I'm anxious to hear from Splsh how the Pear event went today. I've got that one on Monday and I can imagine all kinds of things going wrong. :confused3

;)

LOL, nothing really wrong. I brought a knife & that was handy to get the little stickers off the pears. I couldn't get them off by hand while wearing gloves. I just kept sticking the stickers to my plastic table clothe in the corner. lol. Later, I counted stickers to know how many I used for sampling. :thumbsup2 Unexpectedly smart idea. :teeth:

I had a small bottle of water I used to wash the cutting board & slicer with, because I didn't want to keep walking to back room. They are JUICY, & slicer & gloves get sticky. Bring lots of gloves.

Some pears were HUGE. :teeth: Don't try using slicer on those. LOL It got stuck on one. Just let people buy those instead & stick with sampling the ones that will fit.

It was pretty easy. I felt like a pear expert on ripening by the end. LOL Surprised how many people say they didn't know how to tell if ripe or how to ripen. So, I just kept explaining...and drew an audience a couple of times. :rotfl2: The pears I had were almost crisp like an apple. They came straight from the cooler. BUT, only 2 people "complained" they weren't ripe & tossed their sample. Those 2 people were together. Most people only took 1 slice, but I told them they could have another, & most people did take the 2nd slice. Even with them not being ripe, most people went "mmmmmmm" on biting, "those are good"....and took the 2nd slice. :thumbsup2

I stacked cases next to my table with a roll of bags for people to take to purchase, since the store did not have these on display to sell.

It was a good event. Fun!! Oh, but expect to hear a few comments about false teeth & not eating hard pears. LOL And some people were interested in the nutrition info (how much sugar, fiber,....) its listed under the pear chart. The weight watcher crowded was happy to hear about 100 cal.

That's great, Splsh. I'm glad it went so well. I am really praying that the store has my pears. What was the box like? It always seems that when the boxes go to the stores, they never can find them.

Susan

They were stacked in the produce cooler. The produce manager knew nothing about a demo or a special pear shipment, but one of the produce girls knew exactly where they were. White boxes with a liberty bell graphic on the side. Comice pear (30) stamped on the end of the boxes.

I hope everyone that had Wine events tonight are issue free... I got two calls from Daniel during my event, one asking if I can do a double tomorrow. I said No... I was tempted but one event is enough, I have stuff I need to do. And another call warning me that not all of the liquor stores are accepting Debit cards & if I ran into that issue at tomorrows store I could either buy the product myself (tonight was $94, so I'm not so sure I want to wait for reimbursement - I have 7 more of these suckers booked) or don't buy anything & just 'promote' the product (yawn)... ... It sounded like they were having tons of issues.

Oh, when I tried to swipe out tonight with a .30 pack of gum they told me I couldn't use my MC Debit card for less than $8.00 - and I had NO money on me to make the purchase myself... so the manager wrote on the form that I left at 8pm & then I added a note to the bottom saying I couldn't swipe out & had no cash to make a personal purchase. What else could I do?! I think they'll be understanding considering the other issues they were having.

Yikes, can you imagine if you had to pay like $94 for wine at all 8 of your events!! :sad2: Did ya have any weirdos? That's what I wanna know.

I know there are ALOT of these events available in MA. They are advertising like crazy on Craigslist. And you they you to do doubles? Guess we old grey haired ladies aren't the wine drinking, Craigslist reading crowd. :rotfl2:

It was interesting to say the least... quite the variety of people & liquors of choice! One guy paid for some vodka & a bottle of cranberry juice with dimes... another guy who looked hard on his luck & on his way to happyland for the evening, tasted it like he was straight out of the movie Sideways.. the funniest thing!

Hey, can someone PM Daniels email address... I want to drop him a note about the minimum debit purchase issue.

Yes I had plenty issues!!! First I was in a package store the size of my living room. Forgive me call me dense maybe I was having a Jessica Simpson moment but it did not register to me that I would be in a liquor store :confused3 Yes, the kind that look like corner stores were everyone is walking out with there brown bags. No classy event here. I call my hubby and tell him that I do not want to be here when the sun goes down.

I set up, the employees show me the one tiny display of Sterlings that they have available. I set up and then all of a sudden all H#@L breaks loose.

The manager comes out and ask me where is my printer and I am suppose to be printing out labels :confused3 My instruction said nothing to that effect. He shows me his contract that says I was to have my laptop and printer to print out custom made labels. Believe me this is the first I am hearing of this!
I tell him the only thing that I have are coupons and pens and recipe booklets.

He looks at my coupon and they do not even have the product that I have coupons for!! Well he is upset and said that this is not what he paid for, by now I am really ready to go home because what they fail to realize is that I do not work for Diago, I am not an actual vendor, I am just a Housewife who likes to demo new products on the weekend. HE tells me that he is not going to waste my time and I am not going to waste his.

This is were I find out that I have to make a 10.00 purchase with my debit card. Thank goodness I had some change in my ashtray and I was able to by some peanuts. I just came home and unbooked the two I had in December. I think I will stick to peddling my wares at ST.

Oh my (on several counts) !!!!

OK: now my Jessica Simpson moment. (How many of those am I allowed in one week, BTW?) I didn't realize the stores pay to have the events there. I thought the manufacturer did. I wish someone would explain how this all works when we get hired. :confused3

Drgnfly, if you are here, I NEED HELP ASAP WITH A PAYPAL QUESTION....AND I KNOW YOU CAN HELP. PM me or see my thread on CB. Thanks.

I definately don't think my store paid to have me there... I actually think he was surprised I was going to be there at all... luckily MC called them about 5 minutes before I got there.... It's Diageo paying. I gather that depending on your state regulations you either had a wet event (actually sampling) or a dry event, in which case you were printing labels. I got an email from Mollie right before I left tonight providing a label template, I wrote back just to make sure the instructions hadn't changed & she confirmed it was only intended for those who had those events.. mine wasn't one of them.

I wouldn't go to a liquor store with a laptop. Publix would be fine, but not ABC Liquor or anyplace like that.

All of mine are booked at fairly large liquor stores.. not that it limits the patrons to upper class people...note the dime paying Vodka lover at mine! In fact they are having a Baileys event tomorrow. Three of my events are at pretty large well known stores that specialize in Wines - I'll really need to brush up for those!

Even tonight I had people asking me what other wines (non Cabernet Sauvigion) that I would recommend... umm I don't know Arbor Mist is about the extent of my wine experience!

I love the ABC Liquor store in the Loop at Hunters Creek. That is the one I am doing my label event at. I looked on their web site and it is a 70th anniversary event with lots of free samples, etc.. It is a nice store with tons of great wine.

WOW, everyone seems to be having some issues with the wine events...lol..kinda funny tho, anyway i haven had any come up near me so i havent taken any but i dont know if id wanna sit at a small liquor stoire, if it was the abc at the corner of my house, maybe and even take my laptop but some of thee can get shady!

Wow, lots happened today while I was handing out samples of potato salad AGAIN.
Hope all those wine events get better!

Did you know ST has TWO kinds of potato salad? Grandpa's and Steakhouse potato salad.
I'm sure you all were just dying to know that

I met my competition today. She walked up to my table and told me her name and that she worked for TMT. Then she proceeded to grill me! Asked me how long I had worked for TMT, where I worked, ect. Then she started complaining about no work available (after she said she is doing the Holiday meal tomorrow). I've gotten the last two jobs after reading here about scheduling up to two months out, I don't think she knows that.
It was pretty uncomfortable for awhile. She finally dropped the grilling and we chatted. She said she used to be "over" all the Target stores in Kansas and Nebraska, but that position has been dropped. She was in the store to see what they were doing for the Holiday meal event. I wasn't sure what her position is, she made it sound like more than just demoing? Anyone have a clue?

Drgnfly, I had this happen at Walmart a couple of weeks ago. My debit card wouldn't work when swiping out at the end of the event, so I made a cash purchase. When I got home, I called TMT and they told me it is a good thing I called because if I hadn't, I would have been docked $30 :furious: . He put me on hold and said he "pushed it through MC" and that I would get paid the full amount. I haven't gotten that check yet, but I would suggest you call on Monday and tell them what happened, so you don't get docked. I work for TMT and it sounds like it is harder to get SPi on the phone, but you might want to try. Good luck :wave2:

Susan

Ok you guys have me concerned! I'm going to be at a pretty big liquor store for my wine events. Hopefully my MC card will work. I really don't want to use my own money. I wonder what weirdo's I'll incounter today. :teeth:

My place today is right next to a Trader Joe's I love that place.

Earstou You are becoming the potato salad queen :rotfl2: I didn't know that about the potato salad choices

It wasn't a question of the card working (it did) it's an issue of the stores not accepting Debit cards & if they do, imposing a minimum purchase limit with card transactions. I'll be sure to bring some cash with me on subsequent events so at least I can get a receipt.

Did others get actual coupons?? I just got rebate forms & not very good ones IMO ($6 refund with the purchase of 3 bottles & $9 refund with the purchase of 6 bottles).

BTW which one did your customers prefer? Mine liked the BV Napa Valley the best.
