Okay so here goes my first couple questions - I am sure there will be many more to follow- :lmao: I really really want to purchase a DVC membership at BCV or BWV. I am leaning towards BWV as my home resort just for cheaper point sake at this time.
I have read that your points always stay the same year over year. But the question to those who have had DVC for a while- how much has the dues increased over the years? I see that the annual dues are 5.21 a point now and I can handle that, but I don't want to be shocked by it being 7.00 a point next year. Is there anything in the contract holding them to a slight increase? Also I saw that the points needed for stays varies from weekday to weekend and also by season. Has this increased alot of the years? Meaning that your points do not go as far - thus also causing an increase in price?
Also we already have a trip planned for this June on the 4/3 so I am hoping to buy resale with points that will be coming for 2010. Knowing this would it still be worth it for us to book a tour with a disney sales rep when we are there? I really do not like the look of BLT - I really want the beach - and I don't want to waste their time or mine. But is there enough other info that I could gather that would make it worth talking to someone?
I have so many questions - thanks in advance for helping me !!

I would talk to a guide. It would definately not be waisting your time. Before talking with a guide though, you may want to continue to check out these boards.
There are some veterans here on the boards with a lot of knowledge, and in some cases, able to explain things better than the guides.
As far as some of your questions,
It is possible to purchase into BWV or BCV... You may have to go onto a waitlist to purchase though. These resorts have been sold, so you may have to wait for an opening. Also, you will get no incentives buying into a sold resort. Right now they are selling BLT, SSR, AKV. You may want to check into their incentives...Right now it's a cruise, but that may change very soon.
The above refers to buying from Disney.... you can also buy Resale.
As far as increases in dues, they cannot increase over 15% yearly. Im a little bad in math, so i'll let someone else explain this in more detail.
Also, concerning the point structure, the point values can change within a resort. If they lower points within one area, they would have to increase points somewhere else, so the total number stays the same within the resort. Depending how you vacation, that can change how many points you would need. What you see now for an allotted week can change, since they can change points within the entire calendar year. There is a HUGE thread discussing this on the boards.
Some have been told that the point structure doesn't change.... It does, and happened just a few months ago, and will probably in the future. Big lesson here is to buy more than the exact amount of what you think you'll need.
I'll let someone else explain better on the other questions you have. Hope you get what you're looking for :thumbsup2

You should tour while you're there. The limit is an increase of 15% per year though it doesn't apply to taxes, only maint itself. I feel you can safely assume it'll be far less, likely in the range or inflation or just over. Eventually it'll get to $7 a point, but hopefully it'll be a while. As for BWV and BCV, they are both nice and very similar in many ways. Of the 2, BWV will be the better value since it is a larger resort, has the standard and BW view options, is older (sellers paid less) and will likely have more contracts available.

here is a link to historical dues increases:

http://personalpages.tds.net/~rb/DIS/DVC/DVCDuesHistory.htm

check out the 2010 point chart thread for more discussion - more talk on this thread will get it closed - total pts for the whole resort for the year cannot change. but if you expect sun-thurs stays to always be as low as they are now, you may get burned. (but again, if DVC decides to raise the requirements for sun-thurs stays, then they MUST decrease the pts required for weekends. if DVC raises the point costs for early december, then they MUST decrease the point costs for july or somewhere else...)

We have stayed at both and love both resorts. I personally prefer BCV over BWV because of the beach and pool for the kids. If you are going resale you should find what you want at either right now. If you stay at BCV you are a very short walk to the boardwalk so you can enjoy "best of both worlds". If I didn't have the young kids I would enjoy both the same. So take this into account too.

Now I'm really cheap and bought into SSR/OKW for the incentives and cheap resale cost, lower MF and take my chances with the 7 month window. But after staying here at BCV and economy helping to have much more BCV contracts on resale then when we bought in..............I would probably go BCV today. If I add on anything else I probably will try BCV if I don't have to pay too much of a premium.

I looked and looked last night - and I am really leaning towards BCV. We live in Colorado- so all mountains- no beach. I am a beach person !! I do have two children 10,and 5 and they will love that pool. Normally when we go to WDW we go at the theme parks until we drop - I am hoping a close resort and a nice pool will slow us down a little bit.
I looked at OKW and AKV - but since I know I would not be happy staying at those- I am going to only buy at BCV. When at WDW last August we stayed on Deluxe dining and went to every resort there was (except poly) - we loved the Cape May Buffet Breakfast.

Thank you all for answering my first set of questions - here comes a couple more. (I warned you).
So here is the story - I have inherited some money ( not millions but a decent amount)- so I will be paying in full for my DVC - no financing needed. This is the only way I would want to do this.
My question is - it will probably be about two to three weeks until I recieve the inheritance. We already have a 12 day trip planned for June 16th staying at the CBR. I would have loved to bought into DVC prior to paying about 1800 to stay for this trip. But now with looking at the closing time, I don't feel like I could get this done and even find a DVC property to stay at with that kind of notice. I am correct in my thinking here right?
So now knowing that I will most likely not be able to use DVC for this trip - should I wait a little longer into 2009 to purchase- hoping that closer to mid year I can find a deal where someone has banked their 2009 points forward to 2010 ?
And one more little off topic question that has been burning on my mind. At the BCV's - where is the refillable pop station located? I have to have my diet coke !!!

You can refill at Hurricane Hanna's near the pool and inside the resort at the marketplace.
Again, i'm not big on math, so i'll let the others answer the purchase part to your question.
Enjoy your new membership! We own at SSR and AKV, but always try to get to BCV instead. :rolleyes1

WOW - Two refill stations - I am SOLD now !!!
Thanks

So I just got off the phone with Gib at DVC - he says he has 160 points avaiable for me now !! So DVC direct is charging 106 a point - resale I figure I can get between 89-98 for what I am looking for. From Dvc that gives me 16,900. Through resale I would be looking at around 14,500 plus closing costs. Roughly a 2000 difference. But the deciding factor for me is that if I go through DVC direct I can own my DVC with in days to weeks - and they will make my reservation for me today for my June trip. And I am paying 2200 to stay at CBR - thus making the savings a wash. And I would be staying at BCV in June instead of CBR !!! I am jumping up and down right now !! Please someone stop me if there is something I am not thinking of !!

Sounds great, what is the Use Year? Reason asking is I just added on another 50 points (with an April UY) at the Beach Club and also was able to get 08 points as well! You can get lucky when purchasing a add on or contract sometimes when you buy right before the end of the use year you are buying (i.e. buy in March for an April UY). I have done it a couple times now.

One thing to be careful about is availability at the Beach Club, I would keep your current reservation until you are in the system and can get the trip booked at the Beach Club.

Make the UY will work for you and they will usally throw the year before pts in and member services will allow you to bank them regardless if past the window or not. This is a bonus as you don't have to pay the maint fees. I hope this makes sense, I'm typing fast as I'm on my way out.

The use year is actually Feb 09' - so I would be buying points that just became avaiable for this year, then to make my reservation of 208 needed I would need to borrow from my 2010 allotment. Gib called and they do have availablity at BCV for my dates and he but it on a hold for me to call him back.
Maybe I should ask if he has anything with banked points for last year - I really like the Feb turnover though. Will ask - calling now !!!

 I BOUGHT IT !!! I BOUGHT IT !!!!!

Okay so as it turns out I ended up buying the original discussed points. Gib said the Beach Club has a very limited capacity making these points harder to come buy. ( I hope that is true.) The 160 that he sold me had a Feb 09 use year. He said very rarely does he not have a wait list for BCV and never a contract with banked points.
He did offer me a contract with banked 08 points for SSR - but I said umm no thanks !!
Then today I get online - I see the new incentive and see that I could have bought into BLT for 98 dollars, and I paid 106 for BCV - plus with BCV I will pay higher dues. For a moment I almost lost my mind. Then - ( and I do NOT mean to offend anyone) I looked at the big huge steel structure and I was calm again about my purchase. I loved the smaller simpiler feel of BCV and the pool- awesome. Plus the boat will get me two places !
I am so excited for our June trip - the reservations are made, my bags are packed - (well not really !)
I have a couple weeks to review the contract that is in the mail to me now - and then all I have to do is lay down a huge chuck o'change and I am done!

Thanks to everyone for all there help in helping me make this decision a reality !!

I was offered that same exact contract last week while I was there. Those guides are so full of stuff!

Congrats.... you needed to buy where you wanted to stay. Me I plan on paying less per point and maintenance and stay at BCV too! That big steel mess is going to keep me coming back for years!!! And while I won't mind staying there, I needed to be able to book a one bedroom that could hold five and that is the main reason we bought there. But our heart is with BCV!

Congrats, I know how very hard it is to make that decision. We almost bought those 160, Feb 09 points that day. But I just couldn't bring myself to do it!! Glad I didn't because now you have em!! Enjoy your trip in June! We were just visting the BCV and the pool is amazing!!
