We will be at FW the middle of May and I was thinking about renting the water mice while we are there. Does anyone know if adults are required to wear a life jacket. Are the water mice fairly roomy or would a larger person have trouble fitting? Thanks for the info. I always try to save a little embarrassment if possible. I will be glad when the weight loss track is over and I don't have to worry about these questions any longer.

Hi! Yes, everyone is required to wear a life jacket in the water mice (they are actually called Sea Raycers now. No more water mice.) You pick your own life jacket from bins that are marked with sizes.

They are made for 2 people and are quite roomy, so you should be comfortable if you ride by yourself.

Have fun!!

As the OP said, yes every adult wears a life jacket. Don't worry, lots of sizes: Adult S,M,L,XL,XXL,XXXL. You'll be fine for room, enjoy! The half hour goes by fast. Don't forget a hat or your sunscreen, or both!

How much is the rental for the sea racers aka water mice? That sounds like fun!

If I remember correctly it was 35 for the half hour when we last rented them I will say with the older ones teh Mercury ones with 2 adults in them they weren't terribly quick a single adult and child would be much better in one or a single adult in each as they only have 9hp motors on them they are a blast to take out though no matter what.

The rate for 1/2 hour is $23.47 + tax. DS17 abd DD15 each had their own Sea Raycer for 30 mins and the total was $50.00 including tax. I think the rate for 1 hour is about $35.00.

Just a note:

The water mice on the Seven Seas Lagoon (the big lake by MK) have 9 horsepower engines.

The water mice on the smaller lakes (like the Caribbean Beach Resort) have only 3 horsepower engines.

Same price for rental.

Rent them on the SSL and kick up a rooster tail behind yourself!

That's a helpful hint, thank you:)

Weight limit is 300 lbs ...

Don't forget that you can get a 15% discount using your AAA card for hourly rental (or at least you could last year!!).

Plenty of room in the boats for us "pooh" sized people. The only problem I had was trying to get out. I rented the boat for one hour and after that time, I was kinda stiff. Took alittle careful manuvering to get out of it, but it was great fun and definitely would recommend trying it.

Ok, maybe this is because I spent most of my time in these as a kid, but has anyone noticed that the "new" water mice (although it's been quite a few years I believe since they changed them over) aren't nearly as fast as the old one's?

I just remember my brother and I judging how good the water mice were by how much speed we could get out of it, and the last time I went a couple years ago, they just seemed a lot slower. Of course, I also weigh quite a bit more....lol

My take is that during the 80's they seemed pretty fast, while sometime during the mid to late 90's they slowed them down quite a bit. I think the newer models, while not as fast as they were from way back (I'm starting to feel old), they are faster than just a few years ago.

I've also noticed that the speed can really vary from boat to boat. Last year we took two boats out from the Contemporary and I had one of the fastest boats on the lake. My Dad's boat was pathetically slow. He took it back to exchage, and his new boat picked up a lot more speed. Thankfully mine still had the advantage by a bit.
