I do better on buzz when I just aim for one target and shoot as many times as I can until I get too far away, then pick another...rather than aiming all over the place cuz I'm just not that good of a shot...lol.
Not sure about Toy Story, but I think a lot of people don't notice that the guns on Astro blasters beam a red laser which you can see where ever you point it at. Once the ride starts and the guns are activated point to an easy area so you can find your laser, then look for it when you're actually trying to hit a target, will really help you score high.
I'm not sure if this is allowed on this forum, but i've been watching this video for a over a year, getting it in my head so I can get the hang and the tricks to get a high score (I am always competitive, in a fun way though )
Gee, let me ask my 2 year old! Lol! Seriously, we were there in May & I can't remember which ride it was but I had my 2 year old & 8 year old with me. My 2 year old beat her brother by a long shot by just randomly playing with the gun! It was HILARIOUS!

When the ride begins, start shooting at one target as many times as you can. The back of the robot's left hand (your right) gives you many points when you constantly shoot at it. Also, the spinning targets at the very top of an entrance to another room gets you many points when you shoot it constantly too. This is how I got 999,999
The Zurg models have a(n unmarked) sensor right smack dab in the middle of the chest that's worth 100,000 each.
Like others have said, pick a target and stay with it, don't gyrate all over the place trying to hit them all. The target shapes have different values (there is a diagram in the queue that shows them in order of value), so stick to higher value targets.
If you want to be sneaky, take the control for the duration of the ride. The other person in your car will have to adjust to you turning the car and will score lower.
