Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

for several of the dates that i'd be interested in staying at the swan / dolphin, room rates have been over $1,000, which is absolutely bananas for 2 queens. I keep watching in the sincere hope that things become a bit more affordable.
Yeah, sometimes those aren’t even bookable. Odds are there is a convention. If Swolphin’s convention policies are the same as Disney’s you might start to see movement 30 days out as unsold rooms get released.

I’ve been scrolling a bit but can’t pinpoint the exact answer. Have a conference in mid-November and want to stay in a renovated room (preferably in Swan but could do the other two as well). Which rooms should be renovated by then?
I texted them a couple of weeks ago to ask if renovations would be complete by December. They said they were not finished yet and didn't give me a date when they would be.

I'm looking at the current discounts listed for S&D and see one for teachers and support staff. Are there any stipulations around this? I work at a university in Canada and provide student support (and sometimes teach). I've only ever used an education/teacher code when asked if I was one in a mall during back-to-school shopping (and this worked for that).

I don't want to take a discount I won't end up getting and feel silly for misunderstanding.

TIA!

I think you need an ID that shows you work in that capacity, pretty much anywhere.

FWIW, I’ve always priced out the teacher discount and have never found it to save me more than a few bucks off rack rate. Typically I find much better deals on Priceline or Hotwire.

We use this every time we stay and have found some really good deals using it. We've only ever had to show proof of employment, so ID badge from your university should work!

We just checked out of the Swan this morning. We have stayed there many times but perhaps not during hot months when we are swimming and dodging rain? Or maybe the renovation is what made the change in room function?

We were in a renovated double queen room with no balcony. It must have been a light reno because the doors and walls are still showing a lot of wear. But the real headache was the lack of hooks. I know that sounds ridiculous but hear me out. 3 people, no balcony, swimming multiple times a day, also getting caught in TORRENTIAL rain and needing to dry ponchos, clothing, etc. in addition to 3 towels from the shower.

There is One. Single. Hook.

Not a bar to be seen. Nothing on the shower door, or a rod inside the shower. No clothesline to pull out like in Disney hotels. Very little counter space so I couldn't even lay things flat on that.

I had things hanging from the door to the safe, hangers in the closest (things were dripping all over the shelves - augh!), the ironing board, the makeup mirror, anywhere I could find something that wasn't over wood laminate flooring. You could hardly maneuver in the bathroom without knocking something on the floor  It was quite comical but really frustrating.

Like I said, I don't recall this being an issue in the past so either we have only stayed during cooler/dryer months and it was a non-issue to pile all 3 towels on 1 single hook OR they removed them all in the reno. I'm honestly not sure I'll book there again, at least during hot season.

The rest of the stay was great. Pools were nice, food was okay, texting was a great form of communication, no waiting on elevators, plenty of seats at both pools, etc.

Would you recommend we pack an over-the-door set of hooks? Or suction hooks? I guess if we get drenched from a downpour I’ll take the stuff to the laundry. I just don’t want to have to do laundry daily.🤨

I mean you could, but if you prep for rain as you should this is a non issue tbqh. I go during this time of year frequently. Just don’t go outside without rain gear 😂. For years and years I’ve had a Columbia rain jacket that folds down into its own pocket and takes up virtually no space in my park bag. That and a travel size UV umbrella is all I need to survive even the most torrential hurricane season downpours. In all the years I’ve been going around Labor Day I have never had to do laundry or dry clothes out from rain. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The towel and swimsuit situation is more of an actual problem to me with multiple people in the room. I suppose you could bring over the door hooks for that.

Hi. As mentioned, we obviously brought stuff for rain. We live in FL near the coast so are pretty educated on life with rain and hurricanes but occasionally, you get wet - even with a poncho.

The bands of Debby were so intense that even with a rain cover on the stroller, rain jackets on both of us, umbrella, and quick dry clothing, the rain was so sideways and intense that I literally rung my underwear out when we got back to the room. My umbrella was worthless in the wind and dangerous to use. My dadgum contacts were getting knocked out of place due to the drive of the rain. Not sure what else someone could do.

Hurricane bands aren't the norm but it happens, and frankly some of our afternoon storms can be wicked windy and rainy, so it's something to keep in mind when planning a stay someplace with no hooks or space to dry your clothing. Just trying to be helpful.

I'd go with suction hooks if anything. Over the door hooks can and will cause damage to the doors and the frame.

The obvious solution to this one is drop them in a pile on the floor and let housekeeping replace with fresh ones. Even if you don’t want housekeeping you can call for towel removal and fresh towels.

Umm… hanging 3 used, identical shower towels from 3 different people on 1 hook? Hard. Pass.

This is my husband’s biggest gripe with most hotels. There’s signs everywhere to “make a green choice” and reuse the towels. But how can we do that when we can’t get them to dry? A family or 4 with one hook is impossible.
Whenever we stay in the Disney owned properties, the abundance of hooks is one of the things I point out to him so that I can justify spending the money 🤣

That's what we did with our towels and I felt so guilty 🙈 I texted several times for towel removal...

I was able to add a couple of days to an upcoming trip so I now have a split stay of two reservations at the same resort. I am thinking of cancelling the extra two day reservation and replace it with two days at the Dolphin. One down side is that check in is stated as being 4pm. Is it typically, actually that late? I stay at Marriotts and I almost always can get in significantly earlier than the stated check in time. However, those places aren't the Dolphin.

Check in varies. I wouldn’t count on getting in early.

Hi! I asked before about buying milk alternatives in the hotel - do they also sell fruit - bananas, apples, etc)? (My kids will be awake and demanding food at about 5am due to the time difference on the first day, and we can bring cereal with us from the UK but not fruit. Planning to get more groceries when there so just need enough for a couple of days, but there's not many services you can use from the UK in advance from the looks of it, and the prices at Garden Grocer are eyewatering!
