Hi Team--
I ran a 5k today (double those miles, WOO HOO!)
It was definitely a last minute thing. I saw the blurb in the paper last night, and it was literally around the corner from my house, so I just HAD to do it, right?
Just as I was leaving for the race, my 9 year old son decided to run it with me. I was so incredibly proud of him. He is an athlete, sure, but he has never tried running just for the sake of running. He had on regular old beat-up sneakers (cause who buys their kids expensive running shoes?)...and get this,
he WON the kids' race! He is hurting now, though. Took a lot out of him. But he is super proud of himself. He did the whole 5k in 36 minutes. That is slightly better than 12 minute miles. And his legs are only half as long as an adult's!
I did fairly well also. I came in
second place for the women and 5th place overall.
Don't get excited...it sounds way better than it is! Today is the largest, most popular race in the entire state (our own PrincessRunner is there now!), so all of the "real" runners do that race! So, there were just slow pokes like me out there who didn't want to be humiliated at the "big" race.
Still, as the WISH motto states, I had the courage to start and I finished and that is really the victory here.
After the race, I had to go straight to my tennis match. So...here are my totals for the day:
6.2 miles
2 hours (30-minutes for the race an a 90-minute tennis match)
