Hmm wondering if all of my rescheduling has gotten me into trouble:confused:

I was thinking the same thing. I have unbooked two events to do two closer to home. But I am working--so they should be happy. Also--if that was the case it shouldn't let me pull up the ones in MD either.

I have two KM and the rest are either T or ST.

There were some offdates and even on dates for early August. I think the dates wre Aug 2, Aug 9 and more for offdates and maybe a few others.

How long have you been doing this? Did I 'cut into" your territory? I'm very sorry if I did.

I've unbooked lots to book others. Its even been suggested by SPi to unbook a Walmart to take a Target. Then take the Walmart again on another date. I always do it WAY before event is scheduled. No one has said anything to me.

I don't have anything past 8/26. Last event available I see is 9/1, but that's Labor Day weekend so I'm not booking it.

There are two events for 9/1 at two different Targets in Atlanta posting now. I was able to unbook one of mine and rebook for one closer to home Yippiee!!!!

And for any of you further south--Warner robbins.

Looks like they're gone now.

Belle1962,

No maam you are not cutting in on my territory. I have been working for mass for 16 months and normally I do not have any problem with geting assignments. However over this past summer I have had to unbook demos because of childcare issues. I always suspected that SPI released jobs in waves and it has alot to do with your status with them. So, dont ever feel as if you are squeezing in on anyones territory. If you dont book the jobs some one else will. I just need to contact the agency and find out what exactly is going on!!

BTW, welcome and I am glad you are enjoying the Demo World. The only thing I am worried about is making money for our annual Disney Tripp. My kids have gotten accustomed to them:rotfl:

Working on Cape Cod these past 2 weekends has been a bit of an eye opener for me. We've had our house there for over 30 years, but we live in a quieter quaint section of the Cape. I don't go to Hyannis (summer home of the Kennedy clan) all that much because its very touristy & lots of commercial things & traffic.

Anyway, I was surprised at the amount of non-english speaking people. Residents AND tourists. I've encountered ALOT of tourists shopping at Kmart for something they forgot. People from England, Germany, Japan.........

I had one cashier teach me how to saw cat & dog in Spanish since so many people didn't understand what I was saying....and didn't realize it was pet food because they didn't recognize the packaging.

Last Saturday, they had a Kmart employee also set up a table near me at the front door. She was handing out little cups of Icee (slushies) to promote their new beverage center. (No gloves or hat.) I could tell she had a cute little accent. Turns out she's a Hungarian college student here for the summer working at Kmart and Macy's making as much money as she can. Her english & pronounciation was very good. She attends the American University back home. Very nice girl. Hope to see her again.

Now I knew that just about everyone working on the Cape in the summer is college students...always has been. But now I learned there are ALOT that come from Europe. I've met more of them while they shop.

Learn something new everyday I guess.

ETA: Last year I only made $1900 from April to Dec. This year, I've already made over $3500 up to the end of July. There have been many more events than last year. I hope it keeps up. My car went back to the shop yesterday & its cutting into my kitchen remodel money. lol

Ok so what does everyone have booked after the 18th:confused3 Trying to plan next years vacation but with only 4 events booked so far is not good. What is up with everyone else???

I don't know if this will be helpful, but nothing is showing for me anymore. I did book an 8-25-07 Nice' N Fluffy Escape & Xtra ScentSations at K-Mart and 9-8-07 Salute to Savings Wave I - Dollar Days at Super Target in mid-July. Everything else has either been taken or there's nothing going on.

If I search 50 miles out, all I find is a ton of Hamburger Helper off-dates, one more Salute to Savings Wave I and one "Family Time Snacks" for Super Walmart (haven't seen that anywhere else) on 9-13-07.

There was a Super Target grand opening near me and I could've worked nearly everyday, but I had to have 3 unexpected biopsies in my esophagus and I couldn't work around food for the past 10 days. They must've found people in that area because now there's only one showing and it conflicts with another event I have booked.

So now that I've rambled on, my point is I think it might be slow all over these days.

An October 6 just popped this morning for me:
Pink for the Cure - Progresso & Yo Plus scheduled for 10/06/2007 it's at Big K-Mart.

"I always suspected that SPI released jobs in waves and it has alot to do with your status with them."

I suspect as much also--as even last night the 2 in Atlanta kept going from 1 to 2 to 1 to 2 to 1 to 2. And really, if the more experienced demoers (is that even a word????) get a "heads up" or more selections--well that's just like every other job where you have to "pay your dues" and "put your time in". If I were running the company I would want my established, proven reliable employees to get first choice. (Although I would like to be one of those demoers soon!!!!)

Reflecting on this, I think my goal of working every weekend is unrealistic. First, I do need "me time" and second my DGS just will not understand if I am giving up most of every Saturday with him--although I plan on buying Disney Dollars with my checks so he can "see" the results of the time away. I plan on "paying us/the Disney Jar" at the end of each shift so he can get the visual. The title of the thread says it all "Every NOW AND THEN". I shouldn't expect it to fill the gaps and be a steady job--that's one reason I liked it---a 'steady job" would want me to commit to a set schedule and I didn't want that--however I find I have put myself on a "steady schedule" of every Saturday!!!!!!!! Granted at higher pay than most pt jobs would offer.

Belle1962,

If you continue to show up do a decent job then you will have no problem with getting demo's consecutive. I looked at my paystub and as of todate I too had made 3,700 dollars. I kind of shot my own self in the foot. I took for granted that I always had work. I knew that the summer months were going to be tricky and I booked demo's and my babysitting would fall through and i had to reschedule or I would do my demo's at different time. Hey SPI is an employer like any other employer. I work for other demo companies that pay less some pay more but Mass was my bread and butter and I think that they have "revoked some of my demo privledges" So I am not going to whine that it is unfair. FOr the most part I did a good job for them and like i said some months I would have anywhere between 9-13 demo's with them. IF the works out there it can be done. I have had fun at grandopenings and like I said work was abundant for me.

The thing that I am regretting is that my kids are already talking about there April Disney trip, I just hope that I will come thru for them.

Belle it sounds like you are doing an awesome job, keep it up. I made some really good money last year working "part-time".

Belle1962,

I’m beginning to believe there’s some truth in what you’re saying. I’ve done roughly 15 Target events this year and unbooked one (first unbook ever) in July. Since my Target events are through TMT, I did not unbook it myself as I knew that would get me “in trouble”. I emailed them to let them know I needed to cancel. I waited two weeks and it was still on “My Events”. I then called them as there was then about 10 days to go before the event. They did thank me for calling, but wanted to know WHY I was canceling. Didn’t tell them it was because I was doing another event with SPi that paid more. Anyways, drgnfly30 posted about a 9/1 Kraft Target event a couple of weeks ago. I can’t begin to tell you the number of times she’s posted about a Target event that sure enough it’s either out there for me or is within hours. This particular event never showed up until this afternoon. There’s about 9 Target stores in my area and I generally work two in particular. The only two to show up are the two I normally work. I’m guessing the other locations were picked up by someone else and the two out there today were not being picked up so they were released to the “in trouble” group. Just a guess on my part though.

I hope unbooking a Target/ST isn't a trigger--I unbooked a ST further away from home and rebooked for same date--different event but at the ST closer to my house.

SPi seems better about unbooking than TMT. They don't seem to mind if you unbook online. TMT takes away your log in if you do. They want you to call them not do it online. I asked them why they even had the option online then:)

Can you do that--just show up on a different date if you have the kit or do you mean official offdates?

No No No before people are like Wow well she deserved to get canned. Originally, a long time ago I had weekday demo booked for 11-4. Well it is easier for me to do them 2-7 because I could stay later and my accross the street neighbor only had to watch my kids for 2 hrs until DH get home as oppose to 5 hours.
So I mostly ran my events 2-7 on the correct day rather than 11-4. Like I said I know I am in the "in trouble" group and now I am getting the left over selections, I have emailed and asked my coordinator is there any problem but in all SPI has been extremely fair. Belle, keep doing a good job and it will be ok. I would just say from now on make sure you book what you want and leave it alone.

How does the TMT/SPi split work?

I was hired under SPi (I think) and all I had online to choose from was Walmarts, and ocassionally a K-Mart. Then I got an email about events that needed to be filled and it was all Super Targets so I replied and said that I couldn't see those events when I logged in and then they changed it so I could.

The emails I get says "SPi Regional Manager" and my checks says SPi. I don't even know what SPi stands for.

Does TMT cover just some states or is it US-wide? Same question for SPi if anyone knows. What is Mass Connections - the main company? Do they answer the phone for both agencies?

Maybe you've done this already, but could someone in your same state who works for SPi type in your zip code and see if you get the same list of jobs that they do? Maybe even I could try it.

When I was waiting for the Garnier kit to arrive I asked if I could do it later that day and was told the latest I could start was 2 pm with or without a kit. I would think the 2-7 shift would be way better for weekday jobs because you get the after-work people. I wonder why the times are so important - it makes sense on weekends, but not on weekdays.

I'm in the same position as you, my two youngest kids can't be alone, so the weekday 11-4 doesn't work (except this week my 15 year old will be home to be with them). If I could start at 2 pm, then my youngest could play at the neighbors and my son would be okay for 2 hours alone. It won't even work out good after school starts since the younger two get home at 3 pm. I hate to hire daycare for this job, actually it would be pointless money-wise.

TMT aka The Merchandising Team is another staffing agency that MC uses. Early on on this thread, there were a couple of other agencies that MC also used that no longer exist. Many of us at one time were assigned to just TMT. Here in Ohio, TMT has the Target accounts. Late last winter, those of us assigned to TMT were also offered by MC to be assigned to an additional agency SPi. Thank goodness for that since SPi has the WM accounts in Ohio. At one time TMT had the Kmarts here, but in March SPi started staffing those events. I’m hoping at some point MC assigns ( or whatever they do) the Target accounts to SPi vs. TMT. That would make it a whole lot easier for those of us who have to contend with two different staffing agencies within MC. I believe TMT is nationwide. They do have their own website www.themerchandisingteam.com where you can apply for jobs, but that would be through them directly.

Thank you! It makes so much more sense to me now. Apparently in Minnesota, SPi is the agency for all the jobs, but holds back the Super Target ones on new people unless they don't have anyone in that particular area.

Super Target must be their money-maker.

I am doing my first job tomorrow!! Very nervous. Hamburger helper and toaster strudels. I was wondering if I can wear capris? I looked thru the thread but didn't see anything if they have to be long pants. Thank you!!

I'm doing that event tomorrow too. I don't know about the capris. I think it says pants & skirts. We talked about this not too long ago, & I think we came to the conclusion the answer is no. You'll do fine once you get going. Remember, no one knows if you are doing anything wrong except you. No boss or co-workers looking over your shoulders. Just use your head & you'll be fine. Smile & have fun! :goodvibes

I'm packing some foil leftover from past events to line my toaster oven tray. I'm wondering if it might get sticky & burn using the tray over & over. Not sure if it will work out ok. Hoping it doesn't stick to the foil. I'll try it at first & see how it goes. When I make toaster strudels at home, I use a toaster....not a toaster oven. I thought about bringing the toaster instead, but the edges do burn a little bit using the toaster & sometimes the middle is still cold. Not a good idea.

Also sounds like an event where the folded papertowels in a baggie with water for washing is a good idea. Remember the icing on the cinnamon rolls event? :rotfl2: Also to wipe the knife & cutting board off once in a while.

Glad we don't have to cook the Hamburger Helper this time around. :thumbsup2

Don't forget your duct tape to tape down your extension cord to the floor so no one trips on it. And if you don't have a night lite to test the outlet, be sure to plug in your toaster oven & test the outlet BEFORE you get all set up & find out the outlet doesn't work & you have to move. Nothing like starting off an event with rattled nerves.

Good luck. I have to go pack now. :goodvibes
