. I think it turned out great!View attachment 80988
What a great picture! Mine wasn't as good, but we didn't have much sun out that day

But on our cruise just previous I got this

Another vote for Panasonic Lumix. We have it and we have a Canon p&s with a waterproof housing. I am curious to see how our go pro compares. I just use iPhone for above ground photos mostly but i'll take the DSLR on this trip.

It was sunny when we were on Castaway. My picture was taking at Serenity Bay in case you are wondering. It does make a difference if the sun is shining or not.

I go with my GoPro cameras. I have an original Hero and a Hero 3+ Black edition. Here is a link for the original Hero on Best Buy:

Standard water proof case goes down to 131 ft. It shoots in 1080p for video.

I was looking at the GoPro but what's keeping me from jumping on it is that there's no way to tell what you're taking a picture of. I don't see a viewfinder. With my luck I'd find an amazing shot, take a pic and then cut someone's head out of the picture or something.

Loving that Olympus from a PP on Amazon. The new version says rated to 50 feet on the video...and it's not out yet, so I put it on my wish list.

We have a little one we found (thought DD had lost it) for our prior trip to PR and while the over the water shots were great, it just had too much of a delay and it wasn't crisp enough so a lot of the underwater pics are murky and caught the fish swimming away. We know we could at least use this to get pics of the kids in the water, though, so at least I have something. :)

I have an earlier model of an Olympus Tough and it worked great. I bought mine at a Best Buy. I have seen them on Costco's online store. Many other retailers also carry various models.

The current models are here: http://www.getolympus.com/ca/en/digitalcameras/tough.html?icn=topnav&ici=camerasnav_tough-rugged Waterproof depths are 50 ft (15m) or 33 ft (10 m) depending on the model.

Although there are obviously limits, the Tough series is designed to be submersible and cold-, drop/impact-, and crush-resistant.

NYIceQueen, That is a drawback that you can get around with the GoPro. They have the LCD Touch BacPac. Yes some of the accessories can be expensive, but you overcome some of the drawbacks. I do a lot of swimming and I will bring my GoPros and I downloaded the GoPro Software to pull pictures from the video and I edit my videos to have compilations with Windows Movie Maker.

That's good to know. Our issue is this will be our first cruise, we live in Buffalo, and I last went to the beach 3 years ago...and before that it was 1997! So unfortunately unless we start cruising yearly (not that I think that would happen at Disney prices) we just don't do enough to warrant all the extras...but who knows? Sometimes you can get good sales on accessories and the like :)

Hi, is it too late to join? Sorry just found out about FE on pintrest. We have 5 grand kids.
I am off too work. And I know this is short notice. So I do understand if too late.
Thanks Ruth love to have fun with your group.

One of the best rated water proof cameras is the Olympus Tough T3-- but it's being discontinued by the manufacturer for a newer version. Maybe some sales possibly if it's discontinued.

GoPro's have a very wide angle lens. They are made so that you generally point in the right direction and you should get everything you wanted in the shot.

The wide angle is kind of what is both good and bad about them. The good is that you don't have to be super accurate with aiming (remember, they are designed for action shots where you don't have time to set things up perfectly). The bad is you get the barrel distortion.

SJCAM makes a nice GoPro knockoff - the SJCAM SJ4000. It has a (tiny!) screen on the back that helps with shot composition. You can pick up a new SJ4000 for around $100 - but be careful, there are knockoffs of the knockoff. If it doesn't say SJCAM on the front, it's either an old model or a copy - either way, don't buy it.

The SJ4000 uses the same mounting setup as GoPro, so there are plenty of accessories.

Let me know if you have any questions.
