Was Jill Carroll Really Kidnapped?

Just wondering if you think Jill Carroll was really "kidnapped" by extremists or does she have a hidden agenda?

I have some doubts about her situation. I don't think she was kidnapped.

I think that, unless you've got some evidence, the theory that she faked her kidnapping out of some hidden ageny is lunacy - right up there with the idea that the moon landings were faked, or that Elvis is alive.

Nope, no evidence but just a gut feeling. She was well taken care of. Heard on the news that she was concerned about the fact she may have gained weight while in "captivity" as she did not want to insult her captors by refusing food. Sounds more like she was a guest, not a hostage. She was adamant in her video clips when first taken that the US should cooperate and meet the captors demands. It did not sound 'forced" to me.

Looking at the hostages that were released last week, they were not well fed or even well treated for that matter. They looked awful upon their release.

Something isn't adding up here. You are certainly entitled to your opinion however, I stand by my "lunacy".

I think it's Stockholm Syndrome, which leads captives to identify and sympathize with their captors. I also think she may have been treated better than other hostages because she had written about the plight of average Iraqi's due to the war, and because so many Iraqi leaders (including clerics) spoke out on her behalf, saying she shouldn't be harmed.

The thing about her translator being killed also convinces me it wasn't a hoax.

I don't know. I heard a caller on WGN radio say yesterday that they felt odd about her story. I honestly hadn't considered the possibility until then.

I don't see any evidence to support that her story was faked - I guess that unless somebody comes up with something other than a gut feeling, I believe her.

She said she was kept in a darkened room....did anyone else verify this? She keeps saying that she was well treated and well fed; allowed showers etc. Most hostage takers don't give a rats tail about a captives personal hygiene or if they like the food they are being given.

I'm not here to start a war....just wanted to know if anyone else had the same doubts.

Maybe she felt the end justified the means....if she could win the release of female prisoners, it would justify what she was putting her family and friends through. Certainly, stranger things have happened.

I have to say... that the first thing DH said is, "she looks like she gained weight to me! Look at her face!" It does seem odd. And then she has such glowing comments about her "captors." I'm a bit suspicious, but really hope it's unwarranted.

You may not be here to start a war - but we are talking about a real person here, not a fictional character. She has friends and family, communities who knew and cared about her and have been worried sick praying for her safe return.

And you are accusing her of unbelievably vile and despicable acts - all because she gained a few pounds? I'm sorry, but in my book that is way out of line.

These are real people, real family members you are libeling and belittling here.
