Warriors WISHing for Spring!

Ugh.

Hot. And the smoke is back. Bleh.

I managed to run about 4.4 this morning, followed by some intervals (walk 2 minutes + 1 minute hard run) for about another 2.2.

Afterwards I did a nice sprint ride on my "mountain" bike (still flat tire on road bike) for about 10 miles.

Weights this evening before going to teach EMT Class. That's about it!!

Hope ya'll are doing well!

Hi all.

This weeks been a bit of a struggle. During Monday's run/walk I developed a pain in the area between the hip and lower back along the side. I probably should have cut the day short but I didn't. Wednesday went out again and did cut things short, only 2.5 miles. I took 2 days off and went out yesterday. Did a slow 3 miles at recovery pace. It didn't progress to pain but still had some discomfort. It mostly occures during the running and not the walking. So, I'm going to be playing things be ear until it feel better.

Hey hey wonderful warriors!

I hope you've all seen the fantastic news, but just in case: Tracy has the keys to her own home :woohoo::yay: Wanted to wish her all the best as once a warrior, always a warrior!

Sorry I've been away for a few days-nothing too exciting, bit deflated as I still can't shout about any runs.

Amanda I love that you have 'informed' DH of his running plan- the big test will be whether he runs on the day you tell him to! (if it works do share how you managed it :rotfl:)

Jim ergh sorry about the heat and air conditions. Sounds like you have a hard time out there at the moment. In saying that I can't wait to be there in a couple of months!!!

Kathy go you guys for getting into those late stages of training despite all of the hurdles! So impressed! Hope DH's appointment goes ok.

jeremy I hope you've been taking it a bit easier with a new pain. Fingers crossed it's just a random twinge.

Hi warriors

My DH and I just did our Sunday walk of 7.24 miles. The pace was the best I have done for that distance during training at 16.03:banana:. The temperature at 5 AM was 77 degrees but the humidity was 84%.

John goes back to the Doctors on Tuesday and we are expecting the neck collar to finally come off. The Doctor said it was healed:cool1: but wanted a x-ray with his neck flexing. John felt no pain for that so we are really hopeful.. It has been 13 weeks.

Getting excited for DL and the W&D.

Kathy

Hi all

Great news on Tracy and her new home.

Kate - Hope you can shout about a run soon.

Kathy - Great news about your husband. I haven't decided which is better, hot and dry or warm and humid. It's tough to believe it's been 13 weeks. Sounds like your progressing nicely for DL and W&D. Hopefully we can get a chance to say Hi. I may also have a favor to ask you.

AFM - After monday's run with some improvement, I've decided to take a week off to hopefully let things fully heal. I figured it would be better to take the hit in training now then let it linger for several weeks. Tomorrow I'm planning on getting my first training run post hiatus. I'm planning on 1 mile walking, 1 mile run/walk, evaluate for them for the 3rd mile. If everythings OK, I should be able to get my mileage back up fairly quickly.

Good evening Warriors, hope everyone is doing well.

Had to go out for a walk to celebrate the neck finally being free after 13 weeks, 4 days and 2 hours. :lmao: Asked the Dr. when I could get back to bicycle riding and he said, Later TODAY. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Will wait until Saturday before getting back on though.

Went for the walk after dinner and started feeling really good after 2 1/2 miles so continued to increase pace until I completed a 10K. Getting into my Chi Zone when walking makes a big difference and wound up walking the 10K in 1:04.

Kathy is really starting to get into the walking groove. Still has issues caused by the subdural hematoma from the car crash over 4 years ago but I'm betting that she'll be below a 15mm pace by January.

Be careful in the hot weather and stay hydrated.

John - You are incredible! I can't believe that you just walked a 10k in an hour after wearing a neck brace for 3 months. Such an amazing inspiration!!! Feel well!
Kathy - I'm happy to hear that your walking is going well!
Jeremy - It looked like you were the winner on the Extra Mile Podcast Facebook page. That was you, right? Congrats! Hope you're feeling better.
Kate - I can't even imagine your frustration. Feel better!
Jim - I don't think I could train in that weather!

For the record I ask DH (Tom) to give me his 3 training days each week. I posted both of our training schedules on the wall and we cross off each work-out as we do it. He really wants to finish the half marathon so he's doing well. He's still in the pre-conditioning portion of the Galloway training. Today he has to run/walk for 17 minutes and then Saturday is 1.25 miles.

My training is going well. I did a Galloway Magic Mile on Saturday and ran the mile in 9:40. I know there are plenty of people who can run faster than that for an entire marathon but I think that's the fastest mile I've ever run! Or certainly since high school. It was really exciting for me! I know the goal for my 1st marathon should be just to finish but I'm really hoping to break the 6 hour mark. According to the Galloway formula I should be able to do that and better.

As an aside it looks like we'll probably be closing on our house next week! We got the final mortgage approval yesterday (huge sigh of relief!). We've been renting this house for 2 years so no moving!

Amanda

Hi all

Kathy - Was reading your post on the DL half thread. Good job on the increased speed.

John - Great news on the neck break. Nice job on the 10K walk.

Amanda - Nice job on the MM. I've had the same thought about my first Marathon. My current MM is 9:58. So Jeff predicts a sub 6hr Marathon for me as well, But I also know his times are based on perfect conditions.

Yes I am the Jeremy who won the Spibelt from the Extra Mile:Galloway edition. I currently carry a large fanny pack when I need to carry more than 1 small bottle. This should be nicer for races where I have on course water and don't need to carry as much.

I got started back up after my week off on Monday. Did 3 miles Monday and just got back from 4 today. Went fairly well. Speed wise there were just about long run pace. But didn't have any major discomfort. I just need to figure how to get back on plan for DL.

Hey Warriors!!

It's been a few days, reflective of what I do (not) have to report lately.

It's really freakin' hot down here. My runs ( what few there are) are pretty much limited to about 4 miles max. I can't carry enough fluids to go past that. Bleh.

So I HAVE been riding my "mountain" bike a fair amount. It's quicker to get out on than my road bike. Have been doing 14-30 mile rides, depending on circumstances (which translates to: How lazy I feel at the time). I've been trying to keep 16.5 + mph pace. I'm figuring that with the smaller wheels & higher rolling resistance due to the fat tires, that's a good pace to shoot for.

Also been lifting 2-3 times / week. Shoulder is still acting funny, so I'll probably go see a DPT sometime this week.

FORTUNATELY we've been getting some rain, so the fire danger is sloooooowly decreasing. But that just makes it all the more humid to run in.

Guess that's it for now. Ya'll seem to be progressing very nicely. Fall race season is JUST around the (very hot) corner!! Keep at it!

Hey Hey!!!

John that is fantastic news about your neck!!!! It's free :D Hope you're pain free and feeling ok. Go kathy too, with the awesome pace!

Jim brilliant work on the bike! Sorry to hear about the heat, autumn racing will feel easy though after training through all of this heat!!!

Amanda How did the house go? Did you close? How your (and DHs) training going?

me I've been playing on a treadmill again :goodvibes managed to keep it going without too much pain so we might be back on the running train :woohoo: Had a lovely day today, off work as it's my birthday and been rushing around all day. It's now down time....... but I had to pop on here as OUR HONEYMOON TICKETS ARE HERE!!!!! This time in 4 weeks we'll have been in Orlando for 24 hours :cheer2:

Hi everyone! I've been out of the thread for a bit - two trips almost back to back also kept me off the running schedule, so no need to update! :)

I am back on it this week, though, with two 3-mile runs down so far, one more 3- and a 4- to go.

I also signed up for another race this week: Princess 5K. I friend of mine from HS is using this race as a 'goal race' for losing weight, and I told her I'd run it with her, every step of the way, if she signed up. So, I won't be running it for time (for me), but to help her get through it. I'm just happy to get in another Disney race. :)

Hope all is going well with everyone else!!

Hi Warriors,

Glad everyone is doing so well.

Kate a Happy Birthday a little late

The heat in south Florida is also bad but at least we get a little breeze off the Gulf of Mexico. We were at Disney World last weekend and walked Friday for 3.57 miles. John then walked on Saturday morning at 4 am with the deers and did 13.12 miles with an average of 10:18:cool1:. We then both walked on Sunday at 5 am and did 8.3 with a very high humidity. The pace was only a 17.01 but we walked around the campground to Wilderness Lodge and saw more deer and then walked the loop at the campground 3X. We did have alot of off camber areas along with the "hills" (inclines) around the camp ground. I felt good :banana:with all the areas that we walked that we normally do not have at home.

Kathy

Good Morning from the miserable midwest! It's hotter here this morning than at WDW! wish I was there! No real running for me now until after surgery Aug 2. After 4 months of messing around finally an MRI discovered I do have a meniscus tear so it will be repaired the second. I'm a bit bummed about missing the local fall half marathon but will have plenty of time to get ready for Princess in Feb.

I am managing to get work on the elliptical several times a week and doing more strenghtning over all.

Good Luck to those of you that can run in the outside weather! Great racing!

Good Morning Warriors,

Just a quick note. Did 2.69 miles at a 15:36 pace before I have to go to work. The biggest thing is when we were out we heard the sonic boom :cool1:from Atlantis comming down.

Kathy

Hi all

Kathy - I had a chance to see a space shuttle launch one time from Orlando. I was surprised how visible the trail was from that far away.

Pam - Sorry to hear you need surgery. I hope recovery goes quickly.

Amy - Nice job jumping back into running.

Kate - Enjoy your trip to DL.

AFM- I'm almost fully back into the swing of things. A week ago, I did an 11 mile long run. This week I was counceling church camp Sun - Wed. I only officially got a short run in on Monday. Otherwise, it's just been walking / running around with the campers. The camp was paintball so it involved a fair amount of walking/running. We tried to get that done in the morning before the heat started climbing. I was going to run today but I'm having the 2 days after returning tiredness. That seems to be the way when I'm out like at camp. It's not the day after that get's me tired but the day after that. Hopefully I can get it in tomorrow.

Hey Kids!!

Its been a while & I have been somewhat absent as of late. It's the same old Florida summer "it's hot as hell" routine down here. Been mixing up the bike & running lately. No swimming yet. Just cannot seem to get motivated to hit the water. Bleh. Slacker I Am.

Did 1+05 hours on the bike followed by 35 minutes running today for a total distance of about 22 1/2 miles. I'm trying to stick to that routine and add a few minutes on every time. The heat is a real hindrance down here, but I'm too lazy to get out of the house real early, so I guess that's the payback.

Not much else here. I DID pass my FAA check ride a couple of weeks ago, so I am now officially licensed to prowl the nation's skies. Starting work on my instrument rating, which MY DS, who will be IFR rated in a couple of days, will be able to help me with.

Everybody keep cool & stay safe!!

Greetings all! I can't believe how fast the summer is flying by...
We survived record heat last week, despite minimal a/c in our NEW house. I did my runs, including 5.5 miles on Saturday. I'm happy with how things are going. My DH is almost up to 2 miles and plugging along. I'm really proud of him!

Amanda

Hello little warriors!

Amanda congratulations on your new house.... and for surviving in your lovely house with low a/c. Go DH too!

Jim wow you can fly! That's brilliant, good work! Sorry it's so hot, but immensely proud that you're still hitting the bike. Swimming will come when it's ready :goodvibes

Jeremy no stress about feeling tired, I'm sure that's allowed after a camp! Well done for your 11 miler though.

Kathy your walking pace is amazing! Glad you caught the shuttle too.

pam sorry you have a tear- urgh that's been a while before they found it. At least you're still fit though for when you are back on your feet. I hope it goes really well.

me still treadmilling and contemplating trying outside soon. I'm still 3 weeks ahead of where my physio wanted me, but I'm managing the pain so hoping it's ok to carry on. Manically trying to tone my arms before the wedding now :rotfl:DFiance bought me dumbbells for my birthday and everything!!!!

Keep at it heat monsters!!! (Oooh and in 2 weeks and 3 days I'll be married )

"That which does not kill you makes you stronger....."

Isn't that what that German guy Neitzsche said 150 years ago ??

Well, yea, HE'S NEVER BEEN RUNNING IN FLORIDA IN THE SUMMER!!!!!

Moron......................... It hasn't killed me, but I sure as **** don't feel stronger. Whipped, dehydrated, drained, nauseous, tired yes. But stronger? HA!

Ayhoo, enough pouting. I slogged through 6 miles today (run 3:15/walk 1) in an hour this morning. 90º F + 85% RH. Bleh.

I am slowly inching up on the multisport training. 1+10 bike & 40 run for a total of 24 1/2 miles. I would like to get my "2 hour total" to be about 26 miles (20 mph bike +6mph run). Maybe when it gets FREAKIN COOLER I'll be able to stretch the time out more. Right now that is just not happening. In a couple of months hopefully....................

Stay safe (& cool) Warrioirs!!

Kate - Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!
