Warriors are Bustin' Out in June

Amy,

Little D??? She doesn't fit in the stroller anymore. Time to upgrade to a running stroller, don't ya think?

I went out on a 11 miler with the clinic. It was our first bus run of the year. Heat got to me, so I backed off in order to make it to the finish standing up. The rest of my group hammered out 13 miles, but I decided to save it for another day. Hmmm, 13 miles on the bike yesterday = tired legs today.

Hi Warriors!
I had a great weekend. Went to a wedding and it was a major w/o on the dance floor I might add, had a fantastic 30 mile bike ride with a friend and put in time on the trail with Kirby dog.

Jennifer, good luck with the ankle. I do hope it is nothing serious.

Jeff, good for you to know that it is ok to step back. You've been pounding pretty hard.

Amy, good job on the 5k even if it was not a PR. That is a good report. Oooh and beer to cheer you at the finish.

Jen, ugh on those dreams. Hope they get better soon.

Tracy, I'm happy that your ankle is getting better.

Hey Warriors! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Life is being crazy right now, but I'm still getting in an ok amount of mileage. 5 miles and 1:15 yesterday with the Joints in Motion training team - it was a rather hilly trail run with a huge number of stairs down from some bluffs to the beach and then back up again, but a very nice change of scenery and pace. The group leader (and president of the Puget Sound chapter of the Arthritis Foundation) peer pressured us into running up the "stairs to nowhere" at the end of the run and my thigh muscles almost died in the last 5 steps, but it felt really good to do it. I'm rather sad that we only have one more run with the group, because we're finally all getting to know each other and feel like a cohesive group, after 18 weeks.

I am now officially tapering for my half marathon, which is always a good feeling. Still working on the 100 push-up challenge, but I totally failed on day 3 of week 3, so I'm repeating week 3. Oh well, I've never had ANY upper body strength, so this is good for me, even if I don't make it to 100. Also, our "honeymoon" (I say that in quotes because we're hoping to get an official honeymoon where family isn't in the next cottage over) next month involves 2 weeks up at my fiance's (entire extended) family's island of cottages in Northern Ontario, and I'm figuring it'll be a good excuse to start swimming.... I'm hoping to get into triathlons in the near future, but swimming is definitely my weak point. I was on a synchronized swimming team from about age 9-18, though, so hopefully it'll just be a matter of buying an appropriate (ie. not a bikini) swim suit and getting back in to it.

Anyway, hope all you Warriors are having a great weekend. Jim, I hope you bike tires have held their air all weekend. Tracy and Jennifer, hope the ankles are feeling much better. Michelle, hope your husband's Ironman (Yikes!) went fabulously and that you have a safe trip home!

Sarah

Good Monday Morning Warriors!!

Had a good weekend. My Mom and I tried to go up to Cape Canaveral for the shuttle launch and of course when we got up Saturday morning early to head to Spaceview Park we found out it was scrubbed. So we headed on over just to take a looka dn then over to Ron Jons to shop and then headed home. It was a fun little trip even if we didn;t see the launch.

As far as the 100 push up challenge, today is week 2 day 3 for me. So far so good.

Ankle is doing very good, so no complaints there. Did a very, and I mean VERY, sweaty 6 miles yesterday. I think if I had stayed out there much longer someone would have found me as a puddle on the sidewalk!! Talk about elbow bombs and pinky pistols!!!

Sounds like everyone is trying to get in their miles which is AWESOME!!
Keep it up, stay hydrated, don't for get your sunscreen-reapply if needed, spf lip balm and sunglasses!!

Racey Tracy

Amy Congrats on your 5km- in that heat it should def be considered a PB! It's a good job you like beer :)

Tracy really pleased your ankle's doing ok, if a little damp after your last run!

Sarah it's hard to get on here sometimes, but it'd be brilliant to see you every other day :goodvibes Well done for getting those miles in and times too. It seems such a shame that your group will be going their separate ways- any chance of meeting up still for runs?

Lily :banana:for dancing, there is no better way to get yourself moving (in my opinion!). Weddings are the most wonderful things aren't they. I cried.... again at my colleagues this weekend! 30mile bike ride is absolutely brilliant.

Jeff i had wondered the same thing as one of your facebook posters- really do you work? do you? do you? he he

Swim for me today- 40 mins 0.93 miles, bit quicker this week and i managed to leave work on time! yay for me :rotfl:

Hey, two days in a row! But I'm at work (and it's a Monday so my boss isn't here) so it doesn't really count. :lmao:

Kate: Did your boyfriend hear back about that teaching job? I was a teacher in England once upon a time (ok, so I left the job less than two years ago, but it feels like a lifetime away) and so feel like I understand at least something about the system.

Tracy: Yay for the push-up challenge! It's hard, no? Personally, I don't think I realized just how weak my upper body is until I realized that I could not do a single "real" push-up! So, I'm working on my girl push-ups, and repeating some weeks. We'll see how it goes.

Amy: Great race report! Unlimited beer? That's my kind of 5K!

Jeff: I also didn't realize that you could take it easy; glad to hear that you're human like the rest of us! :rotfl:

As for me, I'm trying to decide whether to go for a run or a bike after work today. According to "my" training schedule, Mondays are crosstraining days, but according to the Joints in Motion schedule (which I've sort of been forced to adopt due to the timing of the long runs), Mondays are a 45 minute run. I think I'm feeling the bike, though; I bought a BikeGirl skirt from the SkirtSports outlet a couple weeks ago, and haven't used it yet! Which just feels wrong...

I also ordered two Flip Ultra video recorders (the new 2nd gen ones) for our parents' wedding presents today, and I'm already trying to figure out how I can "borrow" one for marathon weekend in Jan. :rotfl:

Hey warriors!

Sarah--Totally unlimited beer. And it was only 20 dollars to register! I was in heaven! And like I said, it was GOOD beer. They just kept refilling the 20 oz cup you see in my picture!!

Jeff--Little D is totally overgrown! Not surprising though with me being 5'11" and DH 6'2" I have pictures of her in that stroller when she was 4 months old and she looks so so tiny! I actually am in the market for a really really good jogging stroller. I need to get rid of the crappy one I have. I am going to have to do a lot of my mickey training with Delena.

Kate--Saw the wedding pics on FB! Great dress! It looks like you had fun!

Tracy-WTG on the push ups! I am such a wimp with push ups! I can do one or two real ones before I have to switch to girlie ones!! We had friends visiting from TN who tried to see the shuttle too. I felt so bad for them that it was cancelled. I hope to see a launch before the shuttle it retired.

Hi Team! 6 miles today in just about 60 minutes.

And I am officially committing to getting back to posting here REGULARLY. I have found in the past 2 months of barely posting that it really DOES make a huge difference for me. :goodvibes

Hi Warriors! I posted up my 30 mile bike ride on the stats page. I forgot about adding my dance work out. I must do that. It truly was a w/o! I wouldn't put that up if we weren't jumping around like maniacs. The young ones got a kick out of us old folks dancing with them to their music. It was a music mix. Really was some kind of fun!

I'm back! Idaho was so much fun...although I did spend most of my weekend in complete torture wishing I was racing too! DH finished his first Ironman in 6:24:33! I am so proud of him!

I was supposed to get in a 3 mile and 6 mile run, but I was only able to get around to the 3 miler. Oh well...it's better than nothing!

Hope everyone had a great weekend...look tomorrow's already Wednesday! I love long weekends!

Hey team!

Just a quick pop in. Did Pilates and a 2 mile walk today. Had a busy weekend with visiting family and all.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Hey Warriors!

Did 7 miles on Sunday pushing the double stroller and chasing my mom and Emma on their bikes (they kept forgetting about me and would go from 8 minute miles to dead stops! Basically I'd lose them and then almost ram them...) It was so hot- I didn't have pistol pinkies, I had pruny pinkies from my death grip on the stroller! Ran about 1 mile on the beach- much better experience in theory. ;)

Skipped yesterday because sat in jury room for 6 hours- didn't get picked, but was sooooo boring. By 4 p.m., the heat index was over 100 degrees and I couldn't face it. Out of curiosity, I checked again at 9 p.m.- still over 100!!

Went running today at about 10 a.m. You guessed it, HOT! The only really good side effect to running in the heat?! NO DOGS. They have the sense to stay inside.

Hope everyone is still doing well. Cracking up over Lily's dancing- I'm so not a dancer, although I am totally hooked on So You Think You Can Dance...

Jen in GA

8 1/4 of rough, HOT, miles. Legs weren't cooperating with the brain.

Followed it up with 800 meter ocean swim.

Hey Stacey!!!

How ya doing?? I am still thinking about doing some pilates, just need to figure a way to pay for it and I still need a bike - ugh!!!

Hope all is well with you and the hubby and family!

Jen - no pinky pistols -haha. Gotta be careful when you do get them you can even shoot yourself if you aren't careful.

Racey Tracy

Hellooooo Warriors ~

I'm glad to hear everyone is getting some miles in. I finally updated my miles on the spreadsheet, but I didn't post my 5 hour days when I volunteered for the bike ride.

I hurt my shoulder throwing a whiffle ball in the office yesterday, old rotator cuff injury...so I'm laying off the push up challenge for a week or so. Someone threw it to me from down the hall, so I had to throw it back. :rotfl2:

Our Summer in the San Francisco Bay area, CA....overcast and cold in the morning. So it's nice running weather, not hot in this part of the U.S.

Have a good day!

Marcia - hey you!! I went and looked at Week 3 for the 100 pushup challenge and you have to re-evaluate your self at that point. I am not ready to move on because I was doing column 1 and at the end of week two the most you do is 8. I can do about 14 without dying, so I am not ready to move on as they say 16 in a row is where you need to be. So I am going back to week two, column 2 and see how that works out.
Can't wait to be able to afford to fly out and hang with you in San Fran some day!!

All those doing the 100 pushup challenge - keep us up to date as how you are doing.

Did 5.10 sweaty miles inbetween lightening alarms at the parks. Gotta love those things!!

Tracy

Hey there Warriors!

Tracy: Totally hear you about not being able to move on the week 3 of the push-up challenge. I'm repeating week 2 right now and then maybe I'll be able to move on. Even though I was able to do enough to move on according to the "test", I just could not do day 3 of week 3! Girls with girly upper bodies, unite! :lmao:

I'm continuing to taper for my half marathon next weekend; my knee bothered me after my 10 mile run a couple weeks ago (but not after my 14 mile run a month ago, go figure) so I'm trying to bike more to keep the cardio up, but not wreck my joints with the pounding. I've even been biking to work (even though it takes me just as long as walking, what with locking and unlocking my bike and such) to get my heart rate up a bit more than my normal "commute walking" speed. I did run 4 miles last night in 45 minutes.... so many idiots with dogs off-leash on the path last night! Ugh!

I also biked to the Big 5 Sports store in Ballard (about 5 miles away) on Monday and picked up a half price training swimsuit. I'm looking forward to getting some swimming in at the cottage next month! I think I'm even ready to try the swim leg of the relay "triathlon" (because it's done on an island the biking is traded for canoeing) again during the regatta weekend in early August. It's a 1000 m open water swim and I did it almost three years ago with no preparation and nearly died, and said I'd never do it again. But, it's always hard for teams to find swimmers (runners and canoers are easy, however) and I think I'll give it a try again this year. I'm in much better overall shape this year, and I'll have a couple weeks beforehand to practise my open-water swimming!

Sarah

Hey hey!

Sarah i didn't realise you taught over here! Was that primary or secondary? He didn't get it, which is such a shame as it would have been perfect. To be honest he did so so well, got to the last 3 out of 100 applicants. Very proud still! Def go for the triathlon, you have the kit and determination so you can do anything :goodvibes

Amy thanks about the dress, it was a lovely wedding. A new jogging stroller sounds brilliant, i'm looking forward to seeing Delena in a shiny bouncy new one preparing for Mickey!

Erika yay welcome back  good job getting 6 miles in

Michelle so good to hear from you, your hubby did brilliantly. I'm not surprised you're very proud of him. Sorry it was so hard watching the others compete, but i bet that's encouraged you even more and given you lots of inspiration.

Stacey hey!!!! 2 miles and pilates is fab. What lovely adventures were you upto with your family?

Jen way to go running 7 miles with a double stroller!!! how on earth do you do it! Jury duty doesn't sound fun at the best of times, never mind spending so long and not being selected. Are you relieved?

Jeff by 'hot' miles you mean that you looked hot when you ran right :rotfl: nothing to do with the heat!

Marcia look after your shoulder- ouchy! i feel like you should be able to post your volunteering times because they were awesome.

Tracy you sound very sensible repeating the week on the push up challenge. I can't do them at all so I'm very impressed by you guys. Are there actual lightning alarms that sound in the park? How strange! I've been weather watching (only *** my iphone monitors orlando!) and everyday says thunder!

Me! Went out with running club to out racecourse on tuesday for 5.5 miles including speedwork. It's actually a lovely run down there along a cycle path, canal and then river 'promenade' (no beach chairs or ice cream tho ). Then went to another spinning class with my friend, an hour of panting and giggling! The instructor told us off for having too much fun :rotfl: Nothing so far today, might hop on Wii in bit tho.

Bye bye for now :grouphug:

Kate: This past week the afternoon temps have been in the 89-92 degree range. If there are no tradewinds, then it's well over 100 degrees when you factor in the heat index (reflected heat off the pavement).

Makes for uncomfortable run, and I'm soaking wet and covered in salt sweat when I'm done. Not to mention a stinkin' mess. We run 8 1/4-10 miles on weekdays, and 14 on Sunday.

Riding my bike isn't as bad, because I'm creating a wind draft as I'm riding.

Good training everyone.
