Warning tiffins

I ordered the whole fish at Tiffins, and it was delicious but more than I could eat, DH had the Wagyu and short rib entree and he barely finished it. I think that the portions are on-par with the other signature restaurants, and much more reasonable than many of the other WDW eateries.

Actually, the whole fish is huge. Here are some links to pics in other trip reports. I think the OP may have gotten an off day or that particular entree is small.

No offense intended to anyone, but those responding about leaving full after having an appetizer, entree, and dessert really aren't really on topic here. We're discussing entree size...not how full you were after multiple courses.

I have not eaten at Tiffin's, so all I have to go on is that one single picture posted. Given that, it's a very small entree.
Especially for $36!

And no, I'm no rube when it comes to "fine dining".

I ate at Tiffins in September. I would estimate the "protein" portion of my dinner to be around 7 ounces. Much more than appeared in the picture the op posted.

Fine dining does not equal tiny portions, unless it is a tasting menu. 6-8 ounces of meat or fish is usually what is served.

Wouldn't 6-8 oz be an proper portion for protein at dinner?
If someone isn't full from that is that a fault of the restaurant or the person? Not that fault is the right word as that indicates blame is laid at someone. I don't think it should be in this case.
Just that a 6 to 8 oz portion of protein as a serving is a full serving and shouldn't really come with a warning, should it? Maybe the better notice would be if you prefer larger portion sizes Tiffin's isn't for you

The poster said that they got an estimated 7 oz and it looked like much more than what the OP got. At least that's how I read it. Maybe the OP got less for some reason?

No idea. I guess they can get a serving that is off. But after seeing the photo of the same meal that another poster posted from the back side there was more meat showing and it did look like 7 oz, or so.
Anyway, bottom line. They don't serve a large portion but they do serve a full portion for their entrees (in normal cases at least)

As one PP noticed, I do believe most restaurants serve portion sizes too large for the average person and that it's not a good thing. That said, I've eaten at several high-end restaurants, some of which serve tiny entree portions, and I honestly do not believe Tiffins fits into that category. I've eaten there twice. The first time, I received two very generous pieces of pork tenderloin accompanied by a full-sized, very filling tamale - I couldn't finish it. The second time, I ordered the swordfish served over rice and got the same portion size that you would get at any better seafood restaurant. Of the 69 posts in this thread, only 11 people have reported actually eating at Tiffins, and of that 11, only 1 - the OP - reported being dissatisfied with the portion that he or she received. I can't tell from the picture whether the portion was too small, but even if it was, maybe it was an anomaly.
Clearly, if (like one PP), you are expecting a very big portion of food based on the price of the entree, then you will likely be disappointed. But if you are the type of person who enjoys fine dining restaurants and the menu at Tiffins looks interesting to you, don't be put off by warnings as to portion sizes. Try it for yourself.

Picture is now posted

This portion appears smaller than what we received for the same dish at dinner time last month. could be the angle on the chicken but we definitely received nearly twice as much pap. Overall it had our highest expectations and was our biggest disappointment. Even for two of the party members who were there previously in october of last year, were sorely disappointed this time around.

I'm considering giving it another shot for lunch if we go back in January and bother trying to go to AK at all given all the Pandora crowds. For now we'll make the trip over to the lodge for Jiko instead.

Dessert sizes with the exception of the passion fruit curd at tiffins, especially the chocolate bar were laughably, unreasonably, small.

The Chocolate Pudding bar thing at California grill is nearly twice as large and the both the Chocolate "Sea Urchin" and Chocolate Souffle at Victoria and Alberts are gigantic in comparison and are parts of a ten course tasting menu.

That does look small. But it can be typical for "fine dining". My husband left California Grill hungry and asked if the entree was the appetizer. I think his appetizer was bigger (flatbread).
:lmao: :rotfl: Thats hilarious. :rotfl2: Your poor husband.

The entree portions we were given were more than adequate for us. Not talking about multiple courses. Just entree portions. Seriously, how much do people need to eat?
Youre assuming everyone has the same appetite. I can assure you that is not the case. Just because you find that portion more than enough, it doesnt mean everyone would agree with you.

My husband is 6'5" and built like a linebacker. We rarely do signature dining for precisely this reason - that most of them do not serve portions that satisfy a person his size. Not everyone has the same needs.
Exactly!

I think those with larger appetites will appreciate the OP. That you find it so offensive that you have to continue to post ad nauseum is quite comical. You like the food and portion sizes, good for you, some people find the portions too small.
::yes:: Well said. I agree.

I do appreciate the pic you posted OP. It does look small. I havent heard many good things about this restaurant from my friends. I honestly doubt i'll rush to make an ADR here. My DS can eat, and i know that after eating this entree he too would want to visit at QS. Thank you for sharing! Its very much appreciated.

I, um, agree that the fish is large, but, um...

Okay, no offense intended to anyone who likes it, but if I was served a fish that way I'd run screaming from the restaurant. I have fish at home that look at me, I don't need them doing it when I go out. Eek!

Im with you on that!! Im the same way with fish. I dont like a whole fish, with its head, sitting on my plate. I prefer a filet. :)

Lol...random aside, on early dates I always order the most "out there" menu item to see how my companion responds. The reactions seem to tell me a lot:)

6-8 ounces is perfect. The original picture looked like a fraction of that! Not even a good snack :)

Agreed. Most American restaurants serve inappropriately large portions. I like when a place has an amount similar to what I'd have at home.
You don't say where 'home' is, but America is a big place & food culture is not uniform in the different regions of the USA, let alone all the other countries in N. and S. America. There are a number of restaurants I've dined at in the SF/Monterey region of California where the plate pictured by OP would be considered normal.
That said, I'm not a fan of the high end restaurant trend of the sides being decorative rather than substantive. I'd rather skip the all carb empty calories of the bread and have an adequite protein and healthier veg side. I rarely eat the empty desert calories.
We're trying Tiffins for the first time this Dec., thanks for the warning OP, I'll definitely avoid that entree.

I have thought about getting this before, but something else looked better. If they don't have the scallops in August, then I will probably get this. I am not super adventurous. I don't like to suck the head contents out of anything. However, whole fish doesn't really bother me.

I'm not big on food that looks back at me but I did try the whole fish (in my attempt to order each item on their menu). It was quite good. If I can handle it most anyone can.
Though I admit, the scallops are my favorite. Only the Wagu comes close to being as good as they were.

Funny thing, the one thing neither DH nor I have ordered in all our meals at Tiffin's is the item OP ordered. It's been on my list try try but they changed things in April so our list changed up. Maybe I'll have to try it next time, see how the portion comes out.
