Walt Disney World is in a Deep Freeze

Let me just say... I love Frozen. I think it's an excellent film with incredible music and an amazing cast. My family and I had SO much fun at the Frozen Summer events at Hollywood Studios last month, and my DD7 has dolls, costumes, pens, you name it...from the movie.

However...

Am I the only one who feels like Frozen is now being completely shoved down my throat? Frozen Summer has now been extended, Maelsrom is being re-themed to a Frozen attraction with a meet & greet in the Norway pavilion, there's already a meet & greet in the Magic Kingdom, not to mention Frozen has been added to almost every parade and fireworks show. Now there's talk of Elsa using her magic to 'transform' Cinderella Castle at night during the winter months. Personally, I feel like Disney waited FAR too long to bring them into the parks after the movie was released, and now that they're here..it's like Frozen overload.

Yes, the movie is a huge success and I expect Disney to take advantage of that. It seems like at first there was nothing and now I'm drowning in it. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Totally agree! I really enjoyed Frozen and would expect them to capitalize on its success but like you I just feel like it's too much? Can't put my finger on it exactly as I almost sound like I'm contradicting myself but there you go?:surfweb:

I think where some of the backlash is coming from is rather than trying to fit Frozen in, in its own space, TPTB are taking away nostalgic favorites and replacing them with Frozen ... replacing Sleeping Beauty in the M&G, replacing Maelstrom, taking the seasonal castle lighting away from Mickey & the gang and Cinderella (whose castle it is in the first place) and replacing it with an all Frozen show.

Note: I do wish that Rapunzel had a little more than a pretty bathroom. I would have loved it if they had built a Snuggly Duckling qs place back there. The dh and I love the Duckling and the ceramic unicorns!

My initial answer to the question the OP asked was YES! I think there's too much Frozen in the parks and it really bothered me at HS last month. But then I saw hollygolitely93's list of the amount of Little Mermaid and BaTB presence in the parks (and resorts), both movies/characters I love, and I thought "hmm, I guess really Frozen doesn't have TOO much....." So I think what bothers me is that there isn't as much Tangled and Brave representation around, and I personally thought those 2 movies were tons better than Frozen. I realize those movies didn't make as much $$ as Frozen, but I think maybe that's why it irks me so much.
Just my opinion :)

I agree :thumbsup2

I agree Ariane37.

I thought Frozen was okay the first time I watched it; the second time I watched it, I LOVED it. My niece and nephew loved the movie too, so between everyone, there's been a lot of Frozen fun through time together, fun gifts, etc.

When I initially saw the Frozen summer fun, I was ecstatic!!!

But then when I saw the finished product online, not as much.

I did get to enjoy it this summer and I ended up loving the fireworks, watching the ice show, and using the magical app.

That being said, it now feels like too much Frozen and I think part of the reason I feel this way is because other favorites have earned their place over time, for example, Rapunzel right now only has a bathroom, no ride.

Ariel and Belle have a large presence but they also have earned that presence. I would love for Aladdin, Rapunzel, Wall-E, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, etc. to have a larger presence as well before Frozen continues to get so much love. And then I further think I feel that way because I get scared Epcot will change too dramatically over time and I love the World Showcase just the way it is.

I actually expected Frozen to be a lot more prevalent than it was. I mean, it is the highest grossing animated film OF ALL TIME! #1 movie Japan for 11 straight weeks!

For a film like that, you don't just open a little meet and greet in the Tangled/Brave circle for one summer.

Granted, the ice skating could have been done better. Paying to rent the skates? Haven't we paid enough?

Being from Minnesota, I couldn't help it being amused at how foreign ice skating seemed to everyone.

Disney simply can't win with everyone - don't change, they are stagnant and boring ; change and you take away nostalgic favorites. They have to move forward and evolve and Malestrom is a great one to update. It simply is not a favorite for the masses and adding Frozen makes much sense

Frozen pavilion is two years away (2016) And the way Disney is acting about construction these days it could be longer. :confused3

The WS addition or subtraction (they are not adding a ride just taking away another one) bothers me because it doesn't belong in WS. But the other additions of Frozen I can live with. Frozen is a money maker so Disney is going to take advantage of it.

Well if you're from the South, the only chance you have at ice skating is inside your local mall. Actually here in Houston we have two big malls with ice rinks and during the holidays they build an outdoor rink downtown. Nothing like ice skating in 75 degree temperatures in December. :)

I just love threads that start with "you people". :rolleyes1 You're working overtime to make friends and influence people.

I don't really have strong feelings about Norway being taken over by Frozen. I don't have the strong feelings about Epcot that many here do. But I do have very strong feelings about the fact that the mouse never seems to be able to give without taking away. Would it kill them to put it somewhere that results in it being a NET NEW ATTRACTION?

This!:thumbsup2

But don't forget they did give us the deluxe "Tangled" bathroom area without taking anything away

You are missing so many points though. most people wouldn't mind change, it is replacing things that is the issue.
Walt once said about the Florida project that they had all the room they ever needed to hold anything they could imagine. It seems like all they can imagine though is dvcs, because those are the only true expansions we are getting.

I think most people would agree malestrom needed an update, but don't kid yourself, this isn't an update, it is a replacement. a replacement that completely destroys the theming disney was once so well known for.

frozen should be built, but not replacing Norway. I'll make the same argument when they announce what they will probably do with star wars, close stuff down to shoehorn it in somewhere. the right way to do both of those projects is to EXPAND the parks, outside their current boundaries.
But that will never happen, it is a sad state.

Well, technically, they took away the Fantasyland Skyway station. But since it's been closed for decades and only used for stroller parking, we can give them a pass on that one. :lmao:

We live about 3 hours from Disney, so we get to go two or sometimes three times a year for short trips. We just went to MNSSHP on Friday, and then went to Hollywood Studios and Epcot yesterday (last time we were here was in January). I have to say that everyone in my family (including my children who love Frozen) thought that it was WAY overdone in HS. The banners all over the place, the dance party by the Sorcerer's Hat, the make-shift gift shop next to Toy Story--all just too much (and that's not even all of it). It was as we were at Frozen Studios and not Hollywood Studios. Then, we went to go get on our very favorite ride, the Great Movie Ride, and it was closed early due to the preparations needed for the special Frozen fireworks. I thought all of the branding everywhere totally ruined the vibe of the park, and HS is one of our favorite places. At least we got to ride Maelstrom for one last time in Epcot before it is changed forever. I hope Disney does not ruin the feel of Norway with the addition of the new attraction. Really, we love Frozen, but I don't think that Disney needs to go overboard like this. I feel sorry for the people from all over the world who have come to Disney for their first (and for many once in a lifetime) visit and had to experience HS with all of the Frozen hoopla because they weren't able to see the park as it is really meant to be seen. The banners are just tacky and the Frozen (literally freezing inside) gift shop was very poorly done and did not live up to Disney standards. I realize that this is only temporary (hopefully), but perhaps HS should have done a Frozen hard ticket event like MNSSHP instead of this "festival" type feeling event. Anyway, just our family's view. Will also be glad when the walls are all down on Main Street in the MK!
