Bren's Mom - are those dry wine events? When I questioned MC about the pay for these events they mentioned that ones with printers get paid more... I have a wet event, no printer...

It's dry I'm pretty sure...there was no mention in the training of carding or anything like that. Anyone know how I find out how much it pays? That wasn't listed anywhere either. I did have to take their little test but it was easy.

Don't hold me to it (because 1/2 the time they don't know what they are talking about) but this was part of the response I got when I questioned the pay rate:

"Some events with the laptop pay more. They earn $40 for the laptop and $10 for training and $68 for the event."

I was told I would be getting $78 per event - $68 enhanced 4 hr event + $10 training.

Well, I'm back from my second event. My first event was yesterday (the Chocolate Bars) and that was fun.

The Target employee that was running a demo yesterday mentioned he would let the health inspector know where I was when he stopped by. It kinda went in one ear and out the other, not sure if he was joking or not. Oh, by the way, my SuperTarget has 2 or 3 Target employee demos going on during the weekend.

So today, that same employee as yesterday mentioned the health inspector again. This time I knew he was serious and questioned him about it. He said each time they run a demo, the health department comes in.

Sure enough, about that time here he comes. As it turns out, the laws in our state (could be city, but I think he said state) require your company to call in your demos ahead of time so they can put you on their inspection schedule for that day. We have to keep a bowl of water and hand soap on our station. For Target, that's not difficult since they have those demo tables....but I can't imagine how we would do that with those cardboard tables.

We also need to take a class at the health department and carry a food handlers permit.

I called the weekend person (David) with SPI and told him I had been shut down by the Health Department. He told me to swipe out and call my Coordinator on Monday. He said we'd have to see what Payroll did with this situation.

I had 2 events scheduled for next weekend, but since I can't take the Food Handlers class before then, I unbooked.

How frustrating! Has anyone run into this before?

Lil Princess, holy Batman :scared1: I did not know that. wow, I sure wished some one from the health department shut down this lady today that was demoing Baked Cheetos with no hairnet or gloves  I am glad that you posted this, I will surely keep some soap and water in my ST cart. Gosh, that sounds horrible.

I demo'ed Hershey Dark chocolate today for another company. It was fast and painless  I need to go study my instructions for the Wine event on friday.

Wow! I've never heard of anyone getting shut down. Where are you from???

That doesn't happen here, definitely. And I'm surprised on the soap, since they do require gloves. I don't think the gloves are totally healthy, though - since MC only mandates like 2 or 4 sets, and I always use more. If I touch anything - raw meat, my face, whatever with a glove, it comes off. Or even if I've touched the table a few times - otherwise, it's just like your hands, with all kinds of germs.

WOW!! That's a new one. Where do you live?

I too am always changing gloves...and try to keep track of what "other" stuff I've touched, like the table..... I'm always bringing extra gloves with me too. I have hand sanitizer I keep with me...and use even BEFORE I put on the gloves. lol

Really, what good is a bowl of water & a bar of soap? We would need running water & a drain....not the same dirty water again & again. :confused3

That's crazy about the Health dept. Don't they know how much germs are on a bar of soap. :rolleyes1

I know, it's the craziest thing. I have emailed Robin with SPi and filled her in on what took place. I'll let you know what she says.

It sounds like someone from SPi must contact the Health Department before each demonstration in order to be placed on the Inspection Schedule. Whether it's WalMart, Target, or anywhere in town. He had the names of the 3 Target demonstrators because Target had called them in, but he didn't have me. That's why he shut it down. I had to show him paperwork to prove I was supposed to be there. He also wrote down the phone number to SPi and said he would be contacting them.

I live in Oklahoma, but I don't know if that's a city law or state law.

I don't understand the bowl of water either. I can see it easily being knocked over if we're working an event with those cardboard tables. Just another health department rule I guess.

I am doing the Sierra Mist today, Hope it all goes well.... I wonder how big of cooler I need to bring to keep the drinks cool, We have to buy 12 2 liter drinks... They should be in the cooling case.... Where is that?? Oh well, Gotta get ready!! Have a great day!!

I did the same event today.
I asked an employee to see if the product had been delivered to the cooler. He went and radioed for someone who was to be "helping the sample people", stood around for 10 minutes and she never showed up.

He was waiting around with me until I finally told him.. "It's a simple yes no question, do you have any in the cooler?"
He kinda shrugged and we parted ways.. I hauled my 12 bottles off to the dairy cooler and pleaded for the guys not to bury my product. (Last time I had a frozen product , bag labeled with HOLD for demo sign, they put three pallets in front of my bag... had to dig it out to finish demo.)

Now you have to ask yourself.. if someone was assigned to do demos .. wouldn't she be in the demo supply area setting up tables, checking on us on the floor and available to sign off when done?
The answer.... NOPE! Never saw her the whole time.
According to ST rules, MC people are not to set up or put away tables. The really stinkeroo stores have signs telling us to put everything away and no one helps you. I put supplies away, wipe table down, but I leave my table out. I've heard of MC and ST people breaking toes when dropping those heavy clumsy tables. :sad2:

Sold what was left of product (all 8 bottles) before I even had product out for sampling. :rotfl:
Then sold a bunch of 12 packs beacuse that was all they had at hand.
ST doesn't restock vendor items. They have a few of the most popular varieties in the stock area but that's it. This was a vendor error for having so little stock on hand.

I have never brought an ice chest to ST events.
I usually borrow a bowl or large square container from the deli, fill with ice and keep product chilled. Extra stuff I put in dairy cooler/freezer.

Anyone else doing Neurtrogena this weekend?? :confused3 Any kit yet?

Kind of dreading being in a wal-mart this weekend......from the looks of all the shopers this past weekend, people have started xmas shopping early! :santa:

I have one wine event and it is also a dry one where I print labels only no sampling.

I have the Tassimo this weekend (we have pass a training test now :rotfl2: ) the first question T/F you have received your brewer in the mail and verified it works. Hmm is that a trick question cause last time I received it but it was BROKEN and this time I haven't received it yet..... I am doomed to fail right off the bat.

Sierra Mist went pretty good this weekend... Gave away a lot of samples... the demo people for ST are not the smartest people well at least the ones I have met so far... They have no clue where anything in the store is located, Like pop tarts... He said they were in the frozen food area.... Had no idea what bread crumbs were.... Didn't know what Dr Atkins even was..... Had no clue where the health food aisle was..... Made me feel bad for Target... One lady threatened to go to Publix if someone didn't help her, She said 2 employees just looked at her and shook their head when she asked where something was... I felt bad for her...
The Target Demo person kept leaving his table with stuff on it, I told him he couldn't do that.. He laughed and said he knew it was illegal but he didn't care, I told him just put the left overs on my table... He was only at his table for about 2 hours total... He kept taking breaks and lunch and walking around.. He kept trying to get me to eat the chips, I told him we are not allowed to eat at our tables... It was a nice location and I would go back but it was crazy.......

Good thing I look in the event boxes before the demo. Sunday I have the wine event, I don't see the corkscrew. I'm thinking the bottles don't have a screw top. :rotfl2: I guess I will fire off a email and make sure I can bring my own. I also wonder if they will send whole new kits for multi events? or do we keep leftovers signage, tablecloth for the next events? :confused3
I assume we give only l sample per person, since the instructions say no more than 1 oz per customer.

I had a Green and Blacks again today. I do like that one, as I'm very familiar with the product (it's huge in England!) I was surprised it is made in Italy, even though Green and Blacks is a British company.

The corkscrew is in a tiny white box (1/2"x 3" maybe)... I'm keeping everything regardless.. I got my kit for Saturdays event but not Fridays :confused3 I'm booked for eight of these suckers....

Looks like state of MA (SPI) has a new staffing co-ordinator, Daniel Arruda. Not Vanessa anymore.

However, Daniel was trying to sent list of available events....and there was no attachment. sigh. Think I should bug him right away about my ADP problem, so let him settle in. Poor guy. :goodvibes
