Water Park Lockers - Question, New Pricing and Keyless Access?

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I just saw on the Disney website that the water parks now have keyless lockers.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/locker-rentals/

"Each of our water parks features keyless lockers that can be used throughout the day for a one-time charge. To rent a locker, visit one of the electronic kiosks in the locker areas and choose the size you want. After payment, you can select a 4-digit pin number that will open your assigned locker."

So it looks like you no longer have to stand in line to pay a cashier. And you also don't need to leave a $5 deposit anymore. However, the rental prices appear to have increased and I'm not sure whether your locker rental cost is good for all-day access if you hop to another water park.

I'm still trying to decide whether I should rent a locker. I'm thinking that:

1. We'll leave wallets in the hotel room. The park tickets, one credit card, and a couple of $20 bills can go into a pocket and get wet.
2. I'll leave towels, sunscreen, and a t-shirt on a chair. Hopefully nobody will want to steal those?
3. That just leaves a mobile phone... and it seems silly to bring a phone and put it in a locker for $10.

Is there a "phone check" at the parks? Maybe a charging station like they have at MK's City Hall, where I can leave it? If not, I really wish there was! Or even a smaller version of the lockers.

Meh, only a few bucks more than I would usually spend on the locker the old way. It's budgeted. Thanks for the heads up though.

My phone is the main reason I don't go to water parks much. I don't want to rent a locker just for it, but I'm not leaving it in my car, and I don't trust those 'waterproof' pouches people wear around their necks. I used to have a Lifeproof case and I hated it, so that's not a thing I want to deal with either.

We rented one via the kiosk at BB a few weeks ago. It was great! I loved that I didn't have to keep track of a key. The small locker was the perfect size for my small duffel. We had my phone, sunscreen and a change of clothes.

This is funny. I've always talked with friends about how Cedar Point (Ohio amusement park) is so light years behind Disney in many key areas. Abysmal food, terrible service, unfriendly/uncaring cheap young kid labor, filthy water park, and so on. Yet they've had fancy keyless lockers for a few years now. My mind is blown.

Always a good idea to protect your possessions on vacation; don't let your guard down. I highly recommend renting a locker, even if you don't think the cost is justified because you only have an item or two. It is well worth it for the peace of mind. We always rent a small locker for our wallets and cell phones, and I use a Disney gift card for waterpark purchases.

So, personal identification number number? Who's doing the WDW website proofreading? Or is pin not the same as PIN any more?

Disclaimer: this observation is a criticism o Disney, not of the quoted poster!

Has anyone here got away with not renting a locker? I'm disappointed you have to rent them. I know it's Disney... Might just leave all my belongings at the hotel. At least it'll give me a chance to unplug from social media and truly relax.

Opinions? Will someone steal my shorts?

You ask for opinions so here is mine:

I am pro-locker usage. Most people who don't get lockers tend to put their belongings on chairs that they don't use for most of the day while they are running around. That hogs up a chair, which I don't think is very nice. I am a mom who actually likes to watch her child play. A chair, especially in the shade, makes all the difference in comfort and skin protection. We tend to go from attraction to attraction so I only need it for 30 minutes or so at some unknown time of day.

I think it is okay to leave clothes on a chair that is being saved as part of a group while that one person or few people are away getting something like food while other members of the party stay at the chairs or tables. It demonstrates that they are in use or about to be in use.

I also am one who arrives fully dressed at a waterpark. I bring my swim clothes to change into. I also take complete showers WITH soap before leaving the waterpark. I then leave fully dressed. So, it is essential to get a locker. I, too, wish the prices weren't so high. At least the locker protects clothes and shoes from getting wet or lost.

We have been to the waterparks at WDW several times and have never used a locker.

Yes, I have left just towels and change of clothes on a chair before, but then my MB didn't work (this is the year they were first introduced) and we almost couldn't buy lunch. I now don't go to ANY Disney park without back-up cash and a cc, so we rent a locker.

Also.... think twice about leaving money, or anything of value in your hotel room. Just because nothing has ever been stolen/lost on your previous vacations, does not mean it cannot happen the next time. It is your choice of course,
but please don't take the chance over the cost of a locker.
If I did not care about my fellow Disers, I would not bother to post on the subject.

Hmmm. Very good suggestion...
